  1. Thanks. I'll just layer all my shrooms towards the bottom, zoas in the middle and the rest towards the top.
  2. I am thinking of going with a 180g instead of a 100-125g tank. Will my Maristar fixture, 750w, be enough light for a 180g tank? It is only 2" deeper than the 125g. Most of what I am into are the softies (love the movement) but I would like to have some birds nest, acropora and my wife really wants a RBTA. Possibly a clam or two also. Thanks, Gene
  3. The AquaC Urchin an in sump skimmer for tanks up to 75gal. It is the model in the link. I was interested in this, but I want the pro model, it handles tanks up to 120gal. http://www.proteinskimmer.com/Product%20Pages/Urchin.htm
  4. I just gave my #1's a vinegar bath and the flow appears to have doubled.
  5. Wow! It was like a sand storm/tsunami! I have so much rock and coral in that little 29g tank I don't know how much water is actually in there. I had it in the top left rear corner and it was way too much flow.
  6. I have been planning on using six #4's in my 100 gal 72x18x18. It seems excessive to me but it is what has been recommended by my lfs. Thought about trying one of them in me 29g but I have been worried about too much flow.
  7. I have two #1's in there now. It just seems like there are some dead spots.
  8. I got it on Monday, so I don't know about the condition. It doe appear to have small polyps. It is a hard coral but not so hard that it is brittle. The side that you see, seems to be the top side? The other side has a little algae build up. As you can see ther are tiny little "pores" all over it, including the side you can't see. It reminds me of a frail looking hand reaching for the surface.
  9. Everything is back under control again. I adjusted the flow and now the skimate is much thicker now. Much more foam and less water. Thanks for all the help. Gene
  10. Would it create too much flow if I replaced one of my Koralia 1's with a 4?
  11. I bought some coral from Prada and he threw in some things. Can anyone identify this? Thanks for the help, Gene
  12. Mine are on the bottom of a 75g tank with 6x54w T5 TEK light. They have gone from 10 polyps to 25+ polyps. You said that you have PC lights, they should be fine under those. Just increase the flow. Eric- did you melt down that last polyp I brought you too? Jody, glad to see that yours are doing well. That pic looks great! dsoz __________________ chemistry teachers put the cation in education. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last edited by dsoz; 07-27-2009 at 08:56 AM. I have two Koralia 1's for flow. Would there be too much flow if I swapped out one of the 1's for a 4?
  13. The calcium test kit is an Aquariun Pharm kit. I use Seachem salt mix and the calcium level has always been 480-500. Of course until now, I have never really had anything that eats up calcium. Mostly just softies.
  14. Thanks for the good news on the Acro! I thoroughly cleaned the pump/venturi within the last week. The air inlet is functioning. I dialed the water level back a little and the skimate is quite a bit drier now. After I cleaned it a few days ago it cycled through a few cups then it was fine. I guess the skimate always has been a bit on the wet side but the last couple of days have been nuts.
  15. Yea, it draws air, at least it makes enough noise to be working correctly.
  16. The pieces I added from Brandon are two stalks of Frog Spawn, 3-4 pieces of Acropora, about 20 brown/green palys and a half dozen mushrooms on rock. I wouldn't think any of that would cause it, but this my first experience with Acropora. I don't know if it is normal, but the Acro's polyps have been open for most of the day and I just put them in last night. That is a good sign I hope. They did slime up a bit though when I glued them to some pucks.
  17. The only thing I have done is add some things from I got from Prada. Alkalinity 200+ Calcium 480-500 PH 8.2-8.3 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10-20ppm Ammonia 0 Salinity 1.024 All these levels are the norm for my tank. When I empty the skimmer cup and turn it back on, it fills right back up. I have been moving things around trying to place the things from Brandon but nothing else. I have a Magnum hang on canister filter. Would it help if I load it up with carbon and run it for a while? Thanks, Gene
  18. Yes, but the blue in mine isn't as intense. I might not have as much actinic. The pics of mine are in post #7.
