I am so freaking frustrated. Anyone know how to catch a cleaner shrimp in a large tank? I tried at night, feeding, sneaking up on them. I know that they dash backwards when they get scared so I always come behind. I got one of the two in the net once but it got out before I could get it out of the tank. I need to remove them before I use the interceptor to treat redbugs. I am to the point that I am just going to treat and hope they dont die. If they do, well... Unless someone has an idea? All of the crabs are caught, I just need to catch these 2 shrimp!

according to sanjay's site the phoenix 14k blow away the ushio 20k in PAR, well...the phoenix 14k out performs most of the bulbs, including the top 10k bulbs. Calvin I read the same study about them lasting a lot longer, I am noticing the color of my corals isn't what it should be, and I think my bulbs are about 18 months. I think I will shoot for 16 months as well. They are relatively inexpensive bulbs anyways.

i dont know about everyone else, but i have about 5 babies right now. kinda nice that this one is growing, since the last one melted away...

I just got done updating all of my measurements on Reefnook, and charting everything. It reminded me to bump this and see if anyone else has interest in winning the RK lite or a free frag. The drawing is on the 15th of this month!

Thanks guys. Miles I think you need to build a deep tank, its the new trend... Matt, glad you came out of the woodworks. I love the depth of this tank and will never own a tank that is less deep. I am really thinking that I would like something even deeper, maybe something similar to garrett's 5x5 eventually. Maybe I will do a 72 x 72 x 36...who knows. Garrett, thanks. The rockwork does give the fish lots of room to swim, and also allows for the flow to move through the tank without much restriction. I actually like having all frags, and will just let them grow. I want them to choose their own path of growth based on the conditions, so that they look natural. I have seen many tanks where you have coral changing directions of growth based on the tank, and to me it looks weird. I like watching it grow from frags, but also want it to look mature, right now...

Alright I got some new full tank shots last night and thought I would share. I really like taking pics at night because you get a whole lot less glare. Frags are still small but they are growing steadily. It will be a while before they actually look like corals instead of my tank looking like a frag tank. And I got another pic of the new Trachyphillia. Come on all you lurkers let me know what you think.

What a great tank to have as the first TOTM. Usually everyone gravitates toward an SPS dominant tank, but this one is amazing, it certainly got my vote. I really like the mix of corals, softies, lps, sps, its great. I can imagine you get some stinging going on between corals. I absolutely love those monti pics, simply amazing.

I have frags of the pink lemonade, about 5 of them! Not sure about the cyphastrea yet, you're going to have to convince me to frag it...entice me.

Did anyone hear about the Mountain West Reef Fest? It was a pretty big deal and thought maybe some of you heard about it.

Today was the WMAS sponsored Mountain West Reef Fest, and it was a blast. I didn't initially intend to go, couldn't really afford it and I knew what kind of stuff was going to be there. I knew there was going to be some sweet stuff and it was going to be too tempting. Well I got tempted, big time! But before I get to that I would like to say that the event was amazing! There were great booths representing many of the great big name products that we all use on a daily basis. I enjoyed talking with them, listening to the presentations and looking at all the coral. This event was a hit! Now, what I got tempted with, Dave from Reef Kingdom had some amazing stuff and once I saw it I couldn't let it pass. Now I have to sell a bunch of coral to pay my rent...lol. Bought 2 amazing trachy's, honestly these are so insane. For those that saw them at the actual show, you can vouch, they are probably brighter in person than they are in the pictures. I am completely blown away by these corals.

This is true. The only proven methods of killing ich is treating all (100%) of the fish in your system. This needs to be done with hyposalinity or copper, and like you said, 8 weeks. The 8 weeks isn't to kill the ich on the fish, it is a fallow period to kill the ich in the display. As said before, without a host the parasite will not survive. The only problem is....if you get frag from someone, or from a local fish store and it has ich, even if none of the fish in the tank are showing it, you may have just added ich, right back to your aquarium.

my display tank was always my frag tank, always trading and selling out of it. finally i decided to set up an actual display tank and frag tank, and distinguish the two...

IMO, if you missed crabs and shrimp and they lived, chances are so did the redbugs. You may have killed most, but there are probably still some. Get the rest of the crabs and shrimp out before the next dose and up the dosage a little. The way interceptor works is killing all crustaceans, which redbugs are, will also kill many of your pods.

You may have had redbugs for a long time and not noticed. Narrowing it down to a single coral that gave them to you would be hard to do. I have had them before, and have them now. They are super easy to treat, so dont sweat it. I found a friend that was a vet and they signed the prescription that I ordered from drs foster and smith. I treated the whole tank before and will do it again. It was easy and very effective. Many people say that you can kill them in one treatment, but I will probably do the 3 treatments to make sure. As said before, remove crustaceans, skimmer, carbon, poly filter, ect and treat with interceptor. Works great! http://www.melevsreef.com/redbugs.html

Questions: Are updates going to be required every week, or just randomly? There are a ton of threads in this GOC and it is hard to find what is required sometimes. I looked and looked but couldn't find the ending date for this GOC. I am leaving for Egypt for 3 weeks in Dec/Jan. I wont be able to update or even check on the coral.
