  1. Jansen: We have a couple of maxijet 1200's, box of random pvc parts and a couple of sections of pvc pipe you are welcome to. I was also wondering if you have a copy of this papers: "Bleaching, energetics, and coral mortality risk: Effects of temperature, light, and sediment regime", Limnol. Oceanogr., 52(2), 2007, 716–726. I ran across it last week and sounds closely related to what you are planning on working on.
  2. I've been running a PM Bullet 2/pcx 40 for about 2 years now. It has worked well for me.
  3. I doubt all the the greatest minds in engineering at that time would of said that "she is unsinkable". It of been possible that the would of agree that she was less likely that most to sink. The problem is that this was exaggerated by those that have vested interests in her commercial success to "she is unsinkable". This exaggeration and bad luck is what took her to the bottom.
  4. Let me guess the pictures didn't help much either? lol
  5. My view is a little different. My view is that if we did away with all of the exaggerations we would do the right thing.
  6. All exaggerations should be stopped. They ALL hinder the way that science can maximally enhance society. This is true whether the exaggeration emanate from the left, right or middle.
  7. I agree, that why earlier in this thread I referenced the 2001 IPCC Report and "Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics".
  8. It does amaze me at times how much we don't know about the planet we live on.
  9. Another duck believer here. I believe in roasting at least one every fall. Thought I did promise to have roast beaver next year. Do anyone know where to get beaver meat?
  10. That was basically my feeling. When science is first presented in the popular press, one should be very suspicious.
  11. What pump are you using to drive your skimmer?
  12. Where will he be playing? I remember him and have an album by his father on my mp3 player
  13. When we made our DIY rock we used 1 part cement: 3 parts oyster shells: about 1 1/2 parts water. Seemed to work out pretty well.
  14. Like most things in life, it depends. I've done this several times. Most were easy and straightforward, just need to be CAREFUL. I also tried one recently that was a pain. The box that the outlet was in was too small. I finally gave up and put the standard outlet back in.
  15. Do you have a link to his reactor? I'm in the process of designing one for our tank and would be interested in his design.
  16. Are you saying I should plan on bringing the belt sander and knee pads, when you hosts?
  17. Have you tried Home Depot or Lowes? I've found everything I need for our plumbing projects there.
  18. Jay: I would be willing to host the Sept. meeting. Not sure if Corvallis is in the Portland/Salem or the Eugene district. Bob
  19. Why the camera doesn't matter Great pictures can be taken with any camera. Look at the pictures taken 100 years ago, with primitive technology. The art of photography is matching, the camera, the subject and the final display medium. The real advantage of a SLR over a fixed lens point and shoot is that by changing lenses is can be matched to a wider variety of situations. In my opinion, the differences in the pictures earlier in this thread had much more to do with the subjects chosen and the photographer rather than which camera was used. Here are a couple of links to a sight where a number of these issues are discussed. I used this sight quite a bit, when I recently bought our DSLR. I like there non techno-centric approach. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/notcamera.htm http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm
  20. I agree, that why when I got married is was in white jeans on the beach in Rockaway.
  21. At present we are running a single 400 W XM 10K over our tank while it cycles. I would be running two of them except I cut off the pfo three prong connector from one of the cables about a year ago and can't find it. If anyone knows where I can get the pfo type connectors let me know.
  22. Andy: My response was in no way intended to be a dig at you. I was personally interested in what the actual number of people affected would be. and thought you would be interested too. We all need to get our facts straight with this issue, just as we should of gotten our facts straight before the Iraq invasion. The 2001 Climate Report looked not only at the two countries mentioned about but also, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, and Pakistan. As to your question as to whether 32 million is too few to worry about, the answer is: Absolutely Not. It does put it on the same scale as: HIV/AIDs 2006 39 million living with Aids , ~3 million deaths per year http://www.avert.org/worldstats.htm Malaria: 300-500 million affected annually, 1.5-2.7 million deaths. http://archive.idrc.ca/books/reports/1996/01-07e.html http://www.searo.who.int/en/section10/section21/section338.htm
