  1. Just changed my mind. I will get the apex Jr controller and the controller for the reefstar as needed. Being able to turn things off without unplugging would be great and I would not have to remember to turn things back on.
  2. The Apex website made it sound like the light control feature was build-in and no additional module was needed. I figure I just invest the 100 for the reefstar controller into the apex. I think I will just buy the temperature controller and the controller for the reefstar. Thanks for answering my question.
  3. I was planning on buying a Reefstar Alpha LED light with controller but I have been having issues with temperature control. The tank would get too cold or too hot. I have two heater that I have to constantly adjust (includes unplugging and plugging in). I was thinking of getting a temperature controller, then I realize It maybe better to get an apex lite controller. There is no point in buying a separate controller for the light and having an Apex controller. I would use the controller for more than just temperature and lighting control. An apex control would make working with my tank smoother. Can the apex control the Reefstar alpha LED? I know the apex controller can control other LED lights but Reefstar seems like a better deal to buy.
  4. Here is my experience with a 50 pint kenmore. The one I have is not on the recall list. I had it for about 3 or 4 years. This is what happen to me the first year I own it. I bought it with a warranty from sear. It work great when I had it running. The warm months arrived and I put it up. When winter rolled in, the dehumidifier came out. I started it and it made a horrible noise. I sent it to sears and they fixed with no questions. It has been working fine since then. I am not saying kenmore is the best but If they offer a warrenty, you should probably get one for a less a year. My dehumidifier does have wheels, so no lifting is needed. You may want to check out consumer report magazines at the library (I know beaverton main library has them). It might help if no one else gives you any good recommendations.
  5. I am thinking about becoming a full member. So, what are the perks for paid members? I tried looking for them on the site but could not find anything on perks. If there is not such topic (perks of membership), can it be added into the subscription area or made into a sticky?
  6. I didn't have any mangrove but i would like to get one. So, is there a local place around portland where i can buy one mangrove?
  7. You should check out crafting stores or fabric stores for netting. That was where I bought mine, granted that it is white. I did see some clear stuff but it was not wide enought for me. But I only when to one store. The netting is called tulle and you can buy what you need. It is cheap to buy.
  8. Thanks badxgillen, the coral would be great.
  9. Here are a few pictures of my firefish and wrasse in quarantine. the other picture is of my main tank.
  10. I have done a lot of research on starting a saltwater aquarium, including reading a lot of forums. It took me forever to get a good fish list and a somewhat solid care plan. I have learned from other people's mistakes and successes. Hopefully, the mistakes I may make won't be catastrophic. This tank will be a reef tank in the end. No idea on what corals yet but i will start with soft corals. I need to gather the funds for the light. After a few monthes of self debating, I have decided that my goal will be to get a reef star. Right now, the lights I have are only good for fish only.
  11. I know they are jumper and I have a lid over them.
  12. I am so excited, I bought my first fish two weeks ago from my lfs. It is a red firefish. A week later (last Friday), I bought a McCosker's Flasher Wrasse. I am still excited. I had to restart the quarantine for the firefish. Both fishes are doing well and eating like underwater pigs. They both have beautiful colors. At the moment, they are hanging out in the quarantine tank. One day in the far future, they will be moved to the main tank.
