  1. Hey if this happens, count me in! I don't have anything large enough to frag, but I'd like to come and watch anyhow.
  2. If I didn't already have an FIV+ cat in the house I'd love to take him! He's cute!
  3. Thanks guys! It was a really fun event. Delilah is the first dog that I've trained for agility, and she deserves a hero sticker on her forehead. Some dogs are just special and, at least to me, Delilah is one of the super ones.
  4. This last weekend I competed at an agility trial with my 3 year old chihuahua/rat terrier "Delilah." D is a rock star and did really well. She is such an honest dog that even when I mess up handling her, she still pulls through for me. What a trooper! We walked away from the weekend with 3 first places, 1 second, and 3 qualifying scores. Yay for her!
  5. Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to second the thumbs down on Liquid Sunshine. I was thinking about heading down to Eugene for a while last weekend, and wanted to stop in. I've heard that LS's hours can be a little sketchy, so I wanted to call first before wasting gas to find the place. I left 2 messages and no one ever called me back. Sad. I like to support the local stores, but customer service is usually why I make that choice. LS has fallen short of that.
  6. I completely agree! I would rather pay quite a bit more for something and support a business that I feel is doing the best job instead of throwing my money into some sort of corporate scheme where they don't even know what they're selling to me. I like the support that I get by buying from a reputable shop. Seeing as I'm new at this, that is invaluable to me and more than worth the extra couple of bucks. I will definitely make a few phone calls today. What do you guys think of the composition of my prospective CUC? Enough for a 15.5? too much? Should I get different species? Thanks again! Benny, I will likely be coming up in the morning as I have to be back in Corvallis by 4. If you'd like to hit up some stores together, go ahead and PM me. I'll check back tonight. Anyone else from Corvallis that wants to go up to Portland stores is welcome. I have space for 4 adults in my car. Let me know via PM!
  7. This really is a great set-up! I went to see it, and it wouldn't fit in my car! Wow! Cyenna accurately represented it, I just didn't read the dimensions of the stand and unfortunately it won't fit in my house. Awesome deal for someone who would like to start up a nano!
  8. Hey folks! So my tank has finally cycled!! Woot! Now its time for the CUC, and of course my LFS doesn't have anything! They only have turbo snails, and I'm not interested in putting those monsters in my tank (its only a 15.5). Here's my concept so far, please tell me what you think.... 4 nassarius 3 trochus 3 cerith 2 scarlet hermits 1 blue leg hermit In addition, does anyone have an idea of who would have these guys currently? I'm a little wary about ordering online and would much rather pick up at a store. I can definitely make the drive to Portland on Saturday if necessary, but I don't know where to go. I'd love to head over to coral reef, but Jason is in the middle of his move and its tough to get hold of him right now. Any help is greatly appreciated!
  9. And that is the logic behind "there's always another tank...." There's always more space......just gotta set up another spot! hehe I'm planning to take things really slow with this set-up. I currently have just the one mushroom, some yellow colony polyps, and a hermit crab in there. I think I'm going to add 2 more hermits and some snails this week, then let everything settle out for a few weeks. I really want some zoas and a ricordea next.
  10. I recently got a 7 gallon sump from this member, and it is awesome! Not only did he drop everything at the last second to run to another house and grab the sump when I called out of the blue, but he helped me find myself when I got all sorts of confused on directions. In addition, I was admiring the yellow colony polyps in the tank, and without a second thought he reached in and busted me off a chunk to take home. Thank you so much for a great experience Chris! The polyps are doing great, even the one that got a little smashed is making a come-back! You're awesome and I hope you enjoy your vacation!
  11. If anyone from Corvallis area wants to go, I'd love to drive up and it'd be nice to carpool. I can fit 4 adults comfortably in my car. Any takers, just PM me!
  12. Awesome tank! I love your blue zoas. What kind of camera is that? Nice shots!
  13. I bought a 16" sunpod after I measured the top of my tank. With the legs it should fit perfectly. Now I just have to figure out how to remove the existing top without A. breaking it, or B. sloshing water all over my bedroom carpet. I had a minor scare last night, I heard a clicking coming from the general vicinity of the tank! (scary) I started having nightmares of a mantis shrimp, so I took my handy dandy flash light over to have a look. Turns out it was just my dog crunching on a dried out bone. *phew*
  14. As promised, here's the photos of the new scape. I think its still going to be changing a little as my "hitch-hiker" isn't going to like that location when I upgrade to metal halide (70w sunpod is in the mail....(dancing)). Either way, sweetest hitch-hiker EVER (granted, these rocks came from an established tank....but I like it better that way! More cool stuff, less bad stuff).
