  1. These are a must have if you want to maximize you water system. You'll also need a switch.
  2. I would like to see my tank circulation in action to ensure proper coverage. Is there something I can add like food coloring to see the water movement?
  3. I would sure like to put in a large cylinder tank in my vestibule next to the stairs leading upstairs. Where does someone buy such a tank?
  4. I'm using Kalk solution in my ATO which uses a float valve in my sump. Is it normal to get a white crusty build-up on the top of my sump water.
  5. I'm curious how many folks are using Tapatalk on this board. Is it a safe app or will it install other stuff?
  6. Really cool looking tank. Be careful with that xenia having free access to spread about
  7. Many of us in the reefing community are willing to spend an extra dollar for quality products and service. I thought I was doing this when I purchased a Bubble Magnus Curve 7 skimmer. Unfortunately, I have been one of the rare cases where I have a defective pump that goes out intermittently. I recently contacted the distributor, Sea Side Aquatics who quickly replied and asked me to send my receipt. Having purchased the skimmer from a local fish store, I had the skimmer, but it only had the total amount listed on the receipt. Sea Side sent an email stating, "After carefully inspected your receipt unfortunately the 3 you sent were not acceptable, we would require a copy of the receipt that show the purchase of a "curve 7 skimmer." The ones you sent doesn't show anything but the amount." Also, Sea Side said, "Please note it's the customer responsibility to send the pump back to us for inspection and confirm the issue.". Of course, for many of us this isn't possible because we need the pump/skimmer to be running. I asked if they would send a replacement so I could return the defective item. They said no. I guess I'm getting to spoiled by Amazon's (and other companies) return and exchange policies. In my opinion, Sea Side (Bubble Magnus) is demonstrating very poor customer service. Reefers are willing to pay a premium price for quality products and service, but Sea Side is making every effort to ignore the warranty on this product. Just my 2 cents. Shawn
  8. Any recommendations for a tabletop bandsaw?
  9. Ok, I'm one of the lucky ones to get a new Cerebra, but I'm not technically inclined enough to to beta test this new system. I'll sell for what I paid, which is about 1/2 off the normal retail price. Item just arrived yesterday and is in the box. Accessories are so new I don't have them yet. They will arrive this week. Vertex Cerebra Prima (includes temp, power bar, head unit) $375.00 Dual Junction PH Probe (arrives this week) $63.00 Dual Point Float Valve Sensor (arrives this week) $45.00 4,7,10 PH calibration fluids (arrives this week) $3.00 Total: $486.00 Price is Firm. If no one local wants - I'll return to BRS.
  10. Does anyone know whether we have to use vertex brand probes on the new cerebra?
  11. Very nice tank. What size tank.
  12. Interestingly I recently took it a part for the first time to clean it. Maybe I'll reassemble it.
  13. Checking to see if anybody has had problems with pump failure? Twice tonight I've noticed the pump on my skimmer stopped working momentarily and then start back up automatically. It's as though the power was lost and the pump died and then immediately restarts. The power source to the pump seems just fine. Not sure what is wrong. Has anyone else had problems with these pumps?
  14. While cleaning my tank today, I noticed the power go out on one of my Hydra HD 26's. A blue light came on next to the power plug and the light rebooted, turning back on. Anyone know why this might happen. I checked the firmware number which didn't change. Shawn
  15. Called my insurance rep at State Farm who said home is covered for sudden leak damaged, not prolonged leaks due to neglict. Livestock not covered.
  16. This is an interesting video I found on Coral Magazines website. You might enjoy. https://vimeo.com/68839588 Shawn
  17. Hello. I'm late to the game on this thread, but hope someone can help.. I've been using a Hanna digital checker and the results lately show the ALK has dropped to 7.44. I then tested using an API kit that shows dkh of 12. I've been using the hanna tester for a while which had showed more favorable results, but with the drop I added some C-Balance. Now I have hanna saying 7.44 and API showing 12. Was there some defective reagent?

How do I manage attachments for posting photos with messages? I'm trying to post some photo's, but it says I only have 2kb available.
  19. Thanks Toad Fish. I think my return pump was way to high. It was pushing about 2100 gph at 4.5 feet, which is twice what the Reefer 450 calls for. I turned the pump down yesterday and think it's better. Do you have the 450?
  20. I know the Red Sea Reefer tanks have been hugely popular lately. For those who have bought them, I'm curious how the overflow valve is working for you? I seem to have to slightly adjust might every day. I'm running a Jabeo DCT-12000 at 100% (which is about 1100 gallons at 4.5 feet), and a Gyre 150 (4 seconds on/off at 80%). The tank seems to need overflow adjustments everyday, either up or down. Anyone else? Shawn
  21. I know there are always various opinions on this matter, but you might find this article interesting. http://m.motherjones.com/tom-philpott/2016/02/coral-reef-NOAA-climate-el-nino
