  1. I noticed this part and have a question: how do you do this in a tank with substrate? Does the intake stick up through the substrate? And how are the returns positioned? Any pics?
  2. I think a 75G is only 18 inches deep. How is the clam doing, Miles?
  3. Nyles, what lights are you running and what's the depth of your tank? AFAIK, tank depth and coral placement makes a big difference with T5s. A 75G is fairly shallow. Miles, maybe run only half the bulbs for a while and see if things recover a bit. I had a 10G nano a couple of years back, and lost everything in it except the fish when I upgraded the lightint (28w pc to 80w pc), even though I was careful with the adjustment period and only ran one light for a shorter period. Things started going downhill within a couple of days. I had only softies in it, and they just melted away within a couple of weeks and then green hair algae took over. The tank had been going great for over a year before, and apart from the new light nothing had changed. Nothing I did helped, and I was repeatedly told it couldn't be the light and that something else must have gone wrong, but all tests came out normal. Maybe you could switch back to your old light for a while and see if that helps out the corals?
  4. Does anyone in the Eugene area have one lying around that I could purchase? Square Pin version? Our usual bad luck with lights has struck again and the bulb over our daughter's recently planted freshwater tank has gone out. I'm ordering one, but it won't come in for several days and the plants aren't going to make it. Edited to add: I got a 55w 6500k bulb at Sean's that's going to tide me over until the new bulb comes in! I'm glad you had one lying around, Sean!
  5. I put the sand in last night, and this morning the Tunze flow bouncing off the mid front of the tank had dug a nice whole and left the rock lifts there totally exposed. How do all you owners of tanks with sand and a strong pump deal with the blowing sand? Are there better ways to direct the Tunze output? Mine is in the left back corner, about 7 inches down from the top, pointing diagonally to mid front of the tank. Should I bring it up higher? Hang it on the side and have it point toward the opposite side? When I had no sand, the pump never seemed quite as strong!
  6. Thanks, I'll look them up in the phone book!
  7. Good! Anyone have an idea who might be selling these locally (Eugene)? Staples doesn't have a huge selection of cords, but I'll check there. VOS computers, maybe?
  8. Hey, Nyles, can I use one of these to plug in a pump instead of splicing something together? http://www.cablesdirect.com/prodimages/CC334_LR.jpg
  9. So, what all would I need to get this little venture under way? Obviously I have no clue when it comes to this! The tower takes up a bit of space, too.
  10. But where do you plug in your pump, or whatever you want running on this back-up? The plug-ins are all wrong! I need help with this!
  11. Here is a picture of the UPS with the plug-ins. It's a 24volt battery. I don't think I can use these, right?
  12. Maybe mine is the wrong kind of UPS then. All I saw were computer type plug-ins, nothing like a regular one. :(
  13. The link didn't work for me. Can you send it to me per email please? siskiou@vcem.com
  14. I haven't looked into it at all (the units are still in the back of the car), but I'll get to them this weekend, I hope. H2Ocooled, I was planning on running the Tunze, and possibly the heater in case of a power outage. Do you have any pics of your setup? I can't really see how to connect anything to the UPS without some kind of adapter.
  15. I came across two older Hewlett Packard UPS units, and wonder if they can be used as back-up for aquariums in case of power outage. Are there any instructions (with pictures!) online that would help me figure out if these are usable and what to do to get them ready? -Susanne
  16. I have no idea if it's possible, but it sure looks like it! (laugh) In my 20G I have blue and red schrooms next to each other. Now I'll have to watch out for morphs, but so far it's mostly red mushrooms taking over. I started with one and now have about 15. The blues are much slower to multiply.
  17. Exactly! Good idea with the rings of pvc pipe!
  18. No pics of it currently happening, but it looks like part of the candy cane is melting off. Like dangling a piece of chewing gum until it drops, if you know what I mean!
  19. The candy cane I got from Miles a while back is doing great and is "dropping" baby "heads" here and there. What do you do with them, so they don't get blown around by the pump or buried in the substrate? Do they eventually develop a skeleton so they can be glued on to a rock? I have several safely tucked away in a little hang-on breeder container and they are getting larger...
  20. Great! I'd love a green cap and a couple of digitata, once my rock is all in the tank. I'll contact you, when I'm ready.
  21. Gosh! I'm so sorry! Anything I can do?
  22. I threw a few frags into the tank today. They've been happily growing under pc lights in my 20G for a few months, and I hope they will like the T5s and not shrivel away. I put them fairly low in the 120G. This one's been fighting with some GSP right next to it, but I think the polyps will recover now. And can somebody tell me what this little frag might be? I got it browned out from Sean, and it's been sllloooowly growing and changing color.
  23. How about some green cap? I saw some in your picture and I have orange, but not green. And I might be interested in some green and purple digitata, though I should probably wait until I have all my rock in the tank (50lbs are currently cycling in a tub, and I have another 50lbs already in the tank, but will probably change the aquascaping once the rest goes in. Do you desperately need to get it out of your tank right now?
