  1. Looks like a clever idea, I am interested to see how that works out.
  2. I have always known zoo's to grow best (fastest growth) under vho's or t5's, however I really can't argue with Eric's results.
  3. looks like a good deal.
  4. No it was actually Eirc that misspelled patience, Eric doesn't have any patients.
  5. exciting, I just did my first personal tank in a long time. I had forgotten how much I really enjoyed this hobby til I did. Now I choose to spend hours staring at my tank again. I like the softies idea personally but freshwater can be fun too!
  6. Ha ha, don't ever let the imaginary terrarium get dirty. What blows me away is that I have woke up from dreams where I was singing a song, a song that does not even exist and it was a good song. The brain is an amazing thing.
  7. I saw this today and thought some of you might get a kick out of it. If you are a die hard Iphone lover then I apologize in advance but it is hilarious, really you have to watch it. It dies contain some swearing in the video so it's not for the kiddies (nono) http://www.break.com/index/iphone-4-vs-htc-evo.html
  8. How dare you Ruthie, praise the PNWMAS gods. Say 15 hail goby's and repent for your sins and all will be forgotten. Just kidding, we all love you.
  9. So I had a dream last night that everyone was screaming at me and I couldn't even hear myself think. It was intense and confusing so I screamed SHUT UP!!!!! and awoke immediately after wards to the wife staring at me from the other side of the bed with a look on her face like I just murdered a kitten.(wife) Well apparently I didn't just scream it in my dream, I woke up the whole house(waving) She was pretty mad at me for it but I couldn't help but to just laugh at the whole thing, I have never talked in my sleep before much less yelled.(laugh)
  10. I could put it up for you too for a while if needed.
  11. My personal recommendation is to throw it away as fast as possible and get a skimmer worth running. But if you insist on tuning it then try blowing through the hose while it's running to see if it will mix then.
  12. The only problem I have with fish like that is that they like to pick at the rockwork and some of my favorite stuff in about the reef is the little critters that crawl on it and feather dusters and what not. Those guys like to eat that stuff up.
  13. Yeah I really dont test anything anymore, unless there is a problem which I can't remember the last time I had one. Just stay consistent with your water changes as long as you haave a good salt and there is no reason to have any problems.
  14. I strongly recommend going topless (tank only please) and running a small 70 watt metal halide. Keeping the tank topless will allow you to run a good skimmer off the back as well.
  15. This is a short video explaining why the valve was never properly sealed. http://www.break.com/index/gulf-of-mexico-oil-spill.html
  16. You are more then welcome to use it too if it will work.
  17. can you send me some pics of it Clay.
  18. Well if it is acrylic then you want some weld on, either #16 or number 4 I will bring them both with me on my next trip.
  19. Yep, that's an aqua CON, if I have ever seen one.
  20. Thank you everyone and Happy Fathers Day to you too. This is my first year being able to celebrate it.
  21. Yep from experience as well I can say that most methods end up fragging them like crazy. I had 1 in my tank that hit a powerhead and I soon had 20 across the top of my rocks. I added a peppermint shrimp less then a week ago and they are all gone.
  22. Yeah but you have all the good pics of it. It's healing now and won't look so great for another week.
  23. Great job Clay! You should throw up a pic of the last one you did for me.
  24. Yeah this really is a saltwater forum, however the general rule is 3/4 into the tank and 1 1/2 out. This will vary though depending on what size pump you are running. To be honest I have never seen a freshwater setup that needed a sump but if you are looking to setup some kind of natural filtration then I suppose you could. 1. the size of bulkhead you need for that tank is the size of the hole you have drilled in it. Measure the hole and look for a bulkhead with that size O.D. 2. You can really use schedule 40 or 80, I think 40 is a bit more common so that is what I would use. 3. You can really run any size sump you want, there is no rule to it really. 4. I would recommend at least a 1200-1800 GPH pump, you can pick up a mag drive pump for cheap either here or at several different stores in Portland. And yes, if you are like any of the rest of us you will find it requires at least 10 frustrated trips to the store, PVC glue, fittings, clamps etc. A lot of patience and a bit of trial and error. It really is very simple but doing it for the first time can be frustrating so do some reading first.
  25. I have dipped coral in freshwater since I started and noticed that it won't always kill the nudi's and most importantly their eggs. I have literally spotted a zoo eating nudi on a polyp and put them straight in cold fresh water and watched the nudi cruise around with no problems and live after a 10 minute dip. I haven't experimented with too many brand name dips so I couldn't say for sure on those but if you put them in the freshwater and shake them around a bit and then inspect for eggs you won't find too many problems, and for the record I don't even bring the freshwater up to temperature and I have never had a problem with it.
