  1. bump nice tank...would like to see the finished product.
  2. i think the aluminum foil is a great idea! At least for a quick fix. I raised the lights from off the tank. Problem is that the bottom of the fixture is about 15" from the surface of the tank. If I extend the light with aluminum foil or metal sheeting I can spotlight the tank below. I was also toying with the idea of an acrylic hood...wood is ok, but it seems -- sooo -- 2002. A permanently affixed acrylic hood...with door buil't in? maybe i fell off my rocker.
  3. Thanks for reading this! I have a cube tank, 24" x 24". My pendant MH has to go ... i need something that blocks excess light from shining around the tank...into my front room and the eyes of little ones. Any ideas about a canopy, or a simple fix? I really like the open top, but the excess light is killing me. Here is a picture when we were setting up also, the front corners are rounded, the back is square.
  4. I'll take those snails...on the bottom of the tank...
  5. How quickly or slowly should I change the KH of my tank? Let's say my KH was 6, how many days/hours should it take me to raise my KH to 10?
  6. Maybe Xenia...or Monti Cap...or Valera...or green slimer... IMPOSSIBLE!(wife)
  7. good info Steve. Are you running a Aquacontroller?
  8. very nice LED setup. Like many others I am wanting to experiment with these on a frag tank...or nano. Can you provide a little insight into the wiring of the lights? Are there ballasts?
  9. Those look really nice. How hard will the wiring be? Would you wire these to a plug, or a power source? Maybe a little intense for moonlight, but for an actinic glow on a daylight cycle...nice!
  10. correct! sorry, no prize.DOH!
  11. What famous author owns Two Little Fishies, Inc. ?
  12. J. Sprung has some nice books...
  13. 1 1/2" is the ID(inside diameter) Larger seems better...
  14. the bulkhead is 1 1/2", but the return is only 1"...or 3/4" not sure which. There is a strainer on the inlet.
  15. I've got a Gen-X 30 on my 48 gallon, which does around 550gph. I am thinking about adding more GPH...I'm thinking 1000 gph would be a better circulation.
  16. Where do you plan on going? I've only been to a couple since I moved to Portland...
  17. ok, will work on picture soon. it is just a basic 1 1/2" bulkhead that has a L shaped PVC on the back of the tank...
  18. I recently added about 1/2" of sand to my existing sand bed and I think it was just too much...I should probably spread the addition out over a few weeks...I need to add about 2", but i think you are right, the critters may suffocate.
  19. Is there something people should be forewardned about when it comes to adding Dead sand on top of a Live sand bed? Will the population fro below just migrate upward?
  20. Steve, thanks again for hosting the event...this was my first event. Your tank is obviously super great. Thanks also for the demo on cutting rock and making plugs out of LR. "frag disks suck!" good food, met some great knowledgeable people and got some sweet frags...and a new membership to PNWMAS...using my discount card sounds awesome. So, thanks again Steve and all those involved in hosting this thing. *I have an idea* that was your warning - maybe, put some sort of identifying sign outside of the meeting place...that way people know where it is, and neighbors don't think twice about the people bringing ziplock baggies loaded with macro's out to their cars...DOH!
