Ok' date=' since we're on the subject - I've been wondering how to pronounce cheato. is it chee-ay-toe or cheetoh like the chip? This is the problem w/ me doing so much of my research online.[/quote]

LOL you wont find that in the online dictionary-I have always said chae-toe, and the other day someone said chee-toe-

I'm sticking with the chae-toe varitation os when in doubt ask for the "green brillo pad" like stuff

Zoanthid... so zoa (zoh-aah) not zoo

anemone (ah-nem-oh-nee)

Chaeto with a hard C (like celt) (kay-toe) that is how the "expert" Eric Borneman pronounced it.

Along with...

Acropora (ah-crop-or-ah) commonly called acro-pora

and Montipora (mon-tip-or-ah) commonly called monti-pora

These are latin words, and nobody but science geeks speek latin anymore, so as long as the word is understood, there are no real rules for pronunciation. (That is what my botany prof said when I was in college.)

Butterflyfish have always been pronounced (Chaetodontidae – key-toe-DON-ti-day), so with Chaetomorpha it should be similar.

Could Borneman be the "Eric" that is asking Bob Fenner??(laugh)

To-may-to or to-mott-o ... Chaetomorpha pronunciation 6/10/06

Hey wet-guys and gals,

Got a simple question for ya. How do you correctly pronounce "Chaetomorpha?"

<"Key-toe-morph-ah">

Thanks,

Eric
