  1. Holy visual overload batman! (drooler)
  2. John, that is looking really good man! Stand looks awesome and your sump looks really clean.
  3. Okay, so yeah if you are running a skimmer than really you should only need to run carbon if you need to polish the water if it looks like it needs it. I checked the powerhead and it is a 160gph. I'll bring it with me to the meet! I'm glad someone can use it.
  4. Dang I should of read this before I bought an evo today. I got a 750...spendy little suckers.
  5. How the heck would they really know they were dead before they hit the ground! If they frooze in mid air that would kill them...then they defrost on the way down (still dead mind you) and then splat on the ground, making everyone think they died from blunt force. lol That would have to be one hell of a firework to kill that many birds. If you find out let me know cuz I would love to have something like that to shoot off next year! lol
  6. Blunt force trama...maybe from hitting the ground? lol Thats what I was thinking when I read it this morning. Maybe they got spooked and ended up flying down instead of up. I dunno, I doubt it was fireworks though, I mean wouldnt this happen every new year and 4th? Maybe the flew into a real bad storm that had alot of cold air and they frooze and fell? weird.
  7. Jeez thats pretty good! I'm more into the instant gratification thing so I dont order too many things online...lol Edit: BTW nice Christmas lights man! lol I'm always the last in my hood to take them down on the outside of the house.
  8. Hi Kim, I myself wouldnt use the bio wheel or any other mechinical type bio filtration. Live rock and your sand is going to do that job. I myself prefer a sand bed in my tank than a bare bottom tank, but if you do a remote DSB in your sump then you should be okay, it will do the same thing. My last tank had a DSB in the display but this time I plan on only doing a thin bed in my tank and doing a DSB remotely. (i've been reading that thats the way to go these days, I am still researching it myself, pro's vs con's) If you run carbon thru your filter you should really only do so for a few days to a week and then take it out unless there are reasons why you are running it that I dont know about. You should be able to use the canister w/o running carbon or the biowheel (most canister filters will allow you too, although I admit I dont know what model you are using). Do you have a skimmer? I couldnt really tell from your post or maybe I am just to tired today..lol Anyways the reason I was searching for your thread was to let you know that if you still have a need for more water movement that I can give you a powerhead to use. I bought it in a pinch thinking that I could use it but it didnt really work out for me so I had to buy another. Its just a cheap petco model, I think its rated 160gph but its yours if you want it. I know how hard this hobby is to do with kids to budget around, i've got 4 of the little buggers myself. My only catch would be that it never gets sold, but you are free to give it away to anyone you want as long as its not for money. Anyways let me know. I can bring it to the meet at Kim and Beths or you or your hubby can come pick it up.
  9. WOW, thats just amazing!!! The kids are going to love it and I am sure you all will get some good karma from your kindness!
  10. Let me know how those T5 set-ups work out. I was going to recommend them to my brother...Dr's F&S have them pretty cheap.
  11. (laugh) I've never had a fish as a hitchhiker!
  12. Thats gonna be cool, cant wait to see a pic of the L set-up once you have it built.
  13. I'm getting thirsty just thinking about it!
  14. Thats okay I cant do any heavy lifting anyways! I'm still on meds from my last back injury and my Doc would kill me. He already gave me the stank eye when I told him I got a big tank. I lied and said I didnt help pick it up..lol
  15. This thread has some great links! The title should be a bit more discriptive though. Took me a couple months to notice it was here.

So I got rock in the barrels last night! problem is I couldnt fit it all in the two barrels I have lol. So now I am trying to figure out what to do with this left over 20%...Buy a rubermaid? Or I could just use the 75 that is going to be the sump and just cure it in there...problem with that is I can see myself taking it farther than just curing the rock! lol
  17. Man I would help Kim but I cant get free on the 15th.
  18. Wow that was really nice of him. I voted E. Why not let both charities get some love.
  19. Build threads are awesome! They are kinda like a diary of the progression of your tank (when done right). They give all members, new and old, the ability to see what everyone else is doing, the good and the bad. (laugh)
  20. I think a 45 would be fine. My last tank had 2 45's coming out of the sump room and about 10ft of pipe and I didnt notice that much of a drop. My own personal prefference is to use hard pipe on my return and the flex for the drain. But thats just me.
  21. Hey man thats looking really good!
  22. Welcome to the club! Now who has the skimate to donate for initiation!? (plotting)
