  1. Hey, some of those frags look very familiar... Merle
  2. Minature tiger coelacanth...only 2 are known to exist in the world...once thought to be extinct...you've discovered one...worth a million bucks...lets discuss my finder's fee...DrMerle
  3. B--your corals aren't up to speed yet...they were in your tank...they were in my tank....they are in your tank....a majority of them are probably catching their breath and will resume going back to normal color and fast growing after they destress...may be another 6 weeks before they start sucking the calcium down again...be patient... Merle
  4. Be careful--"any" pad may scratch, especially depending on whether acrylic or glass tank...almost any LFS should carry pads you are looking for... DrMerle
  5. I am interested in having a custom sump built. Does anybody know someone local who does that? DrMerle
  6. [language filter] B--nice tank!! nice shots!! nice fish!! You already got an awesome setup! Things are just gonna grow like gangbusters!! Glad your corals survived! Merle
  7. +1 on UV...I have had too many cases of ich over the years with every known treatment regiment known...I firmly believe, while each case will vary due to health of tank and inhabitants, UV sterilizer is the single best chance at tank reduction numbers. Remember, ich is present at all times...immune systems keep it reduced and undercontrol until stress allows proliferation. UV kills proliferative stage... DrMerle
  8. Here is part of the problem...buckets settle, with separation of calcium granules, from salt granules etc, etc, etc...the water made from the top of your bucket may show different parameters than that from the bottom...regardless, I think it is important not to "just except" new batches of water change water are going to be spot on with their parameters. My recommendation for everyone is test--every batch, everytime...you will catch off batches before they go into your tank and you start to adjust other practices later that were not a problem to begin with... Do your tank a favor...do regular water changes!!! DrMerle
  9. Thanks everyone for advice...I am going to pick through my connections again Thursday and see what I can do to retry and get original float system to work...I am still interested in Mark's setup... DrMerle
  10. I used to use Reef Crystals...now I use gettanked salt #2... DrMerle
  11. ccr--in the diagram, don't they have the blue tubes reversed at the aso valve? why would water coming in to the valve from ro membrane go into the "out" connection...that leaves water leaving to be coming out the "in" side...doesn't make sense...maybe that is my problem!@#$%^&*(!!!! DrMerle
  12. chewie--I have tried 2 of these from brs...neither worked...I have triple checked that I had them installed correctly...plus, there is the issue of TDS creep, with RO-DI unit flowing off and on... DrMerle
  13. Mark--what are you saying? You've got another setup I could buy from you...I just add mounting brackets and I'm in? DrMerle
  14. So Mark...clue me in...that is what I am looking for....dual floats with solenoid between faucet and RO unit...what kind of setup is it? DrMerle
  15. I have in my garage, a sink with RO-DI hooked up to it, which runs to a 50 gallon plastic reservoir barrel. Water from that I pump under house and up to my fish tank as topoff. That is on a timer. What I need is a system to shut off RO-DI when reservoir barrel gets full. If I forget to shut off faucet feeding RO-DI, my barrel overflows and garage gets real wet. I've tried 2 different ATO back pressure valves from BULKREEFSUPPLY and neither seemed to shut off...I watched their videos and made sure I was connecting correctly. What I want is a solenoid on the line going from sink faucet to RO-DI, that is activated electrically. I don't understand what is supposed to trigger the solenoid to close and stop water flow...is there an electrical float valve out there that sends message to solenoid to close? Is there such a thing as electrical float valve?. Strictly back pressure closure valves I have not been impressed with...help!! DrMerle
  16. I'll take Volume 1 Reef Aquarium...pm me...
  17. I think I would dose this tank with chemi-clean and look at 3 days with no lights on. Treat with chemi-clean...Watch your O2 level...turn off skimmer for 48 hours...will foam like crazy when you turn it back on....watch your pH level...take out any carbon...do a water change when you turn skimmer back on... definitely looks like cyano and dinos... DrMerle
  18. One is probably cyano (red) and the second, while I can't make out well from photos, if there are any bubbles, may be dinoflaggelates...can you do brighter, closer shots? DrMerle
  19. B--It made it...obviously it didn't arrive busted!! Congrats...! Corals are in and opening and bathing...Your giant green acro lost a 3" arm, but all else is well...I'll mount the arm... How are you going to pick that tank up with water in it? Just couldn't wait...OK, get it cycled and we'll get your babies back to you... DrMerle(rock2)
  20. Thanks finch...just glad I could help...hope your corals do well in my care...(clap) DrMerle
  21. Dennis--I've got some I will give you...I've got like a 4x4 or 5x5 piece...would that work...it is enkamat flatback....DrMerle
  22. Anybody have Wild Pacific recorded or downloaded on computer? I have been unable to locate it online and am unsure when it will air, if ever again.(scratch) DrMerle
  23. I guess I'm just Mr. Unlucky... In 5 years... Berghia x 10--ZERO effect on aiptasia Copperband Butterfly X 2--No interest in aiptasia Peppermint shrimp x 40--they wobble but no interest in aiptasia Joe's Juice x 20 boxes--"kills" aiptasia? Seems to for 3 days then the same (NOT NEW) bugger comes back...DOES NOT WORK...IT IS ILLUSION! Kalk--same as Joe's Juice Aiptasia X--Beginning to believe also illusion-- Drano--not convinced... Purchased a Klein's Butterfly yesterday...we will see... I am mixing up kalk/drano/aiptasiaX mixture tomorrow..may work...may blowup! Have not tried lemon juice...have not tried boiling water...