  15. Well, as per normal in my world, I got an idea into my head and went with it. I just completely re-did all of my rockwork because I decided to "cull" the piece of LR that had the scary anemone guys on it. Apparently they were spreading a whole lot faster than I expected because I found a few tiny ones on some of the rocks that I ended up leaving in. A few minutes with a butane lighter and they went "snap crackle and pop." Lets hope that the anem problem is over with. The tank looks really different, but I think it'll work out nicely. Thanks a bunch to Jason at coral reef. The rocks are awesome, and you guys are hilarious. I'll have photos up shortly of the new rock-scape and a pretty darned sweet "hitch-hiker."
  16. I don't think they're majano anemones. The tentacles are clear and have a tiny white ball on the tip of them. They are nocturnal and only extend at night. Seems that they're reproducing like bunnies though, so I gotta do something major tonight or tomorrow night. I'm thinking that I might just buy a different piece of LR for the spot that that one has and replace it. In fact, I might do that now.......I don't want them to spread to the other "healthy" pieces.......
  17. So far I really like the koralia nano. I don't have any livestock in there yet though, just LR. It produces a lot of flow and I LOVE the magnet mounting system....super convenient. dsoz, I practically live at NR! I actually just set it as my home page. Its an awesome website. Quick question, looks like I'm having an outbreak of ball anemone in my tank. Its definitely not apitasia, and there's like 8 of them on one rock. Should I Joe's Juice these buggers? Will a peppermint shrimp eat them? Would it be easier to just get rid of the rock? I think I have to do something quick since there's ALOT of them. Thanks for any advice!
  18. My logic with the gsp and xenia was that I could frag them when they started to get too big. I'm still tossing species ideas around, it'll be at least a month before I add any corals. I just saw yellow colony polyps and am interested in learning more about them.... At the risk of sounding like a goober, I'm gonna ask what ozone is? Also, do you have any ideas as to what model protein skimmer would be good for this size tank?
  19. Salt has been claimed. Thanks biomekanic!
  20. I have an unopened bag of pacific coast salt. Looks like its about 10 lbs. I decided to go with the pre-mix from coral reef instead. Anyone who wants it is welcome to it. PM me and let me know!
  21. Sounds good Arson. Thanks a bunch!
  22. Wow dsoz! That's really nice of you to offer, and once my cycle in finished I will absolutely take you up on it! Where are the meetings usually held? I make it up to the OC/Portland area on a semi-frequent basis. I have a few friends up there that I come up to see. It'd be great to meet other marine keepers!
  23. Hey everyone! Like many folks on here I am new to the world of marine aquariums. I kept FW tanks for quite some time, and recently ventured into a reef tank. For my graduation from college I received a 15.5 all-in-one cube made by pacific coast. It has already been a bit of an adventure! Currently the tank is lit by PC bulbs that came stock in the hood. It has about 30 lbs live sand, and about 15 lbs LR. I am not planning to run a skimmer quite yet, and I am waiting to decide if I will run a sump. The configuration of the hood won't allow me to have an overflow box, but if I switch to a sunpod metal halide, then I will be removing the hood anyways and will be adding a sump (maybe a protein skimmer as well). My plan for this tank is to have primarily soft corals, mostly zoanthids and mushrooms. I'd really love to have xenia and GSPs as well. I do not have any plans for fish at this stage, but may be interested in a pair of green banded gobies. That is really far in the future though! I am in the middle of my cycle and am not planning to add animals until late in July. Any suggestions are welcomed. I'm excited to be part of the community here at PNWMAS.
  24. If you still have this sump, I would be interested in coming to get it tomorrow. I have to be in the Salem area and have 3 hours to kill. Please let me know if you still have it.
  25. My tank is still cycling, but when its ready for livestock, I'd be interested in some zoos and/or mushrooms. I anticipate about 3 weeks more though. If you still have these critters then, I'll PM you.
