  1. No, that was my hand. I ended up losing my left thumb. All from the bite of a Wolfus spiderius! I had the doctors remove my right thumb also, so I could have matching hands, but now I don't have a date for Saturday nights!!
  2. Good thought...must have "water" circuit loop. Air "pockets" can create blockages.
  3. you shouldn't have to dry fire it unless you have too much back pressure, which again, (I hear you) would mean something is closed somewhere and should be open.
  4. Sounds like you got a valve shut somewhere. Are all your valves open? (scratch)
  5. Rule #1 with anemones--leave them alone. I have burned up alot of money "positioning" them, only to have them move. Then I would "reposition" them. Then they would move again to a lousier place. Remember, they have to sun bath and feed and they will shrink and expand, pull in then open up. Bottom line is they know better where they will do best than we do (except powerhead intakes!!) Rule #2--Follow Rule #1!!
  6. Photos coming tomorrow...camera at work(nutty)
  7. Just a great observation, folks. I happen to be one of those people who works hard and often never gets a break. I am not a whiner. It just happens to be the truth. Anyway, figured I'd give modding my skimmer impeller a try, as I've heard so much about it. What a difference! In 24 hours, a clean collection cup covered with sludge, dark green skimmate, full container of small, brown bubbles...chamber looks like an LA street riot...micro bubbles almost too small to be seen rising...cone is black with collected debris. Never knew crap could make me sooooo happy!! I also figured I'd try my own method as many samples I've seen looked rough. Be happy to share method for amyone who is interested... Yippee!!(clap)

    Vodka Dosing???

Started dosing yesterday...of course, way too early to tell...but will keep all updated.
  9. That is a Wolfus spiderius...yes, I am quite sure! You can tell by the eyes. That, my friends, is the most venomous spider on earth! Right here in the Pacific Northwest, no less!
  10. try meshmod.net... I got mine in 2 days!!! Fast, quick easy and cheap!!
  11. I'll take the shroom rock for $20, Alex...HahA!! tOTAL $25...Bryan
  12. Try meshmod.net (clap)
  13. Help me understand...(scratch)
  14. I'll take the green star (small rock) in the middle--$10 and xenia rock --$5(clap)
  15. Put a powerhead in the strawberry basket...that will attract it!! He He(laugh)
  16. I always turned my skimmer back on when I did my water change and put carbon in...48 hours after adding chemiclean...Once you do water change, consider "treatment" over, despite residual left in tank...be aware skimmer will go crazy for 24 hours at least, foaming like a rabid dog...Good luck
  17. I have used Chemclean a few times...did lose a 12 inch long tentacled anemone once and have noticed anemones shrink up and don't appreciate treatments. Must follow directions closely. Something sounds a foul in your tank...are you missing any creatures? Good luck!
  18. Perry--I'm a veternarian. I was actually in your shop about 2 months ago and picked up a couple zoas. What seems to be the problem? Dr. Merle--coralreefer(scratch)
  19. I've owned 2 blue throats in the last 5 years. They both were "healthy" (evidently not) and were eating fine and then died unexpectedly overnight. I did not own them simultaneously. Having said that, they were both very well mannered and not once did I see them bother fire shrimps, cleaner shrimps, coral (hard or soft), snails or crabs. They loved mysis and krill. While I'm not in the market, I would own one again in my 135 reef. Yes, 90 would be big enough, IMHO(clap).
  20. I think with Ecotechs, less is more. They are based more on wave generation dynamics than combined forces.(scratch) IMO, two should be plenty.
  21. The things that helped me... 1) Never underestimate need to change bulbs regularly! 2) Never underestimate how many snails/crabs you should have in your tank! 3) Never underestimate the need for VERY good circulation! 4) Never underestimate the benefit of nutrient export (skimmer, water changes)! 5) Do not overfeed! Most importantly...do not allow yourself to STRESS over hair algae!! It happens in the best of tanks. I used to get bent out of shape when I'd get an outbreak...For some reason, frustration seems to make hair algae grow faster!!(nono) Good luck!
  22. I am a reefer AND a vet. Have you signed up for CareCredit? My clients use it ALOT. allows you to make no or low interest payments based on what YOU want to pay back per month...$40, $50 $100 per month. Really depends on the type of fracture and other issues facing dog as to how much total bill would run. CareCredit has much laxer credit requirements based on the fact it is a medical revolving credit line. Let me know if I can help...
