  1. Is it predrilled with overflow boxes, or does it have a hang on back overflow box?
  2. Hey Dan, I'll buy one if you buy a chesse knife. LOL.
  3. welcome to the site. your tank looks pretty clean. In time it will fill out nicely.
  4. Yeah, still avaliable. I can take pictures tomorrow.
  5. I just came back from a trip from Bellingham. Pics to come tomorrow. The refuge is wider than the cube. The temp stays at about 78-81 with the metal halide on. You can easily skin the stand with some plywood but I like to look at the refugium just as much as the main tank itself.
  6. Oh nice, I was just reading an article saying how macro algae is to blame for some coral deaths in the wild and I just wanted to know if chateomorpha was one of them.
  7. Howzit guys, I know calurpa has calupins, which is a toxin that is released in the water and inhibits and often kills SPS in the wild. I was wondering if chateomorpha has any toxins and what is it called? Just a quick question.
  8. Edited first message. This is an old picture. It doesn't come with the aqualight fixture, instead it comes with a hood and 250w SE MH
  9. I have my nano setup for sale. This has been running for about a year and I am moving and need money. I have kept SPS with great success. Willing to part out. Includes: 24gallon Nano cube which has been gutted and drilled with an overflow box. $75 20H custom sump/refugium $25 Mag 7 return $25 250w 20K Hamilton MH setup (main tank) $110 2 X 24" powercompacts for refugium $50 Aqua C Remora HOB w/mj1200 (hung off of sump) $100 All plumbing included LS Free with system Heater $15 Turn Key System $350 For everything
  10. Acrylic 55 gallon Hexagon tank that has a black back. The back has been drilled for a closed loop and overflow box. Moving soon and need to get rid of it. $200.
  11. Those look exactly like the monti eating nudis that I had. Look it up online on how to treat them.

    What to dose with?

I second Michael, test everything before dosing. One of the first elements to go is usually Iodine. Go and get some test kits. I would recommend calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium. Those are the ones you will have to dose most often, besides iodine. Good Luck and keep on asking questions if you can't find a certain answer online.

