  1. Yeah I'm sure it's not.. Did you tear off and reroof?

No, just a recover, only had one layer anyways. Seriously though, if you want extra business id canvass my neighborhood. Pretty much if someone doesn't have a new roof, they are due for one or it's blowing off.

  2. Lol, didn't know you did roofing Brian, we just had ours replaced today. This whole neighborhoods roofs are failing left and right from the wind. Gotta love shotty jobs using staples! I'm just glad the nightmare is over for us...my coral fund isn't so happy though :(

  3. I thought we should start a sticky thread for those ready to do some trimming and wouldn't mind giving it away to someone looking to start or add on to their current fuge.

Given that most are wanting to do some trimming asap, please be curtious of this and try to contact and pickup quickly.

I'll start, it's that time again!

Variety: Chaeto and Fern Caulerpa available

    Amount: 1-2 baseball size amounts

    Location: Vancouver

  4. Also, if it were me, I'd go with the yellow clown goby. Since we don't have many yellow corals, a yellow clown goby adds a nice bright yellow contrast to the tank. Similar to how many of us like to have yellow tangs in larger tanks (I have 3 myself).

  5. My 5 lb tank lasted about 9 months on my tank. I had to replace/add media after about 6 months. My reactor is the same as fishmanmike, but I've got a fancy 2 stage regulator that Wanareef built up. I've also got a Dwyer MMA flow gage for effluent, and running a Sicce 1.0 pump for feed. I have a throttle ball valve on discharge of feed pump going into reactor, then a fancy Vertex/Uline needle valve for final balance. Took a bit of patience to get dialed in, but now it's a no brainer that I rarely have to even look at. I have a secondary chamber, but I believe it's worthless really. I've got magnesium on top of reborn media in main reactor that isn't breaking down, so no co2 is making it to second chamber to make it worthwhile. I still have to add magnesium to my tank manually. I don't miss having to mix 1 gal jugs of 2 part once a month though.

I've noticed the same thing with the mag media. When I read about it, some people said it needs lower ph to melt. I also dose in addition but I think it is partially helping because I don't dose very much mag.

What's your ph set point? Mine is 6.6 with a .2 hysteresis, seems to be ideal for my setup.

  6. If I set up another tank it will be difficult cause I wouldn't have anything to support my lighting. Cause my lights are on custom made hangers drilled to my stand

I mean setup a holding tank temporary while you take stuff out and vacuum all the sand out and do whatever clean up you want. Corals can go several days without lights as long as they have heat and flow in the temp holding tank. Then put them all back in the tank when your done messing with it.

  7. CR140 reactor

    5lb co2 tank

    Aquatic life reg

Feed via manifold off my RF Dart return pump with ball valve

Controlled VIA Archon with pH probe in reactor

Effluent controlled with pvc needle valve from usplastic

Media used is TLF Reborn and BW mag media

As far as clogging, the needle valve is a bit more prone. I check the outflow and make minor tweaks. Occasionally I will open it wide open into a container to clear the lines out. Stays pretty consistent overall though.

If I had money to throw at it, there are some crazy lab grade peristaltic pumps that people use for feed. I haven't really noticed any inconsistency with the manifold though.

Here's and older pic, it's on the LHS

  8. Nice! I had the same issue a few months back. Was my membrane being stupid old (my fault). Guess the standard from most is yearly replacement to be on the safe side. Mine was putting out way worse TDS than yours and using up resin like its hot. Now that we're back down to zero the algae blooms on the glass have dropped off significantly.

  9. Just take it easy with the ramp up and everything should be fine. These have the diffused lenses so they are easier on the corals initially instead of laser beaming them to death. I'm sure your nem will adjust quickly.

  10. You definitely can't see anything on the mobile version, I cant even see it if I view profile on mobile...admins, can we add that to the mobile profiles at least? I don't care about people's age and bday as much as their location lol

  11. Tank really looks sharp! Corals have come a long ways.

What do you dose for Ca and Alk? BRS?

    Thanks!

I have a Ca Rx with Reborn media and some BW Mag media in it too. I love how easy it is now that it's dialed.

I was using BRS 2 part on my doser but switched over after almost crashing the tank with unequal dosing. Now my doser has mag, Acropower, and vodka. I keep the vodka to an absolute minimum lately and the corals have been much happier.

  12. I’ve never lost a fish to Ick, how were you “treating” it? Any fish I’ve had that came in with it got over it with just feeding regularly. Sounds like there is some stress in the tank aside from the diseases. What are your tank parameters? Is their sufficient space for your stocking?

Buying from a single LFS may in some cases limit diseases but ANY store can get a bad fish in. All it takes is one to infect the rest as you have found out.

At this point, I would recommend removing all fish and putting in QT with a treatment plan. Don’t put in any fish for several months to allow the diseases to die off.
