  1. Maybe they are, it's hard to tell kinda off of the "quick dips"...But that's what it says. Maybe I should get a new test kit:)
  2. I use marine cuisine and cut it in half. Feed everyother day and once I come home during the week I put the cube in a cup of tank water and thaw it and conservatively feed throught until it's gone or when the light is off. I'll definetly cut back to twice weekDOH! That maybe a factor in the nitrates:) I have a nano koralia, but I desperately need another one for some cross flow. I'm framilar with cooking rock, although it wasn't necassary for me to do it because I bought mine precultured. And I'm getting a ro/di unit soon!!
  3. Thanks for the advice everyone!! The $99 dollar one looks promising, I can afford it:) But until I get it, I'm going to have to deal with bad water....:(
  4. Thanks guys for the comments!! I can't do a bigger system now, although I must certainly will in the future...My goal is to have a reef, seahorse tank, shark tank, octopus tank, and a FO tank! But that will develope over many decades!! And in my permanent home too! Will that portable one work, the $56 one, it's the cheapest smallest and looks like it does the same job:p
  5. Thanks for the replies!! Weird, my lfs told me that they ARE photosythetic...Darn, I already superglued it to a rock....I'm gonna have to wack it off!(threaten)
  6. Idk what could be the problem then, maybe it's the cyano that broke out
  7. Yes, that's it!! I have a 2x24 watt t5ho nova in my 20g, and it's placed low to middle, do you think it should go lower? Thanks again!!
  8. I was afraid I was going to hear that(sad)Buing ro water from a lfs is just so costly for every water change and top off! Isn't their some sort of phosphate conditioner that I can put in my premixed water??
  9. I know I've been sending out alot of threads recently, but what I thought was a very stable nano tank turned out to be the contrary!! I think part of the instability is maybe I have some phosphates in my tank. I use red sea salt which claimes to have 0 phosphates. I use tap water, but bend or is rated some of the top water in the world! I use a two part conditioner. Is there some way to reduce phos w/o having to buy a RO/DI system?? I've heard of phosphate pads that soak them up, but I don't want some ugly pad in my tank all the time! So what do yall think? An experiences you would like to share!! Thank you all so much for all of the help on my other threads and welcoming me into this forum, and I also want to thank you all in advance for the future advice! Thanks, Connor
  10. I have this coral that looks like a Sun coral, but it isn't and I don't know the name, can anyone help me out?? And it's also been closed for a few days now and it's not opening fully, I don't know what's wrong. But here's a pic from a different forum, couldn't figure out how to get it on this one:): http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/album.php?albumid=363&pictureid=3594
  11. Thanks pledosophy for your expert advice:) Since I don't have any anacorpia then I assume you mean the light technique is appropriate. Then a big water change then cut back on feeding...But really, 4 fish? you think that's an overload, they're all supposed to stay 3inch or less. The ycg right now is probably a half an inch, the clowns 2 inches and the gramma 1 inch, soon I was going to trade the ycg for a cherub angel, but that won't help or make an sort of a difference. Do you sugggest adding dead rock to the tank for extra bio filtration??(In the future once it does come alive of course) THanks again!!
  12. If the problem doesn't stop soon, I'll move towards the product, but for know I think I will do it chemical-free:) Thanks everyone!!!
  13. Oh by the way, thats a BEAUTIFUL tank reefnjunkie!!!
  14. Parameters: Nitrates-about 10-15 nitrites-0 ammonia-0 alkalinity-300ppm pH-8.1 calcium-500(I know a bit high, not sure how to lower itDOH!) It's about in the middle of my tank, most of my rocks are lower except a center one which is very high.I only have about 8 rocks, but they are bigish. Hope this helps, the other heads are great, but one faceing towards the back wall looks like an anemone when it splits only it's drooping downward and tearing...(sad)
  15. My specs in DT right now: 20 gallon 15-20ish lbs of lr 30lbs of ls bibcube skimmer with airstones 1 koralia nano 2x24 watt t5ho current nova extreme 1 10k 1 actinic 2 perc clowns 1 royal gramma 1 yellow clown goby trumpet coral Frogspawn not sun coral, don't know the name but looks exactly like it About the nitrates and vacuuming: Sorry, I know I don't know very much about cyano, but I do know that nitrates are removed by deep vacuuming in the sand bed. It removes wastes like poop, left over food and algae. And since my skimmer needs airstones I just put a new one in and everything is clearing up and the algae isn't growing AS fast, but still there. Thanks for all of the advice, comments and input everyone!!
  16. I use conditioned tap water. I see plenty of people that use ro/di water and still have this problem, so I'm not sure it's even worth using special water....So you had a reef tank and nothing died correct? That's interesting, I don't know if I should take the chance(scratch)
  17. It's low to moderate flow, I have one nano koralia in my 20. It sways the fs back and forth gently. What should I do if alk gets too low? How do I fix that?
  18. I've have had a fs for over a week and one of the heads have begun to tear!! It's like when I got it the skeleton was coated with a thck nutrient layer and now that is going away!! I have high calcium levels so that shouldn t be the problem, there in the 500s. How do I lower those? Thanks a bunch!!
  19. Thanks for all of the advice everyone! I have been cutting back on food, and yesterday I had my light off completely, I religiously siphon the sand and do water changes, but I keeps coming back(threaten)
  20. For red slime and cyano, people have recommended me this product: http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx?&vendor=&idProduct=BE1115&child=BE1115&tab=4&size=2%20grams But is it reef safe?? Many reviews state that their inverts all died in 24hrs(scary) Should I go with it? Has anyone used this in a reef tank?????
  21. The shimmer is nice, but the heat and the money is very high with mh. If you don't minding spending the initial money for the 8 bulb, your long term bill will go down. I'm a huge fan of t5ho's and I say go for it. They're life span is so much longer than mh, and the replacements are a lot cheapter too. What one were you looking at? Does it have indivivdual reflectors? And typically I like the white more than the blue IMO. It gives everything more of a tropical feel:)
  22. Yep, it's dead, I took it out, only good thing about that was, a brittle worm was on it along with a majano anemone which was also bad to have in the tank, so I took the whole rock out(small rock) and I got rid of all of them at once!!(naughty)
  23. Thanks for the reply, How do I know if it's dead or not???
  24. For about an hour or two, not drip, just simple adding cups of water every fifteen minutes. I dose iodine regularly, but I haven't the last couple of times, maybe I should now. I'll go add some...I'll see if that works. Sorry, Id give you a pic but I don't have my camera right now, my brother is useing it for a trip and he's on the east coast! Not an easy place to go and retrieve it from...
