Bicyclebill
Has the deaf community grown exponentially during the pandemic? When did having a sign interpreter on the side become normal in Portland. Don’t notice it on national news, but any Oregon politician has a sign interpreter on the side. Usually dressed inappropriately for the occasion
SuncrestReef
Normally interpreters are included in press conferences by the government in disaster situations, like following an earthquake or hurricane. Since COVID can be a life or death situation, it’s being treated with that same level of urgency to get information out to all citizens. It’s not just Portland. If you’ve seen NY’s governor who did daily briefings back during the first big outbreak, they always had interpreters.
