  1. You might consider switching to some kind of drip top-off system. You can make a simple one with some airline and a small valve, or even a loose knot in the dripline. Then, just pre-measure the top-off water and siphon.
  2. My advice is to slow down. It's really REALLY hard I know, but nothing good happens fast in this hobby. I've been around the track a few times, and I still find it hard to slow down... and every time I've rushed things I've killed livestock and regretted it. IME, a tank can cycle according to measured levels in about 3 weeks, but something else is going on until ~6 weeks. Keep up on maintenance, tinker with your aquascape until you think it is perfect (that way you aren't messing with it and disrupting livestock later), and wait a few more weeks. Just MHO.
  3. Hi Kris, welcome to the club. Have fun with your reef!
  4. That books is amazing, John. Adding the hardcover to my wishlist...

    LED Advice

The NanoBox lights have a lot of fans over at Nano-Reef (the addition of 'lime' LEDs supposedly fills out the spectrum quite nicely). The Duo sounds like it'd meet your needs quite well.

    Dry Rock

I miss the hitchhikers. There was always something cool to look at. Might have to pick up a couple of pieces of rubble to seed the barren wasteland...
  7. The digital refractometer by Milwaukee is absolutely worth the extra money.
  8. Dry rock may be really convenient, but it sure is dull. Zzzzzzzzz.....
  9. Must be contagious. Same problem here. Bye bye $$.
  10. Sorry -- this hobby can be a heartbreaker sometimes.
  11. You'll wake up the next morning, floating in a bathtub full of ice, with one of your Acros missing.
  12. Gotta keep the basement clean ;-)
  13. That's incredible! Thanks for posting.
  14. RIP Firefish. It was eating great, looked fine last night. Today, dead on the bottom. Sigh.
  15. Check out the Tunze Nanostream 6040. It's small, controllable and (relatively) affordable. Plus, it's Tunze. I don't have one yet, but plan on adding one to my 10gal soon.
  16. Looks like the Brown Phase is starting. Perfectly normal, but still kind'a gross :-/
  17. I got mine at Cuttle Fish & Coral, for $22. I'm a bit worried about it though, I'm not sure it is eating.
  18. New guy in the tank. Video experiment using my iPhone:
  19. Same deal here on my iPad. No smiley chooser in full or mobile mode. :-/
  20. I don't like cheap, foreign rip-off (as in ripping off others' ideas, hard work and R&D) companies in general. I prefer to support companies who actively advance technology via ongoing, and often very expensive, R&D efforts and who deliver a high-quality product. I'll take Tunze, Eheim or Ecotech over cheap copies any day.
  21. I was really impressed with the Kessil 360 I played with at OiaB. Very well built, nice controllability, beautiful shimmer. [language filter], choosing is hard!
  22. Yeah, kind'a-sort'a -- haven't done much tank shooting lately. Maybe we should get together and I can get some practice in on your tank.
