  1. Brad--I'd stop right there with the family room... Leave Nickie wanting more.... DrMerle
  2. Anybody have a roto-tiller that I could borrow the weekend of April 16th/17th for yearly garden? Just turning over previous year's garden...no hard pan or packed soil work...I promise to be gentle... DrMerle
  3. Of course you know, someone with a PhD indeed can be called "Dr.".... AND.....how about trusting "DrMerle"?... DrMerle
  4. Take the concrete brick out of the sump...water changes never will help if sand bed is nitrate trap...I had a denitrator...will work...however, using vodka/sugar/vinegar and MB7 will allow you to use your whole tank as a denitrator (a good thing)...In creasing flow, reducing fish load, reducing feeding, increasing clean up crew, biopellets, all good ideas....but again, if tank is being "abused" by overfeeding and over"fishing", nothing will help long term...I was an abuser...had to finally resort to tear down and get rid of rock and sand... 5. B--LET ME CHECK SOMETHING...i MIGHT BE INTERESTED.... Merle
  6. Probably my favorite angel...Alas, couldn't put up with the coral nipping (I'm being kind)....captured finally and back to the LFS it went...hopefully, you'll not have the same issues... DrMerle
  7. Not something I would enjoy...1) Gotta go outside to enjoy it 2) only get to see it from top down 3) trash, leaves (etc) always ready to contaminate it 4) would actually need to get in it alot (I would think) to clean or work on things...if it had a basement "window" that looked in on it that might make it more appealing.... It is amazing but for me, not in a good way.... Don't mean to be so negative but alot of what I enjoy about this hobby is lost in that... DrMerle
  8. I've seen the scratch in person....I would have pointed it out but was hoping to get free corals(never did), so I'm pointing it out now!!!! What a scratch!!! I mean, I've seen some scratches in my time, but nothing compares to the scratch that I didn't point out at the time. Does the Grand Canyon ring a bell? That only about half as deep and dramatic as the scratch I've seen in your tank....what a scratch!! I mean, a person could get lost in that scratch and not be found for weeks!!! May not have bothered you but it bothered me....badly!!!!! LOL...sorry.....I had to do that...never saw a scratch!!! DrMerle
  9. Backing out of group buy...another opportunity has arisen...wanted to let you know ASAP...sorry... DrMerle

  17. Does that include sump minus rocks? Sounds like too much depending how often you are doing it and how healthy your tank is, how much you feed and what you feed. The heavier you feed and more livestock, the bigger I would make the water change. Good rule of thumb is 5-10% weekly...many people don't do that much monthly...some never. 25% is too big a change unless you are fighting nitrates. Being consistent is the key. DrMerle
  18. Sorry--in all seriousness, the simpliest way to fix it is use this: DrMerle
  19. I always use these: and remember, friends never let friends use these: By the way, Miles...I'm looking for corals that look like this-- do you have any? DrMerle
  20. Miles, get real....that one won't work unless you connect it to this: DrMerle
  21. I feel sorry for your family...their life will never be the same... DrMerle
  22. Everyone's answer will be slightly different but my tank has enough return flow that when the water level rises in my sock to near overflowing (over the edge of the sock)I change it out...that usually is 2-3 days...that means enough "stuff" has collected on the inside walls of the sock to restrict water flow thru...
