  1. what tank(s) will you be selling? Moving a few weeks from now myself, hoping to set up a tank in the new place so I can slowly transfer things instead of trying to haul animals, sand, rock and glass the same day
  2. Yes, they are both here. Just noticed some PM's, haven't used this new version of the site before, sorry I missed you guys. Will check in tomorrow after work.
  3. need to rehome 2 large turbos, not sure I can locate both today. These are large and strong enough to break the tips off my SPS and block an overflow. Suitable for softie tanks, just not SPS safe, or for a tank without dual overflows. Located close to the Foster and I-205 intersection in SE Portland. Also have some free purple plating/branching montipora 1-2" pieces and unattached neon green sinularia to whoever takes the snail(s). Hoping you don't use them for fish food, have had them for years and they are great tank cleaners. My "cleaning crew" has to date been one of these per tank. And allegedly one hermit, which I see maybe once a year.
  4. potential wrinkle is I caught a cold with sore throat. Hoping it gets better, if worse I may be too dizzy. laying low tonight and hoping a good 12 hour sleep will make it go away. I try to not aggravate the ex, he's footing the bills and I don't really want to involve lawyers in that whole divorce thing if we can stay cool, hoping an amicable split will work til I get done with school and employed. That and his GF could dump beer in the tank or something (: Moving the water would be awesome, tank is in the basement and window is awkward so may not be feasible. Would save me some money on salt. On the other hand I have water here already and that tank has been seriously neglected so that water is kinda lame chemistry wise. If you are up for moving it I got plenty of frags for you, let me know in the morning. number is 503 999 8421. Thanks, Kate
  5. thinking around 2? 3? somewhere in there. gotta give the ex and his girlfriend a chance to wake up before I show (:
  6. I think I have two offers that are solid and another 3 or 4 that might help so probably good. Goal is saturday mid afternoon... gotta get it done.
  7. I have to move my frag system, it's still at my ex's house... moved out in September. Going over there got old fast. The frag system is 3 tanks and a sump on 2 stands. I need a truck or van without seats as the big stand is 2x2x2 feet cubed. There will also be as many buckets of water as I can take. Can anyone help saturday? I will cut you 7 frags from my big system for you (7 for luck) and you will make my ex, me and new roommates really happy, have to get this done. Old tank is at 74th and Harold SE PDX which is between Woodstock and Foster off the 205 exit. The new place is at 83rd and Tolman between Woodstock and Duke, so 9 whole blocks I moved. Bonus: our neighborhood is no longer scary. The icky people moved out next door. Yay! Just in case you heard me complaining about them. Funny how them being gone changed the entire vibe at home too. I think it's even getting gentrified over here, the artists are moving in and the tweakers are moving out (: Here is the tank the frags would come from, the other tanks have flatworms. It does have cyano though, if that matters. I also could trade a single picasso clown, a medium foxface lo (the kind that is yellow with a black spot near the tail). I have seen some tissue damage on my acros but that happened when I experimented with the LED lights, they could not handle the shadow areas. I don't think anything else is going on. That and the flame angels probably nibble them. "][/url]
  8. You could do sea gooseberries... found them on the beach at Ecola and kept them for a few weeks, but my stupid idea didn't work out, they kept ending up injured. On the plus side they were already on the beach so dying. They would look really cool with LED's on them, and eat tigger pods. It would also be a great little tank for a few dwarf seahorses. If you get bored of it let me know (:
  9. I don't feed my anemones either, the biggest healthiest one get's the least light too. It does have a pair of clowns that probably poop in it and the others probably catch mysid shrimp when I feed the fish. I tried feeding whole shrimp to them and they spit it out later covered in slime, which fouled the tank of course. I don't know if they can eat silversides or shrimp or any large thing and doubt they need to. You say you have multiple sources of anemones, are they all the same species? Are you absolutely sure? Is there any pattern to which color morphs are doing ok and which are not? Here is why I ask and it's just a theory... I think some of the bta's in the hobby are not E quadricolor. I know this is conjecture and possibly misinformation