  1. OK guys and gals, we bought two of these pico aquariums - one for Gillian and one for me - and it turns out that 6 tanks is one tank too many! Tragedy, I know. So this one for sale. 3.5 gallon all-in-one pico made by PicO Aquariums - the very best quality all-glass all-in-one picos on the market. Display is 6" x 12" (2.3g) Sump is 3" x 12" (1.2g) 3 chambers in the back, including a little media basket. Here is the link for the guy who makes them: Barracuda Glass "Premium" Here's a stock pic: I can send a real pic if you want to see it. Includes Rio 400 return pump & 25W heater. These are $129 new + shipping. This one is barely used, yours for $90.
  2. Always love your stuff. Put me down for the green birdsnest and rufus. Merry Christmas to the Solana...!
  3. I was thinking he had changed the name to Totally Exotic, Delicious Corals of Oregon, but oh well. Jody's stuff is great. A++
  4. We use the 75 gpd 5 stage standard model from BRS, and now I'm going to order a chloramine filter...! good luck
  5. Shhhhhh I'm trying not to piss the gun people off. But yes, good point, I had thought exposure was measured by exposure to households having a gun or pool (not the best measure anyway), but he probably used some much more crude statistics. Glad to see that someone cares. Hey, who here likes pretty coral?
  6. I'm impressed with your post, Brad. You're a stand-up guy for posting it. It wasn't intimidating to me so much as just seeming strange. I was hoping to have some pseudo-academic discussion of road tax, but alas, this was not the right venue, and I clearly wasn't making my point very convincingly anyway. I'm not trying to tell anyone how to live their life. I just want people to live longer... it's my job... but it's NOT my job to MAKE people live longer. If you look at the attributable risk of mortality, swimming pools are more dangerous than guns (and no, I'm not saying to outlaw either of those). Where I grew up, they weren't used for shooting tin cans from 1k yards, they were used for killing people and threatening people. So when random pictures of guns come into what I was hoping to be a "debate" seems either a disappointment due to the irrelevance or an act of macho "don't **** with me & my opinion cause I got guns." Either way, it just made my eyes roll... Turns out it was just irrelevant. I guess I should have expected as much from an out-of-bounds thread!!! So no harm no foul... oh, the ducks finally scored. On that note, Duck Hunt was my favorite game on Nintendo as a kid. So I don't think you're a big scary man for having guns. I would just rather have a big group hug and the guns be left at home for when Canada invades.
  7. please save rainbow unicorn ninja a doughnut PS-does that fill your screen, brad? i can make it bigger
  8. For anyone who really is arguing this on ECONOMIC grounds, read this: http://www.grist.org/article/2010-09-27-why-an-additional-road-tax-for-bicyclists-would-be-unfair Peace out.
  9. I also think it's profoundly ignorant to believe that the proportion of people who bike or walk is completely unrelated to the obesity epidemic. Do you understand that sedentary lifestyle is associated with obesity? Do we need to go back to the basics here?
  10. I agree that bicyclists and pedestrians should be cautious and follow the law when crossing streets... If you want to tax bicyclists (pedestrians too, for that matter?) and specifically earmark that money for more bike lanes and sidewalks, I'm all for it. You just won't have any money left to enforce your licensing requirements. There's only so much $, and if you tax people too much, they just won't want to go out and ride their bike or go for a walk. Should they go out and make poor choices about j-walking, running red lights, weaving between cars, etc? Of course not, but you might also note that if a collision occurred under those circumstances, the bicyclist/pedestrian WOULD be at fault.
  11. Yeah, people act strangely sometimes, but at least we don't have to generalize about groups of people by race, gender, or chosen mode of transportation.
  12. I think you have missed the point, newfisher. What is the point of taxing bicyclists? I'm not saying ALL people who bike are "skinny" and those who don't are "obese." But policy decisions affect people, and they affect people's health by influencing their choices. Taxing people to making a healthier choice is just not a good idea in a time when the prevalence of obesity is increasing so rapidly.
  13. Oh wait, here's a better idea, let's all drive cars and contribute to the obesity epidemic. Any takers? Here is for natural selection and population control.
  14. I'm so glad that bicyclists put so little wear on the road so that we don't have to worry about it.
  15. Oh, so your post really wasn't about pedestrians, bicyclists or drivers at all.... you're just pissed cause some people are jerks and/or lack good judgment. Yeah. That much is true.
  16. Some pedestrians and bicyclists make poor decisions. Some drivers do, too. When it comes down to it, we should be promoting more walking and bicycling. Portland is one of the most walkable cities. We're lucky to live here. It's unfortunate that some people have attitude... but I don't think the rate of "unfriendly" pedestrians is any higher here; there are just more pedestrians to encounter. Bicyclists paying road tax is BS. How much wear do they put on the road? How are you gonna enforce whether or not someone has paid their bicycle tax? But really if we created more livable communities that were more conducive to safe pedestrian and bicyclist activity, we would be better off. I don't usually read Kim's off-topic posts because I never have the time and the large letters hurt my young eyes, but from a public health standpoint, I gotta represent........... peace out!
