  1. Although I lobbied very heavily to have the date extended and I was planning on entering one, but life got in the way and I was not able to...I want to say thank you to everyone who decided to open it back up, cause I think it was well worth it, cause we got some really cool things, so thanks to everyone in high places...and great job to everyone who entered there are some really good logos here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Hey reefgeek' date=' can you take a picture of this stand? Did he also build your other stand for the cube?[/quote']

I will snap off some pics of the stand...no he did not make my other one, cause I did not know that he even dabbled in making stands let alone, built them very well...or else I would have had him build it...

  3. Thanks everyone for all the offers...it still blows my mind how helpful people are in this club...Since Miles is coming to my house to get some corals, he is going to help me...but thank you so much to everyone for their offers, they are greatly appreciated...

  4. Tonight at 6pm and 9pm on the show Amazing Planet on National Geographic Channel, they are looking at the oceans, it is called Ocean Realm... The description is "This is an in-depth look at Earth's oceans; examines the effects of global warming" ...despite whether you believe in global warming, I think it will be a great program...

Times may vary... I have digital comcast and my national geographic channel is HD...so others may be different...

  5. I also have over 1K GPH returning through the sump and dumping back out both sides of the overflows without bouncing off the front until the middle tank. The Koralias bounce faster and closer to the corners and the fish cant swim well in the current ( school of chromies do somersaults) all other fish' date=' large Foxface, Large Mystery Wrasse, Large Yellow and Blue Tangs sort of hide in a "cave" while they are running. My Gobie sits on the bottom with his tail whipping about no matter where he is and the Copperband seems ok with it but hugs the live rock closely as sort of a handrail[/quote']

That is really interesting...Like I said I am running 4 #4's and my return is roughly 600gph...and I have pipe fish now, that have no problem in my tank, the other fish love the flow they swim up in front of it and let it push them towards the front of the tank...

  6. I could' date=' Ive tried alot but these things are pretty powerful across a wide pattern and Im thinking 2 may have been too much in a 155, when theyre off the corals and fish celebrate, Im thinking now of running them twice a day with Halide on and before off. Mine start and stop smoothly with no clattering or anything, not sure why they wouldnt work on a wavemaker[/quote']

Are you saying that 2 #4's are to much in your 155? Cause I have 4 #4's in my 60gal and there are no issues...

  7. If you have a place to sell in socal, then you can get some great stuff up here!!!! I would check into the outskirts of oregon city, mollala, estacada, boring, sandy, woodburn...would be some good places to start, or you could go further up the Gorge and hit cascade locks and possibly even hood river...Great tank, never seen red unions before!!!!

  8. Very nice Impur... I did the lights out 3 days a few months ago, and have decided to do it about once every three months just to help keep things clean, its weird how the skimmer goes crazy, only difference is I do not feed the three days, basically do NOTHING, just let ATO keep up what little water evaps and clean skimmer that goes simply crazy.

I hope you get you issues sorted, what a mess.

Nyles I know you were experimenting with this as well...What type of results do you have?

Sorry to hijack the thread Miles...

  9. Yeah, these are not meant to be set up on any wave makers, this comes from the company them selves...I am like you, I do not want to spend 1200+ on a bunch of tunzes on a controller...so I have 4 of these and I am just going to get a tunze nano 6055 and a single controller in my tank, that way it can create a slight wave motion and mix up the flow patterns in the tank...

  10. What a pain. I had UPS leave a box of corals on someones doorstep in the pouring rain in December!!!! I even wrote LIVE CORAL on all 4 sides and the top.

Got any pics of these acans? (drooler)

    acan1.jpg

I have a really good feeling these are going to color really well... I am actually going to be fragging them up and selling off a part of it, cause they are going in my pico tank and I think these will be really big in there...

  11. I will reiterate' date=' its all about temperature..... if it ships airborne your risk increases due to altitude temp changes... ground better till it sits on a hot or cold day. Insulation helps, hand warmers help, but seeing its acans you should be ok, they are a little more tolerant then other species with the LITTLE bit of experience I have had shipping them. You will just have to grit your teeth and wait and see.... you can track and pick up at facility also to reduce stress....[/quote']

yeah, problem is their facility does not open until 10am and then I am calling to see what can be done, I will probably be driving out there to get it...

  12. More than likely they will be fine if he used oxygen. The only thing will be the temperature but even then you should be alright. It was pretty warm yesterday and corals generally do better when cool than warm. It all really depends on whether the guy has any idea what he is doing. On a side note UPS' date=' Fed Ex, and DHL seem to be dropping the ball a lot lately.[/quote']

This is making me feel a little bit better...I know he ships alot and has great feedback, so I think he knows what he is doing...They have been dropping the ball lately...when I was on the phone with them last night, their hold "music" was talking about how they are putting faith back into the shipping process and how reliable they are, LOL... they can not even get a shipment from Vancouver, WA to Beaverton, OR right, that is reliability. Like I said, if I would have not been super sick, I would have driven there...

  13. Ok, so back to the topic.

I've gotten/shipped zoas 2 day with no problems at all. I've shipped a candycane coral 2 days and it arrived just fine. So if he did use enough water and large enough bags, i think you will be fine. If he skimped on those, buh bye acans.

    Good luck.

I hope he did a good packing job and being that he filled the bag with pure oxygen helps as well...so we will see...

  14. I agree with Jeffp' date=' I never let anybody ship corals or livestock to me that is within driving time of Portland. We have had too many mishaps with shipping, wrong facility, etc... We had a huge box of corals shipped from 30 miles away ups. The box had a leak and ups threw it in the garbage. It took them 12 hours to find the box and pull it from the dumpster.[/quote']

Well when they have a 72 hour rule that if you want to pick up and you are bed ridden sick (as in my girl was basically waiting on me hand and foot cause it hurt to get up and do stuff) makes it kind of hard to sit in 2 hour traffic each way...again, moot point and really offered nothing to this thread...

  15. The pump is suspended about a cm off the bottom by the vinyl tubing on the return line. It does not touch the side or bottom at any point (and you are right that when it does touch the side the noise is louder). I have a camp mat and two layers of thick indoor/outdoor carpet with rubber backing below the sump (probably 3/4" total). I will try the foam egg crate stuff and report back. Thanks.

Then it could be the pump, but you have to understand that a tank is going to make noise, just how it works out...but I am willing to bet the foam inside the stand will help...

  16. Why take the risk of shipping? If he's just across the river' date=' why not drive up there to pick them up?[/quote']

His rule is they can only be there, no more then 72 hours and he has really funky hours...does not stay open late and is not there all day, so people that have 9-5's makes it really tough...I have also been bed ridden sick also...so it is not convenient at all to get over there...

Plus this question is moot at this point, it has already been shipped...
