  1. I already target feed the sun corals and the anemone (yes the RBTA that we force split at your place) twice a week. I will add the duncan on the list! Kris
  2. I just had an eye opening expierence. I want to thank Travis from Upscales a ton for helping me figure this out. I have had a heck of a time with Algae. It has been mostly brown slime junk with a bit of hair algae. Now we all know that phosphates are the key to having or not having, and after testing my water coming out of the RO/DI and having zero, and after testing my WC water and having zero, I was at a loss. Today I found the answer....pellet food. The test (done right before my eyes) proved it all! 10-12 pellets shot the phosphates way up! Imagine feeding that daily or every other day! No wonder my tank is slimed! I have since tossed all of the "processed" food, pellets, flakes etc, and have switched to cyclopeeze. I will keep you updated on the process. I also replaced my clowns that I lost back in december and bought a fox face and a duncan head! It was a merry (belated) christmas for me! Kris
  3. Well, you asked and we listened! Kris
  4. Interested in locline and float valve. Pm sent.
  5. B-days should be happy! Have a good one and be safe! Kris
  6. I think the most frustrating part of this is the algae associated with phosphates/nitrates. I have an RO/DI unit, but the water is so bad here, I can't keep up on the filter changes. A newly refeshed cartrige of resin lasts about 2 weeks...less with filters greater then 3 months old. I am guilty of over feeding...I feed a bit of hikari pellets every day. I feed mysis 2 times a week and frozen rotifers 2 times a week. My new tank is overgrown with gross brown-red slim, presumably cyano. I am on my second round of chem-clean, my lights just got shut down for 36 hours as did the feeding. I will cover the tank tomorrow to ensure complete lack of photosynthesis. I have a minimal sand bed, and a small bio load (livestock). I use polyfill as a mechanical filter (changed every 2-3 days) and my skimmer pumps out the nastiest skimmate in the world. I also run carbon and a few other buffer packets. I have a good size ball of cheato in the sump with low flow and a few pieces of LR in the sump as well.... The battle rages on. Perhaps a UV is on the list next. Kris
  7. Looks good. Make sure you have enough space to manipulate the skimmer. It will need to be able to be cleaned (including the entire body every so often). Also be able to get to the needle wheel of the skimmer pump to clean it. Live rock in the sump can build up Nitrates. I have a few pieces, but they are under heavy flow. Where is your return pump? Is it plumbed externally? Have you planned for evaporation? Usually, a seperate area for return is usefull so that evap can be monitored. Good Luck. Kris
  8. Seeding is usually a good thing. Using LR from an existing system can work wonders. You still can have an NH spike and kill all the fish off...I switched tanks, tried to move things slowly....things went to heck, had to get the fish out of the old tank and put them straight into the new tank (I should have kept them in the bucket while I had em') and the developed ich, death, ammonia spike, more death, ammonia burn...and now I and the tank are recovering. Be prepared to combat the negatives should they arrise... Kris
  9. Thank all of you for your rationale replies to this post! I personally just want the arguing over. It is true that those who hold memberships will ultimately decide, and I will post a thread in the members section to vote on this subject. I will utilize Barelycuda's suggestions and put it to vote for 72 hours. This decision will be made after that! Please stay tuned for the announcement here in the general forum, and if you are a member...get in there and vote! Kris
  10. What it means is that I would really like this reef club to remain a "reef club" and not a site that gives way to anything and everything (and anything and everything always has a start somewhere). It also means that any decision has a process, just like a democracy. Furthermore, it means that this club should not have to impose rules to discourage certain behavior in attempts to maintain unity and cohesiveness. Will there be an "ultimate" decision? I am not sure...is that what everyone wants or needs? Do we really need to define it in "black and white" terms? By all means, if that is what the majority wants, we can certainly get to that point. I myself would prefer that we, as individuals, "self-rule" and make appropriate decisions regarding the nature of our posts and replies. We all know how popular censorship is! I only want the best for all, and that means the best for the site and the club. Politics are no fun. I can only hope that we will be what we are....a group of individuals that get together and discuss reef topics and provide experience and education to anyone that may log in! Kris
