I have had tanks that were about 4-8 inches above water w/ no issues. Depends on reflector & spread wanted over the area. Of course the lower the hotter but higher par ratings.

same here I was using 2 of the latest gulf stream kits in my 210. It was way stronger then my seio 2600. You only need the magnet & motor, no need for the impellor. I don't think motors go bad.