    Clam Question

If you just got it, just give it some time to attach. Maybe it didn't like it's first location.
  14. oh snap, I had one of those in my subulata, but I never knew it was a snail.
  15. Where is the dumpster? I'll pick it up for free at 12:05PM. LOL.
  16. Yeah sorry Dan, I'll give you a call back later. Fortunatly, Hatfield was a great learning experience. I learned more there than all the years at the university. I'm glad to be back.
  17. might be interesting to know and try out since they stay small.
  18. Hey guys. I'm back from the coast for sure and I'll be back on the boards as well. As some of you may know, the research project didn't go through and unfortunatly all of the proffessors that showed interest and even offered me a spot in their lab have declined. They said that I should go to Cali, Australia, or Hawaii for this project. The only real chance for me doing this project here in Oregon is Tim Miller-Morgan in Newport, but I will be finishing up my degree and won't have time or money to commute to and from the coast. I am going to run the idea by him and see if he might have something over the summer. Perhaps I was a little ambious. So I have ALL of the stuff that people have donated and I will be happy to return it back to them accordingly. Just PM me the stuff you helped me out with (or the stuff that you can remeber you helped me with) and the time and place that would be most appropriate for me to drop them off. Thanks for your support everyone, sorry that not everyone has the same support as you do, even though we pay a little part of their saleries with our taxes (I am still a little sour). Thanks for all of the help from our sponsors: Waves, Advanced Aquarium, Coral Reef Pet Center, Saltwater Fantaseas, Seahorse, and Upscales. And all of the help from our members, you know who you are. I appreciate it.
  19. Aloha everyone, I know I haven't talked to anyone on this site recently, so I decided to let everyone know what's up with my research project. I just got finished with my fishes section by Scott Heppel on Friday, so now I have time to regroup. I've been talking to the academic coordinator here at the Hat, and he designated my own room for my upcoming experiments. NICE! But some of the electrical outlets weren't working and needed to be fixed and the room cleaned out by the facility crew. Well that was 4 weeks ago and still no progress. Unfortunatly, I will have to regret to say that I won't be able to do this research project here at Hatfield. Fortunatly, I know some professors that are willing to take me in to do this same project back at OSU during the summer. Just a matter of timing I guess! Since the summer is coming around everyone and their mother is getting ready for their Oregon coast surveys and experiments. Even one of my TA's (teaching assistants) is starting her conservation experiments of eel grass along the Oregon, Washington, and BC coast. So for the Hatfield crew, a silly undergraduate experiment with non-native corals was not on the top of their to-do list. At least we know that our tax money is going back to Oregon. Just to look at it from a positive perspective. But I just have to pay my dues, just like everyone here at the Hat. I will be working in Dr. Weis' lab durring the summer. At least there is a RO faucet, something not offered at Hatfield. Just to let everyone know I won't be at this site very often in the next month. In a matter of fact I can count the number of times I've been on this site on ONE hand since I've been to Hatfield. It is a lot more time comsuming than I thought! I'm also tossing around the idea of selling my own personal nano tank animals and equipment. I haven't had the time to keep up with my tank and it has since degraded in quality. I might also have the opportunity to go diving with Mark Hixon, the reef fishes expert here at OSU, in Hawaii where he is doing some experiments off the Kona coast of the Big Island late in the summer, after my experiments (crossing fingers this time). Well, that's my life story. Hopefully it will put some people at ease about the idea that I might be scaming the system or the like. If you have any questions PM me since the next time I will come on here, this thread will be on page 5.
  20. Aloha everyone, sorry, I've been real busy this week since I had my invert final on Friday. I want to start running my quaratine tank, but I need purified water. I don't want to use the salt water that they provide at Hatfield since we(everyone here at Hatfield) don't know what is in the water, such as pollution. I am resorting to artifical salt water instead. There are no RO hoses over here at the Hat, so I have to go find one, or get some. For those that are coming to the meeting, it would be nice if you could help me with providing some good 'ol purified water (RO, DI, or RODI). I'll be setting this quarintine tank in my "dorm-apartment" so there will be very little chance of contamination (since my project will be taking place in the education wing of the Hat). When you come over I'll let you guess which apartment I live in. I need enough to fill up a 40 gallon tank, so I need a lot of help. Thanks. Mahalo nui loa, (Thank you very much) Jansen Correa
  21. Well if you wanted to help donate some frags for Hatfield, that would be nice. I've talked to Dennis Glaze, who is the Aquatic Animal Health and Husbandry Specialist, and works under Tim Miller-Morgan. Right now he is doing Tim's experiments with transportating stresses with tomato clowns. Not to mention he also has to take care of all of the other fish behind-the-scenes. They've got a pair of black clowns that are showing mating behaviors and I suggested to try to raise the fry. And maybe at the end of summer they can have a clownfish exhibit at the Hat. Nemo galore! I'll try to email him today to see if he can meet us out there on Sunday.
  22. Hey guys, I was able to switch around some previous commitments, so I can show you guys our lab where we've got some cool inverts like some nudi's that we've collected and some other stuff as well. We returned some of the inverts that we have collected yesterday after our invert final. Hopefully I can show you guys a parasitic isopod on the mudshrimp Ubogebia spp. I can also show you guys where I'll be setting up my research project (if I can get the keys). Since the club has given so much to help me, I want to help the club in return. Trust me, there are going to be some things that you can't see at the Hat or the OC Aquarium. I have been busy with studying this week, so I haven't got anything done yet, or talk to the people I wanted to talk to. So I was wondering if anyone could bring over a bucket of RO, DI, or RODI water. I need enough to fill a 40 gallon quaratine tank. So start brewing some water, PLEASE!!! Thanks everyone.
  23. Ok, so I am at the Hat.(field) right now. I have all of the support I need. I'll be taking up an unused room for my research project, so that is sweet. Not to mention I've got access to a whole bunch of phytoplankton that they are using to feed their mussels, I'm assuming. Not to mention I have access to the ocean water. Well first I'll have to test it to see if it is too polluted and to see if all of the levels are in place. So now would be the time to let me borrow some strontium, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, ect., test kits. It is a pretty cool place behind the scenes, and I've only been to only a few buildings and offices here. Yesterday we had a look on the research vessel the Wacoma(?). Today we went hiking to the top of Cascade Head to have a view of the Oregon Coast. I highly recommend it, as it is only 2 miles in to the top of the prairie, so it is an unobstructive view of Salmon River and the coast. The hike is not very advanced, so I was able to do it. Tomorrow we get to go to Boiler Bay to collect some inverts in the tidal inter rocky zones. This weekend I'll be building/cutting my stands to size as well as making a trip up to Portland to talk to some LFS's as well as collect some more donations. I don't have every thing I need, but I'm almost there. I think I'll also be quarintining some colonies that LFS's and other people in the next couple of weeks. If you have some scrap egg cartons, I would love to use it. It's kinda funny, today I was questioned by my TA, to see if I know anything about stoney corals and why I'm doing this project. So I had to "prove" myself, and show that I know my "stuff." Finally, after two years with keeping SPS, I'm able to use my knowledge for school. I guess she was checking to see if I know what I'm doing, and looking to see if I'm doing this for the right reasons. It seemed like I was being tested. I've linked myself with my roomate Dan. He has a nano tank and has studied abroad in Australia and has written a 10 page report on coral bleaching. I'm sure he will be a valuable asset to this project. For those of you who will be going to Hatfield for the meeting, you will probably see him there. Anyways, I keep you guys posted on the next section which will be, Research Project Part II: The Build.