  11. This issue has not been dropped nor been decided upon. This club is based on the values of democracy. What I posted in the member section regarding "drama" is MY 2 cents on the subject. It in no way reflects an ultimate decision, as I, nor other BODs, officers or members, have not been involved in a "decision" regarding this subject. I again state that I hope we don't have to come up with "rules" regarding this nature, yet only a desired recommendation. I will, however, continue to push that this fish club remain a fish club and not an avenue to sell "off subject" items. Kris
  12. I got a bad joke about relative humidity....but I won't post it here!!! I am so happy that I put everything out in the garage! It has been a challenge, but I have none of the issues with moisture. The garage is WELL ventilated, and even at freezing temps outside, I am able to crack a door on the sump enclosure and clear out excess moisture. I did notice a problem with moisture when the 55 was in the spare room. I too left the window cracked at all times. Albeight, I never had to use the heater in that room! Kris
  13. I managed to use a large plastic container for a trap. This first fish swam right in, I couldn't catch the others though. I eventually put the one back into the main tank and treated with Metrondiazole (god as a pharm tech I hope I spelled that right). So far things are looking a bit better. Kris
  14. Its nice to have enthusiasm! You are a great asset to our club, as are each and every one of our vistors, members and sponsors! Kris
  15. I am with you...I got to work tomorrow so I may conk out! Happy New Year to All! Kris
  16. Thanks Doran...a bit far to drive for a trap! I am devising alternatives....they are dominos...how smart could they be????? Remember, these were the ones hosting my baby RBTA, by open brain, my frogspaw, by devils hand, my....
  17. Does anyone in the Tigard/Tualatin/Beaverton/Newberg area have one that I can borrow? I need to get the two dominos out of my tank to treat for ich. I lost both of my clowns while gone on vacation and I don't want to loose anything else! Thanks, Kris
  18. I bear things are pretty bad. I myself am sitting here in sunny Fresno California. We set up our generator before we left and gave our neighbor instructions on what to plug in. It should easily run the pumps skimmer and heaters. The power in the neighborhood below lost power last night. Rylie's friend and her dad came to my house to charge phones and watch the rest of the game! Everything looks good except I lost one of my clowns. It appears that the ich probably did it in. I will just sit and pray that everything goes ok from here on out. For me and for All of you up in Oregon! Kris
  19. When things look the darkest...there is ALWAYS a silver linning. I know this from experience! Hang in there and Happy Holidays! Kris
  20. Well, not from Bush or Obama...just little ol' me! I want to thank each and every one of our members for making this a great year! We have had some great meetings and some great parties! We are lucky to have such wonderful sponsors too! The donations we received this year alone easily hit the $1000.00 mark...it was nice that we were able to pass those donations on to you folks! Congrats to everyone who won something by raffle or door prize or received a great trade or gift from a fellow reefer this year. I also wanted to take time to thank our officers and board of directors. As you are aware, we are all just volunteers. Many of these events take a ton of time and I appreciate all the time and effort they have put into all of the events! I am really looking forward to next year and the meetings and events we are working on. Remember, we couldn't do any of this with out all of you! This is a great club, a great site, with a lot of great people. I said this before and I will say it again...those bigger clubs can't hold a candle to us! I hope all of you have a safe and happy Holiday Season. I hope everyone is able to find "their" true meaning of Christmas. Me, I can only hope that I can give a little joy and happiness to someone who is less fortunate than me, and that my family and friends remain safe, happy and healthy! Happy Holidays all....and Happy New Year as well! Thank to everyone who has given me this opportunity to be a part of a wonderful thing! Your President....(rock2) Kris Waters
  21. Thanks Ryan...I will be glad to get together with all of you today! I will be happier when we all get back home safely! Hopefully everyone is prepared for some winter weather, however it probably won't hit the valley until early morning hours. We could wake up Sunday to a bit of snow. Kris
  22. Sounds good about the white elephant. Kris
  23. I am really bumbed that the weather chose this weekend to rear it's crazy head! Please, to all, be safe driving in to Salem! I am sure if things get bad, no one will be "stuck"! We got a lot of folks willing to help out! Sooo.... We would like to start eating around 4:30 pm Presentation from Joel around 5:15pm We were planing the auction around 6pm. We have other vendors that have donated frags, so we can auction those off and use the GC's from Jody (he won't be able to make due to weather) as raffle items! Thanks again. Kris
