  1. With all the reading I have been doing about biological diveristy and the value of real live rock, I am thinking about ordering some walt smith Fiji live rock.

They have a shipment that is going to arrive in Jan 8.

Wanted to see if anyone would be interested in splitting a box?

    Its $7 a pound.

  2. So as you may or may not know, using vinegar to clean your plastic parts can leach through the plastic and eventually make your magnetic swell.

    Also, vinegar smells like vinegar.

Saw a post about using citric acid and gave it a try.. works great and no smell!!

A 5lb bag of pure food grade citric acid is about $10 on amazon. Mix 3/4 cup in a gallon of water... now you have a gallon of vinegar equivalent.

So $10 will make about 8-10 gallons of solution.

Pretty slick.. and you can also make our own bath bombs, sour patch kids, and descale your coffee maker.

    :)

  3. Triton without triton.. that's pretty funny actually.

If you are changing that much water weekly I dont think you would need a skimmer... or a triton test really.

It all boils down to nutrient in and nutrient out. If you have enough macro to export nutrients, dont see it as a problem

  4. I suppose I should update my profile since the last time I was managing a large grow operation.

Now I am back doing the natural resource consulting thing. I am a professional wetland scientist and have been doing lots of habitat assessments and what not on the eastern side of the state.

I will be spending this coming week shocking and net fishing in lake washington for a Boeing project.

If anyone needs to catch some fish then len me known...lol

  5. not copper.  If it is clearing up on its own then I would just see how it progresses.  It is effectively just like us, he bumped his eye into something and it got infected.  I see this more with freshwater fish. Typically you would treat with melafix which is a gentle antibiotic made from tea tree oil I believe.  If you wanted to be extra special kind t your fish you could put him in a bucket of water with melafix in it.  It is essentially neosporin for fish.  While they claim that it doesn't upset the biology in the tank.... its an antibiotic so, "they" could be completely full of it.

Melafix is cheap and good to have around.  If you see a fish with a cut or abrasion that is red around the edges a little melafix can help them out.

    Cheers
