  1. Oh that Bob Moore. Thanks, and may he Rest In Peace. On another note, I hope our sponsor LFS owners see this Paletta article. What struck me is how hard it is for them to stay afloat and the deep passion that must drive them to keep going despite long hours and low margins. Much appreciated LFS owners!! Best of luck and all my support.
  2. Thanks for the update, and sorry for your losses. That's a bummer, but sounds like it could have been a lot worse.
  3. I just watched Laura Simmons talk from MACNA 2016 on YouTube. Though she seemed a bit nervous (public speaking is hard!), she is an excellent source of timely info. Would be great to see her live.
  4. Higher Thinking is on point. Must aerate! Here are a couple of resources I found online. Pretty much same ideas as stated. The BRS article links to some potentially helpful products for future ref: http://successfulreefkeeping.com/learn/reef-tank-101/surviving-a-power-outage/ http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/power-outage
  5. This is a great thread. Appreciate the sprinkling of humor along with technical details and description of methods. It would be great if you turned this into a talk for the club, maybe a demo so we can get some hands on experience. Thanks pdxmonkeyboy! Please keep it coming. Sincerely, Nick
  6. [language filter]! Ouch! Maybe rub some saltwater in it to disinfect. Sorry -- bad joke. Be careful out there!
  7. I stress out when people fill in my excavations, too! Not enough to die, but still.
  8. I imagine many trees will topple in this wind. Watch out for big branches ("widow-makers"), too. If anyone needs emergency help with tanks in Portland area, I'm available.
  9. As soon as I heard about power outage I got worried about all of you. Anyone running generator yet?
  10. Yes, Syun is the best. Other than renowned sushi, I love their pickled ginger salmon. And they're located in the old library building my dad used to go to when he was a kid. It's been awhile -- I need to get out here again. Congrats Mr. Bret on the new store. Much success!!
  11. Sweet crab!! Does it carry pom pom anemones?
  12. So bummed I missed Fenner! He's a hero of mine. I'd be interested in hearing Caitlin Lee of Quality Marine. Industry media creative, captive breeding and sustainability knowledge and experience, based on the west coast. I won't be going to MACNA, but if I did I'd make it a point not to miss her. http://macnaconference.org/2017/speakers/caitlin-lee/ Here's a link to one of her online projects: http://www.reefmusings.com/
  13. I second this idea, FWIW. I think a display reef indirectly connected to a display FOWLR via refugium is an interesting concept. FOWLR section on forums would be appreciated.
  14. I see what you mean, @Blue Z Reef. They could really use a more robust website with sample test results and guidance (if any) offered. I've been looking into Triton and from what I can tell, they offer the complete service, though customers are free to choose other brands of supplements if they do desire. However, this Colorado-based outfit, ICP-Analysis, does have a great price point. Someone's got to try it and report back here! Maybe the club could pursue this on a TFT tank? Just a thought.
  15. Thanks @albertareef. I've been meaning to get over there. Appreciate the info!
  16. [language filter]! Is it broken? I did a search and it appears EcoTech did a great job helping this other guy out with his dry side issue. It's an old thread, but maybe they will step up for you, too. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2049436
  17. OMG!!! Wow!!! Ned clearly rocks. Great pics -- really inspiring -- thanks!
  18. That would be great. Would late Friday afternoon work for you? I'll PM my contact info.
  19. So good to hear that! I don't know Sirena, but hopefully get to see some pics/vids at some point.
  20. That is such a cool fish! Any more pics now that Ned is settling in?
  21. Sorry for your losses @bamburgb. That really sucks! I read an article on stability of parameters. It had some interesting info, focusing on source water but also addressing some other issues. You probably know these things already but I thought it might in some small way be helpful.
