  1. 200 bucks for that seems like a rip. So you get something that makes little waves at the top of the tank' date=' but probably zero effect anywhere else for the most part. At least the vortech you get waves and alot of current thru the tank., (up to 3000gph) That would take nearly 3 Korlia #4's.[/quote']

Yes the vortech puts out good flow, but they are super expensive and to get good results a very open rock work tank is needed...I had two on my old 110 and they were not worth their price tag...

  2. jeez that vortech still has some massive deadspots...thats crazy....i dont really like that think....unless in a huge tank....i dont think either beats a dart on an oceans motions.

Everyone compares OM's to wave makers, but OM's do not make waves at all...they simply put current out at different spots at different times, so it creates very random flow...Do not get me wrong, I really like OM's alot, if I was running a CL, I would use one (as I have used one in the past), but they do not create a wave effect...

Yes, vortech's have some dead spots so to all pumps, thus why I want a wave maker and a sea swirl as well as a sea swirl...

  3. Too bad they didn't have floaties in the first wavemaker to see how deep it effects the water.....definitely a bit more than a small ripple though. The second wavemaker at the end of the video looked a bit dangerous or just an accident waiting to happen. Look closely at the right edge of the tank' date=' it was rocking the entire tank itself and the stand. Seems like quite a bit of strain on tank seams' and a stand![/quote']

I agree, the first one, had more then just ripples on the top of the water...with some power heads, it might make a cool random flow thing...

as for the 2nd one, it was a vortech...I think they were just showing what it was capable of...i do not think many people would get a 12" wave in their tank, considering more people have the water only about an inch or less below the top of the tank...but yeah, at that size of wave, could be very bad...

I am still slightly interested in what this might do in a tank...

  4. All it does is ripple the water. Point a powerhead at the surface and you get the same effect.

    They say:

Sfiligoi is proud to present their brand new, patented wavemaker designed to create even and fully adjustable waves in your aquarium. You decide the height of the waves and adjust using the supplied controller.

but you think it is just makes ripples on the top of the water? cause I have that already...

  5. Has anyone seen this thing in action or know where a review of it is at?

"What would make your aquarium even better? For sure, the addition of extrordinary ripple effects of light through the water like in nature!

These lighting effects are created in nature by the sun passing through the waves on the water's surface creating refraction of light and giving that shimmer effect.

Sfiligoi is proud to present their brand new, patented wavemaker designed to create even and fully adjustable waves in your aquarium. You decide the height of the waves and adjust using the supplied controller.

In addition to creating a stunning lighting effect, the turbulent motion of the water maximizes surface area and allows for excellent gas exchange & oxygenation."

they are only 200.00 bucks, which is an insane deal for Sfiligoi stuff...if it worked, would be a really good deal...I am almost tempted to get it, just cause it is only 200.00 bucks...

  6. I actually believe that southdown/newcastle is no longer producing the sand that is ok for our tanks...I did do some reading that everyone's fear of having sillica in their sand and having that in the tank is a horrible thing, some people are saying it is not nearly as bad...but I may have that very wrong....

  7. You may want to check out with the manufacturer of the bulb to see if there is a burn in time for the bulb before you dim it. Flourescent lamps for example need to be burned in for 100 hours min without being turned off before dimming or it drastically shortens the life of the lamp.

Thanks for the heads up...but to late now, lol...I have just been leaving it on at full power...

  8. It was covered with a clear tupperwear container - at Jordan's (Waves) suggestion to prevent the clowns from *****slapping it too hard before it attached :) Made sense to me.

Interesting...Jordan knows way more then me on anemone knowledge, so I would take his advice well over mine! :) I am just surprised that the clowns would bother it that much...but you learn something new everyday...

  9. Yeah, had it on the sandbed with some rubble under the sand. Covered it so the clowns would leave it alone. The foot never extended though :(

This morning though, the goby must've knocked the cover loose and the anemone was moved under some other rock :(

If you had it covered that may be the reason, since anemones love light, it may have been moving to find better light...the clowns will not bother it, this is their natural interaction in nature...so do not worry about the clowns...

  10. Thank you for easing my speculation. Heaven forbid I defame a good company name.

No problem...I know the internet is a scary place and there are so many horrible thieves on it trying to scam people left and right...So I completely understand where you are coming from :)

  11. Have you ordered from google before? I don't know if the $10 off is for first timers or not.

    dsoz

It is suppose to be for first time buyers, I bought something else from buy.com and tried to do it the way that first timers do it, but I still did not get the 10 bucks off, like I was suppose to...If you have a gmail account, you may not be eligible, but that is speculation...either way this is a killer deal on a TDS meter, I am going to order this, just so I have an extra one laying around.

As for someone thinking this is a scam...it is not, buy.com is a huge company that was started to rival amazon...so they are legit and not stealing your CC#, plus google is on it and they are also the #2 most visited website, so they are not running a scam either...

  12. I picked up an LTA last week from Waves' date=' and while it's a great looking animal, it's not settling in. I put it on the sandbed with some rock underneath to attach to and covered it to prevent the clowns from pummeling it.... still, 4+ days later, it's still not attaching to anything. Anyone have any ideas here?[/quote']

It may take some time...anemones can be very selective where they start to attach and sometimes they take a awhile to do so...

  13. Same here' date=' now I just need to get a ro/di unit :) :( I found a used 6 stage that Waves sold, (Aqua Clear I think?), but all the membranes needed replacing...haven't a clue what those costs are.[/quote']

You can get a brand new one with a set of extra filters off ebay for like 115.00 shipped...best investment you can purchase for your tank... They are zero TDS models and they test at zero, so they are well worth the money.
