Higher Thinking

As previously mentioned, our next meeting will be an organized beach cleanup event. This is a huge state wide event that will be taking part all along the coast. As such we need to decide where to host the meeting since so many people live in different areas. I have set the poll up to allow for multiple votes, so please select 2 or 3 locations where you are willing to meet. If there are a couple favorites, we may just split up the event to these different locations. The cities are approximate for the actual areas because the cleanup locations aren't exactly based on a city.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. While I'd love to take the credit for organizing this, the front runners were definitely Kevin and John Manrow. Organizing events is a group collaboration that your leaders work hard to perfect, but at the end of the day, you folks are the ones making it happen by showing up. It was a good turn out and a great time!

Your after-meeting photo play by plays are my favorite thing to look forward to after each meeting. Thanks for detailing the events. Great shots!

Kind of a poor picture because the clam was tipped sideways, but you can get the idea. The tears that were there a bit ago have all healed up.

Thanks guys, that looks pretty spot on. Time for some aggressive measures. Tang? What tang? I never got one. I was just asking if one would. I decided to just attack it head on to the best of my ability. It had affixed itself to both pumps so I pulled those and gave them a thorough scraping. That picture I posted earlier was actually on a little acan colony. I pulled that and cut it in half (lost some heads) to salvage the non invested portion. Next I covered two patches of the stuff on my rocks with putty. Hopefully this will kill off what is on the rocks. I'm hoping this will stop further development, but I'm sure there are some little stragglers that will take hold. I'm just going to putty them as they appear. Eventually I'll just pull the putty off.

What do you folks think it is? The more important question, what would eat it? Lawn mower blenny, kole tang? It used to just grow in one spot, but slowly it has migrated to about 5 patches now. I gotta get this under control before it grows to much.

I have blue ones growing all over my clam. You're more than welcome to have them if you wanted. I'd have to figure out how to best get them off.

It's that time again! It's February and love is in the air. Show us a great pair for this Valentine's month. Maybe a couple clowns, goby and shrimp, or any other set that you might have. Last of all, if you don't have a pair, show us something that YOU absolutely love!! And because I failed to start voting, we'll also be combining this into March's POTM. We aren't doing membership cards anymore. They have failed to accomplish anything because sponsors haven't required them to receive any discounts offered to members. As for people taking your place, while it is thoughtful, I don't think that'll be a very legitimate way of dealing with the Portland Aquarium. We have set up this deal based on the honor system and I don't want to be put in a place of being dishonest or taking advantage of the system.

Yeah, not a bad price at all if everything works like it's supposed to. This is definitely worth checking into if you got the pumps.
