very nice shots - what kind of lighting is this taken under? MH only or Actinics? t5? Also - what are the specs on your lens? How about aperture/timing details I want to see what the hell I'm doing wrong!
Thank you very much!!! They are taken under, 400w 12k Reeflux SE halide (no actinics or t-5's)
Camera is a nikon d40 with a 105mm macro lens... as for details, I put it in raw, no sharpness, manual mode, aperture set on lens is f32 (have not tried to play with this to much) , shutter speed is set 8o (since I was just snapping quick shots, I did not want to play with this), exposure on camera is .7 (this does not matter to much, again I was not in the mood to play with this, so I just left it where I have it set for normal photos), I use a tripod and an remote for the pics and I think this really makes the difference... I hope that answered all your questions, if you have any more just ask.

You have a PM...why have you not added a FTS to the FTS thread? Your corals look awesome, your tank must look that way as well...

What is this thing?

Glad to see another new face on here... that is a way to buy the house, buy one with a tank already in it!!!!!

The finalists:
1. Phoenix 14k
2. Radium 20K
3. Reeflux 12k
The ushio may be good but its hard to find info on output. Im going with one of the three above.
Drock... I ran the 250w DE Phoenix and I am currently running the 400w SE Reeflux 12k...I know they have a couple of differences and are not both 250w and DE, but I like the reeflux better...I am seeing better growth and I like the colors over all...The phoenix turned everything blue, I mean growth tips that started white ended up blue...it kind of stained everything...I feel like the reeflux shows of more natural color better...
I have no idea if this helps...but if you have any more questions, just ask

I was wrong' date=' they're 1 sided on an HQI 250 ballast. It came with a couple of 20K Coralife bulbs, it will probably be a few days 'til I can rig up a temporary canopy to hang them from.[/quote']
In that case the reeflux 12k's are awesome or Radium 20k's are suppose to be super good as well...
If you are interested in seeing some colors of my corals under reeflux 12k's I could probably snap some...
-
I would go with pheonix 14k bulbs, they will yield much better par and have great color!!!!!!!! Hamiltons are not the best bulbs out there....I am running 12k reeflux bulbs, they are SE...but I do not think it would matter, and they are super great as well...

Do you have the original media that came with it?
I sure do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the filter pads as well...
-
Same to you and everyone else!!!!!!!

I recieved this email from a guy through our site im thinking local was messing with him lol what do you think?
Hello,
I was in the South Pacific last summer between Sulu sea and Malaysia. A
local showed me this piece of coral that combust when taken out of the
water. He removed the piece of coral from a bottle and expose to the sun.
After a few minutes the coral starts smoking and liquifying. Do you know
this type of coral?
I talk to the Smithsonoin staff about this coral and they have knowledge on
this type of coral. Please let me know if you have any information.
Sincerely,
very interesting...

I got some awesome colored zoos this weekend and I was having my blackout weekend and only had the VHO actinics on and thought Wow! Monday when turning on the 50/50 actinic whites with the blue actinics, the colors were OK, but didn't have the nice fluorescent pop at all. Some were hard to tell which was which. My moonlight cold cathode lights make them look neon as well.
I'm upgrading to halides finally and frying my brain researching bulbs. I'm leaning towards the Hamilton 250watt 14k bulbs. Anyone using these? Do they give good growth and POP as well? Are other bulbs better for that? I would like to only use vho blues for dawn/dusk and not for the WOW factor. I don't have the budget to buy, test, replace, buy, test, replace bulbs like I've seen many people do to find the color satisfaction.
do you have SE or DE?

I have a brand new Rena Canister filter Xp3 for sale... I was going to use this as a very efficient phosphate and carbon reactor of sorts, when I did not have a sump...this would work very well for someone who has a very small sump and does no have room for phos and carbon reactors...
http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx?idproduct=AP7315
that is what it is, I do not have any pics, but it is brand new so not much to look at since it is pretty much in the box...
Looking to get 75.00 out of it...let me know if you have any questions...
-
The worst part about this is they are a marine research team!!!!! You figure of all people who this would happen to, they would report it and try their best to fix it...Truly sad!
-
I would highly recommend acrylic when you are talking 10+ feet on a tank, I think it will be a very big challenge to get that completely level to keep the tank from cracking... James at Envision is the best, I would highly recommend him.

36" VHO's are back up for sale and the t-5's are still up for grabs....

Three words....Penn and Teller.
As I agree with you...They are kind of like Michael Moore... Out there for attention and extreme in some of their views, but there is truth to what they do, the difference is that their show is on HBO and Michael Moore is more greedy and wanted it i the theater. I would not call them a truly viable source, but I can assure that there is truth to they produced...I have also heard the same information from viable sources, not just a show on HBO.
