  1. i drag mine around all the time, they hit the sand, frogspawns and hammers are pretty tough when it comes to handling and they recover quickly, looks like its going to be just fine.
  2. its happened to me as well, one more reason to plumb backups in every tank. Sorry to hear about the xmas gifts, hope it turns out ok.
  3. i've had nothing but bad luck with microbacter and biofuel. whats the secret?
  4. you need to run carbon for sure, but that will not remove the copper and other metals. i would try cuprisorb by seachem, its specifically designed to remove copper out of the water collum. I to would also setup a temporary hospital tank using cycled water from an LFS and transfer all your coral into that tank until you can get all the copper out of your tank. You will need to get a test kit as well for copper.
  5. I have sand in my fuge for the algae to root too and the flow in my fuge is probably only 150 gph.
  6. I feed my gumbo daily ontop of a fistfull of nori U need to get your fuge growing. It will help with algae and nutrient problems.
  7. Better not show this to my kids
  8. stay strong bud, i know what your going through.
  9. the unfortunate part about amino's is they vary greatly. the Elos amino's have been formulated to promote polyp extension and mimic the food source of planctonic bacteria in natural seawater. I think you would have a real difficult time feeding amino's of a random bottle of pharmaceuticals to your corals and get the results your looking for. I tried some amino's that was developed for fish and didn't get any response from the corals.
  10. starting this tomorrow as well.
  11. The achievement was 1000 posts without becoming a whale.
  12. the before and after from the beginning to the end of this thread is impressive. nice sps tank.
  13. yea it can be a little tricky to figure out without some firsthand experience in troubleshooting pc's. you can press control-alt-delete and run task manager which will show you all the things running in the processes tab. most of the things are required but you can get an idea of just how many things a pc has running in the background. the trick is to figure out what is good and what is not needed or bad.

    New light

make sure you know the age of the bulb as well if its used. a clam will die without good light and clean water.

    New light

a single 250w hqi is not going to be enough light for that large of a tank.
  16. vista is a pig and loves to get slow. but still 4gb should be enough. The only reason you would want to expand your available ram would be if you are running out of it during regular use and that would either be a. your using more programs than available memory or b. your running background programs that are eating up your resources making less available system ram for your applications that you have in use. Other things cause system degradation such as file fragmentation and excess temporary / junk files left on the hard drive. 1st, empty your trash can and try running the system tools that come with the PC to delete unneeded temporary files. Then run a hard drive defragging tool and let it defrag the system. Next get a good adware removal program like lavasoft adaware or spybot search and destroy, run this and remove all the threats it finds on a weekly basis. uninstall unwanted programs, toolbars in your browser and little desktop apps that might be running in the background. If you can get through these steps you will probably have a decent pc again. Worst case, backup your files and reinstall a fresh copy of Vista or Windows 7 and your pc will run like new again.

  19. we need the OS your running and your main programs / applications you run. not sure you really need a memory upgrade but more of either a rebuild of the OS or some basic maintenance. it depends on what you use your pc for but 4gb should be sufficient.
