  1. i think people are being a little too dramatic about the skimmer. skimming is shown to decrease nitrates, yes very true. at the same time, i have talked to people (and wasn't there also a post a few weeks ago?), who dont use a skimmer and do monthly water changes with great success. so dont think you are going to kill every thing as soon as it is offline, it isnt the end of the world. do some water tests, if you constantly see nitrates being an issue and going off the charts, then maybe you should put it back in... and as far as weening it off the system, i dont think it would need to be weened...
  2. okay, so never posted any pics, that is because there was nothing to take a pic of (bare ten gallon tank, nothing other than two fish)! the fish were up to par after about three days of treatment, and i would say that this was a success. i certainly would suggest this treatment to other people! and mick- i agree with the hypo salinity, however it does stress the fish, and that didn't seem to be a good option for this circumstance. i think that i am going to donate this fish to someone with a fowler, i really dont think i have been caring for it properly by keeping it in my qt system, it deserves a better set up. i think i will just hand it off to jeff, owner of the aquarium in oc.

    Nano PH?

how are you filtering it? if you have any sort of hang on back or pump in there for filtration, i bet you are okay as it is

you can always try a hofman gurglebuster...
  7. well you are doing something right if you are keeping that fish successfully. nice job. and that rock is infested with kenya tree coral! a lot of people think it is bad, but i have always liked it.
  8. nice looking tank, how long have you had the powder blue?
  9. i will take the anthias and possibly shrimp

  11. this is a long shot, but when it comes to not knowing what is going on with a fish, if you can isolate it, it is the best. if you have an extra ten or twenty gallon tank, and you can catch him, and just let him hangout in the tank for a week or two, that would be good. then you will know for sure if the problem is internal or external.
  12. do you do water changes often? this is a shot in the dark but it could be trace elements... or parasites? if the fish is getting thin and it still eats as usual, it could be worms etc. hlle looks chunks of flesh missing, usually caused by stray voltage and stress. the only way to fix that is to let it heal over time. vitamin c helps too. post a pic!
  13. in that case, home depot sells led fixtures, they are high wattage, and they are waterproof, they are about 300 watts (keep in mind that watts is not the measurement of light output, lumens is) so that might work well and you would never replace a light bulb ever again, and you would never have to . they run for about 60 bucks
  14. i can pick it up and bring it to the meeting tomorrow possibly
  15. oh yeah, those tanks looked nice. one thing to think about would be to get one of those coralife twist bulbs, and a home depot outdoor approved fixture, and then use it like a pendant. there are a lot of options for retrofitting that would be pretty cheap.
  16. if you factor in the acrylic, it is probably a seven gallon tank. what type of tank is it? is it an all in one? then i bet the provided powerhead would be plenty
  17. i really protest to that sort of irresponsibility on the part of a fish shop, that is bad for the poor creature, and bad for the customer who loses his money, and critter...
  18. they also do not like strong lighting
  19. check BRS under misc
  20. here are some places to call: rose city (nick) Ocean in a box (robert and cos) upscales (travis) west side (tim) might be worth seeing who could get you the best deal, and what equipment they could throw in
