Seeing as though we live in the Pacific NW, I am very curious about starting a cold water reef... I found a Marineland ML-24 FL that is 110 gallons and has a working thermometer, chiller and circulation pump...for a real good price. Anyone ever tried something like this? If I don't but this thing, it seems like great deal...PM me if you are interested.

Looking for some tips in reducing Nitrates in the long run...and phosphate. I have done water changes with RO water, but my No3 remains at .10. Can I add a dual chamber reactor to reduce Nitrates and Phosphates?

Very interesting experiment Rick. I experimented with Halogen bulbs about 8 years ago, but I never tried corals, just macroalgae, which grew incredibly fast. I would imagine that the algae issue has alot to do with the col;or temperature of the bulbs. Daylight bulbs usually produce more algae. It may be wise to re-plumb if you don't want to affect the main tank.

That thing is gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing how you set it all up. I have always wondered, when people set up a new tank in an existing system, does it cause instability to all the water, or does it provide an immediate cycling to the new setup?

does the t5 come in 24"

Tank is 48 gallons with a 30 gallon sump, but the sump is only about 1/3 to 1/2 full...so total volume around 60-64 gallons. No, I will not be using for drinking water.

I'd like to run the actinics before and after the MH's are on...

I have a cube tank that measures 24" x 24" x 20". Currently I'm running one 15,000K 250 Watt SE Halide in a PFO reflector (pendant) I would like to add some actinics to the setup, but I'm lacking a hood...and don't really want one. Does anyone have any suggestions for adding some actinics? thanks in advance.

I've got alot of noise coming from my drain. It is a 1 1/2" bulkhead...any tips on reducing the "gurgling" from the overflow drain? It seems like the noise is coming from the intake, not where the water drains into the sump.

Hey all, name's Isaac and I am new to the board...if you couldn't tell. I was having a discussion with Kirswaters, who mentioned Newberg has hard water. Does anyone know if the extra calcium and magnesium ions found in hard water is beneficial to reef tanks? an RO unit is next in line for me to purchase, if anyone has recommendations as to where I can get a good price on one, please let me know.
