  1. I glued my first and only frag on a peice of LR next to the glass and over time and alot of harvesting, virtually all of my Xenia is on the glass. It covers about a 9"x12" section of glass in the back. It has grown quite a bit since this pic was taken.
  2. I got a couple of Fire Scallops at Albany's Amazing Aquarium today. Is there anything special I need to do to care for these guys?
  3. Thanks for the info! I think I found the same page, but you condensed it down quite a bit. They are in a 10g now with airstones going. The LFS said to feed egg yolk so that is covered. Thanks again.
  4. I am working the Albany local switcher for a couple of weeks so I sought out an LFS and I found Albany's Amazing Aquarium. Today I decided to get some cleaners and a couple of fire scallops. They gave me a bag of brine shrimp which is way more than a weeks worth of food. How do I take care of them? What do they need other than water, light, food and an air wand? Thanks, Gene
  5. I feed mine a half a sheet of red seaweed a day plus he eats everything else that is fed to the tank.
  6. Thanks to all for the replies. Unless a big chunk of money pops up out of no where I am going to use the 72" 100gallon tank I already have. I was worried that 750 watts was going to be too much for a 18" tall tank but not so much anymore. That will free up money for all of the equipment that I still need. Thanks again, Gene
  7. I found a new 125g TruVu center flow tank and stand plus sump and plumbing for $550. He says it is 72x24x18, doesn't that equal 135g? Blowsbubbles is selling his used 180g AGA dual overflow tank (says it is about a year old), stand, sump and plumbing for $600. I have never had an acrylic tank before and I know they scratch easier, are lighter and insulate better. Will MH lighting warp the acrylic? It has a wide strap in the center. I have room for either one. If it was your decision, what would you do?
  8. Couldn't find much info about the UVLs, so the Current 10000k's are on the way. They have been the only bulb I have used so far and the results have been good.
  9. They are glued in place. After looking at them, night and day, they both have pe. The smaller piece just has longer polyps. I just ordered new bulbs which were overdue any way, so hopefully that will help. The new bulbs will be all 10k instead of 67/10k.
  10. Other than just actinic, If UVL's claims are true, UVL's 14k 75.25 would be the bluest I think?(scratch) If I could find someone who has some positive experience with the UVL 12k or 14k bulbs I would pull the trigger on the 12k's. If not, I am going to stay with the 10k SunPaq's.
  11. I guess thats one vote for staying with Current USA SunPaq's.
  12. What little I have been able to find out about the UVL bulbs is as follows: The 12k bulbs are a mix of 50% actinic 03 & 50% Tri-Band Phosphor , 14k is a mix of 75% Actinic 03 & 25% Tri-Band Phosphor. UVL claims they have a useful life span of 4500 hours. So that means 375 days at 12 hours a day? That is all I have found out so far. I have been using a 24w Giesemann Actinic+ to supplement the PC bulbs. I guess I wouldn't have to anymore if the UVL's did the job.
  13. It is time to change my PC bulbs and I am not sure what to get. When I bought my CUSA 130w PC fixture I didn't know anything about reef lighting. If I had, I would have gone MH instead. Now I have been running CUSA's SmartPaq 6700/10000k bulbs and I really don't like the yellow light they give. I was going to order CUSA's SunPaq 10000k bulb, but I found UVL 12000k bulbs. They also have a 75.25 14000k bulb. It seem like it might be alittle too blue but I have never seen them. You can see what I have for live stock/corals in my signature. What do you think? I don't know anything about UVL. Can someone help with some info on UVL or should I just stick with the CUSA SunPaq's? Please enlighten me if you know of a better bulb. Thanks, Gene
  14. Does your RBTA get enough light inside the pot?
  15. Thanks. They are getting decent flow now, about as good as two K1's can give. The smaller piece has just always done better than the larger one. I also noticed the larger one is turning white on the backside that does not get as much light. I have been feeding RN Phyto feast, Oyster feast and Roti feast.
  16. Thanks fellas. I guess I will have to get my blades and Aptasia-X out. I don't want to lose my Zoas. They started from about 4-5 polyps.
  17. Thanks. He want $150 for the skimmer and 160 for the reactor.
  18. I was worried about stressing everybody out. I don't think the difference in height would have helped the fox face much anyway. Thanks.
  19. I haven't looked at anything with the red light in a while. I have probably had them for about a month now.
  20. It will have 3x250w Ushio 10k's powered by Blue Wave 3 Ballasts and 4x39w Giesemann Actinic+ T5HO's. I chose the 10k's for maximum growth. I don't want to have to hang it so high above the tank that an excessive amount of light will spill out into our living room.
  21. Like the title says, are the PCI RPS 2000 Skimmer and MRC CR-1 Calcium Reactor good pieces of equipment? I am thinking about buying them from Blowsbubbles along with his 180 gal setup. I don't know anything about them and I figured I could get honest opinions here from real use experience rather than what the store or manufacturer thinks I want to hear. Thanks, Gene
  22. The 29g has been running close to a year and a half now. I was going to add a couple of pieces of base rock to boost certain pieces toward the surface. I was thinking about doing this for my foxface because he eats like a horse and seems like he is growing. I am hoping to upgrade within the next 6 months or less. I am selling allot of high end ho scale model RR equipment and a new 14" delta band saw so I can do it. I have a 100 gal 72x18x18 tank in the garage but I am afraid that my Maristar fixture is going to be too much light for it. I have been thinking about buying Blowsbubbles 180gal setup plus his PCI RPS 2000 skimmer and MRC CR-1 calcium reactor instead. If I stay with the 100g it will be much sooner.
  23. I have a tall marineland 37gal (same footprint as 29gal) that I am thinking about using until I upgrade to a much larger tank. Would the extra 8gal of water and height be worth stressing my tank out for? Would I be able to just move everything straight over and add 8gal of sw without any problems? Thanks.
