Try one of the grain bags from Valley Vintner. The one I used was a very wide mesh - but it held my grains quite well. Also did you put your hops in a bag as well? Makes straining them MUCH easier. Next batch I do will have a grain bag AND a hop bag, as well as straining the wort into the fermenter.
