Flash21
Looking for a custom top for a tank...anyone know of a local spot for a custom plexi lid that won’t wrap? Thanks Chris
pdxmonkeyboy
"Plexi" aka acrylic will ALWAYS warp. ALL-WAYS. What you need is polycarbonate. The "green house" double wall polycarv at HD works great for lids.
Flash21
This is not for a reef tank....but yes Brian...

I actually keep dart frogs as well and the acrylic will still warp unfortunately. I used 3/8" acrylic to build a lid in combination with some 3d printed parts but even the thick stuff still warped due too vivariums having high humidity and warm temperatures. @pdxmonkeyboyis correct in that polycarbonate wont warp from the moisture. The first picture kinda shows the warping and this was just 2 days after I had made it. The second picture is for fun.
pdxmonkeyboy
Yup. Acrylic actually absorbs moisture. So like wood, the drier side will cup (because the wetside is expanding). How big is the tank? I still have some used poly pieces

There are small holes around the rim of the lid and a 40x40mm fan that sucks air out of the tank which is connected to a variable driver so I can adjust how much air I want to move. The holes around the rim keep the glass clear of condensation.
Gil&Fin
Is it just a weird coincidence that several of us have poison dart frogs??? I know Austin at Cuttle Fish keeps them, too. Oh, and so it doesn't look like I've completely highjacked Chris's thread, the acrylic lid on my vivarium warps, too--though it provides just enough ventilation to keep the air from being stagnant in there. Here is a picture of my little guys:

Deuce00
These poison dart tanks are so cool thanks for sharing. I can’t let my daughter see these or I’ll have some myself.
Flash21
I’m pretty sure I found something with Brian’s help...I’ll give it a try soon. Wife has a 40 Breeder that is decked out...just her OCD and the lid. I’m sure I’ll get it figured out. Don’t worry about hi jacking...I don’t care. Holly where’s my corals? Did you sell them again?
