  1. I decided on the 72" Maristar fixture with 14k Phoenix and Giesemann Actinic+ bulbs. Never having used Metal Halides before, I don't know much about ballasts. Which is better, Blue Wave 3 or Galaxy and why? Which will be more reliable and at the same time provide the most light? Thanks, Gene
  2. I found the Aquactinics 72" Constellation HO T5 Aquarium Light while looking for lights. Does anyone have this fixture or know someone who does? Does 14x39w HOT5's over my 100g 72x18x18 sounds like it would be a good amount of light or would the Maristar fixture be better? HOT5 vs MH/HOT5. The only thing that is slowing me down on the aquatinics fixture is the $308 for the bulbs. I would use all Giesemann, 4 Actinic+ and 10 Aquablue+.
  3. Yes it would be nice for it to be fixed rather than having to downgrade to an older version. My intention of the post was just a quick fix and not to be rude. Sorry if it came over that way.
  4. Just uninstal IE8. Several portions of my work site don't work with IE8 but do just fine with IE7. When I first joined this forum I also had IE8. I could not see most pics, even the pics I uploaded. Uninstalled IE8 and everything is groovy.
  5. First of, thanks to all for replying. The only Prebuilt hood that I can find (still in production) running 250w MH is the Maristar unit with 3x250w MH and I believe 4x39w HO T5 bulbs. I could use the stand alone units like they have at Sunlight Supply and figure something out for actinic later. I priced the different options at Sunlight Supply using thier priceing and the hanging reflectors actually cost more. Are the SS reflectors good? Are there better ones out there?
  6. I am also having a hard time deciding on 150w, 175w or 250w fixtures. the tank is only 18" deep and I don't want to burn anything. Prebuilt hoods will have HO t-5 atinics built in where stand alone MH fixtures will not. Would I miss the atinic lighting if I went that way? New tank is a 100g AGA 72x18x18.
  7. Trying to decide how to light my new tank. Which is better, SE or DE MH bulbs. Gene
  8. I have been trying to figure out what to do for a stand for my 72x18x18 AGA tank. This just might be the way to go because of the short height of my tank. I could adjust the height of the stand to make it more comfortable to view the tank. The 28-30" high AGA stand just seems too short for a 18" high tank.
  9. Thanks. I really like the softies, some of them give alot of motion to the tank. I have a 100g 72x18x18 I am going to upgrade to and I am planning to move everything over to it. I know my Foxface will like the extra elbow room.
  10. I think they are red people eaters. Lately the tendrils on some of them have swollen. I bought the piece for the plate coral that is on it and they were kind of hitchhiking. All around the plate coral where their tendrils touch, they seem to be burned back.
  11. Thanks. I have had a lot of help/advice from Travis at Liquid Sunshine.
  12. Can they be used with any brand reflector, like sunlight supply, or just PFO?
  13. Thanks. So far it has been far easier than I expected. The hardest part is just being patient.
  14. Here are some pics of my 29g newby tank.
  15. Which is better, single or double ended?
  16. Thanks to all for the warm welcome.
  17. I thought about that one, but 750 watts on a 18" deep tank? Would my mushrooms and other softies survive that much light?
  18. Everything from all the softies I have to the LPS/SPS I don't have.
