  1. So, I came home from the meeting recently and was greeted by a Vortech blinking red and green. I looked in my tank and I saw that I was having a bloom of dinos. (flame) The bloom seems to coincide with a change in media that seems to have knocked out almost all of the cyano. I think I would trade cyano over dinos IMO. They are a PITA. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone uses the EcoSmart modes and what their experience with them is. I had been using reef crest (Yellow 1) but I am trying the others to get stuff stirred up and down into the sump.
  2. Those are MP10s? They look way bigger. I guess that must be the distortion from the water column.
  3. Yeah, you have the best skimmer for the BioCube IMO with the Tunze. Might I suggest you add an SL1 to your RKL if it isn't maxed out already. Then you can add a couple of float switches and a aqua lifter and you would be set.
  4. Supposedly this will not work. I think the thickest it will do is 3/8". I have checked on the EcoTech support on ReefCentral and they say it will work on a 10mm. So I think you will have to get yourself a MP40 if you go the Vortech route.
  5. What color is that sympodium? It is hard to make it out. Is it blue center with a green frill?
  6. The compact Eheims have an adjustable rate and are a very good pump but they are a definitely more expensive than a Rio. For a 25 gallon cube, you could try the one that goes up to 528 gph.
  7. Thanks for hosting the meeting. I wish I could have stayed longer! Maybe next year.
  8. I read about these disasters a lot and I am glad I don't have the problem. I have a small tank and I mounted my RO filter under the sink and have a drinking water valve on it. I put a five gallon bucket in the sink, turn the valve on it and wait for it to fill up. I never have any problems with overflow because it is in the sink and it has drainage built in. No bells and whistles as long as you plumb it correctly, and we get a good purified drinking water source as well. (wife)
  9. What do you mean by semi-cured? You should probably wait a little longer. But, I understand the desire to do it anyhow. (daz)
  10. I am about 80% on going to the meeting. See you there! Those would be the naturals and I can bring them to the meeting! I assume you are going.
  11. Well Chesty, I am not so sure. This thread is a few days old! I just caught it this morning after the morning bump.
  12. I do think we need clarification on the food thing, but frankly, that might be a trade secret for some and I feel like we should keep that to ourselves. It also seems that people are making plans to move the frag around or change their setups. The rules seem to say that that is a no-no. So, I guess it would be good to know what we can change and what we cannot change whatsoever. (nono) Should we just put it to a vote when people come to the group to make significant changes to their setups or does the fraggrowoutfuhrer decide? (threaten) Finally, I had some free time today, so, I started a tracking spreadsheet to see what everyone has. You can check it out on here and I will update it as we go along. If I got your info wrong or if you would like to offer more info than you initially offered, then feel free to PM me (best) the info or post it on here (okay). There is no obligation for anything aside from what the fraggrowoutfuhrer already asked for. I will add the start measurement as well. There are some things on the spreadsheet that were not asked for in the write-up, but that I think are important to know. Like salt and water change frequency and any media that you use. Some people offered it, some not so much. I just think these might be good to know.
  13. Nice goby in the background. We can cut our rulers? It would make it loads easier
  14. That is rough that you lost so many corals. My sympathies to you. I too am curious about the details of your move just to know what to expect from something like that with SPS corals.
  15. Well, we can call it an experiment as well. If those with upside down frags have poor growth, then I guess there will be something to gripe about. My frag was upside down as well. Personally, I have noticed that my frag is elongating a bit, the "head" is healing and there is a nub growing off of the side. So, looking at the other pictures, I don't think I have much to complain about. Besides, imagine the bragging rights if your frag ends up bigger with this supposed setback.
  16. Let's try this again. I got my official ruler now and though it was smashed the one end is still good. 13 mm.
  17. "Why don't you give me ape tit for $200." (Rim)
  18. I didn't know there even was an official ruler because I didn't get one. (sad) How can I get one? And yes my plug is upside down, which I noticed when I first got the frag. It should be interesting to see what it does.
  19. I am using a measuring ruler that has no reveal so I can set it right on the plug. As of today (April 24th) the frag measures roughly 12 mm. Equipment I am running a 30 gallon mixed reef tank. This tank went into action around mid-2011. It is well-established and has an abundance of pods that I have to scrub off the face of the tank everyday. It is an upgrade from a BioCube 29 (which falls far short of 29 gallons). The display tank is 30 gallon acrylic and the sump is a 15 gallon acrylic. The return pump is a 600 GPH Oceanrunner and I use a Vortech MP10ES on the reef crest setting (highest at day and turned down at night). For filtration, I have a freshly broken in Eshopps S-120 Economy Cone Skimmer and I use ChemiPure Elite to help deal with chemical warfare from all of my corals. I have a 24 Cree LED (12 XP-G White, 12 XP-E Royal Blue) DIY fixture for lighting. Upgrades are on the horizon. I will be doing a lighting upgrade (12 more royal blue LEDs) followed by a tank upgrade (50 gallon display). Frag placement I placed the frag within the top 6 inches of water column on mini frag rack. Dosing I use a Reefkeeper Lite with kalkwasser auto topoff using pH to controller option. I also do some occassional dosing for alk, calcium and magnesium to maintain parameters. I also perform weekly 5 gallon water changes.
  20. That's a great amount of light for your tank. How much did the "bulb" run you?
  21. What size are the teeth and the gaps on the overflow?
  22. I got the email. Some items don't go lower because some companies do not allow BRS to reduce their prices beyond a certain point. But, there are some great deals on here. Happy shopping everyone!
