  1. i use vitamin c (kent) for my angel fish with HLLE, and i also use the elos pro skimmer. the vitamin c is mixed with nori, and only given to the angel
  2. a trap would do the trick
  3. So i picked up a flame angel from garret the other day, he ended up getting swim bladder disease and he died pretty quick(sad). Lucky for me i had him in my 50 gallon quarantine system and not the display. his tank mates were a koran angel fish and some damsels. the next day following the death of the angel i looked in on the system, and i saw that my koran angel(juvenile) and a damsel were ich-ed up. my guess is that the fish were stressed because of the water quality and ammonia spike from the dead fish, or anything like that. so i took them over to a ten gallon hospital tank. that is where they are now They are small fish keep in mind, the angel is 4" and the damsel is 1" so they are happy enough in a 10 gallon tank for the time being. i mixed up a brand new batch of saltwater at 1.025 salinity. i set up a hang on back filter and a heater as well as a light. So that is where they were last night. i would normally just let them chill out and not medicate (my thinking is that the ich came from stress, and stress came from bad water) but my angel looked like a tasseled file fish (scary), and i thought it was high time to medicate. i chose to medicate with quick cure, which is a formula of melanchite green and formalin. i chose this for three reasons: 1) i had it handy, and it was 8pm at night, so if i wanted to use copper i could not treat until the morning, and then it might be too late 2) it was recommended to me by Dr. Bennet, who works at hollywood aquarium, and i trust his opinion and experience 3) it is less harsh on the fish in the long term (so i heard) and easier to remove from water etc. so i medicated according to back last night, 1 drop per gallon. and it worked pretty good. my fish seem to be breathing more naturally and they have WAY less ich spots on them. it still is not gone and i plan on water changing once more today and doing the same thing tonight. i will post pictures and keep you up dated on how this works. i am feeding with (and they are eating)spectrum pellets, i first tried feeding with garlic soaked nori (the koran's favorite) but he ignored it. the tank temp last night was 73, but i have been slowly increasing temp all day, as suggested by Dr. Bennet. current temp is 76 wish me luck!
  4. That is also the coolest blue liverock i have ever seen... how much is that per pound? or does that come free with the super-saturated chalice(laugh)
  5. i couldnt also get a frag of nuclear green could i? or is there only one? pm me if available.
  6. i was going to ask the same question! and btw, GREAT tank. Nothing to be ashamed of! what size is it? do you have trouble with tang aggression? did you add them all at once?
  7. i wish i had that problem!! this tank.... wow, that is all i can say. this is amazing, and i think just about everyone here agrees. good work!
  8. build a little black acrylic box. and drill some holes in it, pretty cheap and easy, plus it wont stand out. another idea that might work would be to attach some to a power head. i did this with caleurpa and it works like a charm. the power head can be on or off, and it just looks like a plant mass in the top of you tank, and it wont spread to the bottom.

    External pump?

here is my best attempt to explain a concept i have a poor understanding of Cavitation has to do with the angle of joins in a high pressure area and gas bubbles. the end result is extra strain on the impeller, or other internal components of the pump. the reason it is likely to happen in this circumstance is because if you T off from the existing bulkhead it will have increased pressure (double the flow, and no change in diameter), and more bends.
  10. i am sorry about that. i myself looked in my QT system to see my new flame angel floating upside down. its a bummer. when i have a sick fish i usually give hollywood aquarium a call. besides the fact that the man has a doctorate in ichthyology, he also has about 40 years of experience with marine life. good luck!
  11. the t-5's are better. more energy efficient, cheaper to buy, and less heat issues come from them.
  12. will you consider trades for other poorly managed nuclear facilities?
  13. it is possible that the zoos were getting benefit from the extra particles and goodies floating through the system. the skimmer would have taken those out. do you spot feed at all? that might make them more happy
  14. preferably yes, but i think i could sell the cats separately. i have two, 1 euphora and 1 upside down
  15. Hi i have a tank i am selling i am selling the tank separately so i need to get my live stock out by friday i have about 18 african cichlids. there are all peacock from lake malawi. they are about a year old and they are 2"+ i have yellow labs benchye malawi eye biters red fins crimson tides nimbochromis mloto licoma and some featherfin cats and a pleco. 75 buck for all of them and chemicals (about four tubs of cichlid salt and buffer) MAKE OFFERS I WANT THEM GONE
  16. if a quake happens, i think my aquarium will be the least of my worries.... but yes i think my tank would hold
  17. i check nitrates, when they get to an unfavorable level, or they start to rise, i change about twenty percent in my big tank, which is 130. and my biocube is so filled with live rock, that it seems like of i do a 5 gallon water change it is like 30% lol. my biocube is very densly packed so i do it more frequently with that one and it is so easy ti do a big water change that has good effect if all it takes is a five gallon bucket!
  18. hahaha, respect. i had the same issue/proposition to my parents. they also went along with it. is it dry wall that you are going through? i just used a drywall saw, the stuff is pretty easy to cut. just make sure you know EXACTLY where you want the whole. i didn't...LOL i now have two sets.... i told my dad i would patch up the hole before i went to college lol.
  19. haha, i didnt even think about that, but it does make sense. i bet it is easy to tell who does regular changes and who doesnt by the amount of gunk and cleanliness of their tanks... lol. or even of you ask to see it?
  20. you can also buy the back up power batteries for computers, which go on automatically. it might be worth keeping on two small watt things, like a heater and the return pump
  21. http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4430+4443&pcatid=4443 i dont personally have one of these, but i know that hollywood aquarium uses these for their tanks, and they only visit once every two weeks. they are good because you can put in exactly what you want in the tank and you also have 14 meals. as for pellets i recommend the spectrum pellet, i use them on a regular basis, and i have had very good success (not that i have much to brag about). almost every fish i own eats them with joy, including my christmas wrasse and flame angel fish Good luck!
  22. or since you would already be paying 1$/gallon, why dont you just buy the premixed stuff?
