The common 4 bulb 20k imitation setup is 2 ATI blue +, 1 KZ fiji purple, and 1 UVL super actinic.

The gasoline method is much more effective in my eyes...

In line with newfishers recommendation, I heard that if you dip the rock in muriatic acid it will remove the xenia. Also a 50/50 mix of gasoline and Dr bronners soap works as well. Cheers!

That midwest site rocks! I can get their intermediate kit shipped (2 carboys!) for 14 bucks more than VVB's deluxe kit that has 1 carboy! SWEET!

If it is leaching silicates you will get mega algae blooms and corals will not extend polyps or color up very well. Also non-calcium carbonate sand will NOT buffer your ph like it should, and you can get big ph swings which will stress out coral.

Did you get your kit from Valley Vintner Miles? I'm going there tomorrow to get my deluxe starter kit, and I'll probably buy a second Carboy as well.
