  1. ive done that in the past, cut the clam mantle out, scrapped the top surface and then cultivated the zoo. in 2 liter pop bottles. Some of you may remember Ryan Gent from Tacoma, he and I both did a lot of work on getting clams to spawn and settle out in the mid 90's
  2. Welcome aboard, have a great time! All newbies have to scrub the deck
  3. Howdy Enjoy yourself, lots of knowledgeable people on here
  4. an old trick is to use a pan on the floor with water and liquid dish soap and put a bright lamp down close to it. The lamp heat attracts the fleas and when they jump in the water, the soap helps break the surface tension so they end up drowning
  5. haha, yup, if you want to check it out in person just let me know. ill be happy to give the tank tour
  6. you could also do the non-photosynthetic corals, sun corals, maybe a small dendrophyllia, or gorgonian
  7. Sounds like what it has is ok, how deep is the tank? If it is 30" tall or less the 250w halides will work fine. You will just have to build the rock structure up closer to the surface. You could also supplement with 2 400w halides on each end.
  8. Here are some shots of the acans i have so you can see what im talking about... Red acan [/url] Purple and green acan bleached out rainbow (it did come back nicely) orange crush acan acan ??? or favia not sure 3 different acan colors hot pink and red, two different shots Roy
  9. i found out after keeping many acans that the purple color tends to fade in bright light, but will stay dark purple if the coral is kept in the indirect light, ie: partial under a ledge. Red and green acans if given a lot of light will turn more pink with light green stripes I've had two rainbow acans turn from their original color to hot pink with deep red centers, which also looks very cool. this was about 12" from a 250w halide. Green acan with white stripes and purple centers turned into green acan with orange stripes and purple centers. this was 12" from pc lighting. I think i have only had one acan that stayed it's original color the rest have changed, but it has always been for the good
  10. I knew my old hood would work great for ya Benny looks sweet!
  11. looks awesome benny keep up the good work! Upload some pics with the new sunpod lighting, oh and your welcome for the corals and light hood Roy
  12. Looks great, nice selection of corals you got going there. Will have to bring you over to the light side and convert you to halides Roy
  13. Hi Guys I got my rainbow montipora listed over at zoaid.com Here is the web address http://www.coralpedia.com/index.php?module=Gallery2&g2_itemId=6128 That website is great to check out your zoa's, corals, for the funky names they have. I remember when i first started in this hobby the corals didn't have any kind of "fancy name" It was a blue acropora, or an orange montipora, not blue berry tort spinner acropora, or flaming orange fire montipora... btw im trade marking those names for later (laugh) Roy

  18. Ok i have had the skimmer up and running for 3 days now and here is a break down 1) The skimmer is extremely quiet, the only thing i hear are the bubbles popping. 2) They have got rid of that bracket design and have made it so you use a magnet to hold the skimmer against the aquarium wall. Very nice 3) The skimmer produces a fair amount of foam, i wish it was more toward micro bubbles, but still good foam production. 4) Removal of the skimmer cup for cleaning and emptying is very easy, just pull straight up, there is a long tube that goes down into the skimmer that is part of the collection cup 5) Price is a bit high, around 150.00 for a small skimmer rated up to 52 gallons 6) Fits perfect in the back sump area of a 24 gallon aquapod Any more questions just let me know Roy
  19. You forgot Scott from Reef Corals out of Beaverton and AWexotics out of california
  20. Hey Frank It was nice meeting you and i enjoyed talking about the old days of reefing back when "gateway bob" was in business Roy
  21. Did none of you stop by the Reef Corals booth? I saw all the other booths mentioned. Reef Corals did have the largest selection of corals out of the entire show, plus lots of small colonies. I know i had to bag them all! lol
  22. When you shop for homes looking for a good spot to do an in-wall HAHA im doing that right now! also must have heat / ac pump hehe Plus would be bonus if said wall was attached to garage on other side