but I have been reading a lot about the tricolor ones as I want to aquaculture them. Some very experienced people had them wither away and die after mixing the different color morphs in the same (small) tank. I know Kim and Beth have a mix in a large tank where they have a choice of where they sit and how far apart, would be interesting to see which morphs are willing to stay next to eachother and thrive over time. I have 3 morphs in a 20 that is plumbed to my frag system and they do not thrive together, do not touch and stay small. My theory is that since some morphs look completely different and are not willing to touch and may even die if they do, that they are not the same species, and that they are hostile to eachother. is there any pattern you can see? I am also wondering this as there are other genuses of anemone that have bubble tips, stay small, and reproduce in tropical aquariums, and nomenclature of aquatic animals keeps changing. Just my 2 cents, probably worthless (:
  10. I think I will wait til someone has a reliable used one available, I will need some guidance in safety and handling, cleaning... they are not going to give me that at Big 5 (: Looking forward to some therapeutic shooting of my textbooks at the end of term, along with other suitable targets such as election signs and those smelly boxes marked free people leave at the side of the road which contain things they should pay you to take. Might also want to shoot my skimmer pump. All the old gear actually.
  11. well I do need to move, this neighborhood is unacceptable. Guess I should not have moved to felony flats. Duh. Still wondering if any landlords in the PDX metro area allow fish tanks, somebody must. But am negotiating to sell all my fishtanks in case I can't find one. Actually adore both my roommates, I just should probably not have moved here. It was a bad decision. We had some friction there for a weekend, yeah, but it turned out to be him being legitimately upset with a situation unrelated to me or the house. On the plus side the bangai cardinals spawned and are holding the eggs properly.
  12. yeah, my ex used to buy new guns at shows, and every time we got to the place we target shoot they would jam immediately. What a deal! He'd have to mail them back to Century Arms after a big hassle and usually they had put the wrong spring in or some dumb thing. No interest in hassles, just want to make boom. (: Thanks for the tips, will check out Big 5 later.
  13. hey, I see guns listed here often... anyone got a reliable beginner friendly shotgun they want to sell or trade for coral? Looking for something I can make loud noises at targets with, not a hunter.
  14. problem is they always ask at the interview what you expect in salary and it has been my habit to ask for very little, not stand up for myself. I know there is a number that is acceptable to them, above which they will not pass, but I often aim lower. It's a bad habit and one I cannot afford at present. I have to hit a certain dollar amount or it is not worth withdrawing from school. I am sure I can fulfill their needs, can they do mine? That is the question. I think the norm for the industry is 10 an hour and I don't think I can live on that with rents the way they are but it is cheaper in Milwaukie... pretty stoked about one aspect. They will need to quickly stock tanks and I need to liquidate mine. So at the very least I can solve that problem. I will keep some frags and ditch these huge colonies, which having already grown them from frags I know will recover. I don't want to cut up such great colonies and sell them piecemeal, is nice to know they and the fish I have which are too large could be rehomed to a very good place.
  15. That aquarium opening in Milwaukie announced that they are going to start accepting resumes, looking for 20 full time employees. No part time allowed. So those of you who are interested... there ya go. They are on facebook and here is the link https://www.facebook.com/portlandaquarium So I am going to apply, anyone else? Anyone know what kind of salary to ask for? I am in the midst of a not so great divorce, discovering college is not for me, and moved into a terrible location, I need a certain wage to be done with these issues and get back on my feet. How much should I ask for? Anyone know what is standard for the industry? I do not have a degree, that will not help. But I can culture things and grow sps in a 55 with only 2 T5HO bulbs over it so that's gotta be worth it. SPS with perfect color too. Also wondering if anyone knows these guys and could give me a reference. Anyone? If anyone is going to work there and move closer to work I will be seeking new housing.
  16. Sorry to post my drama here, roommate situation apparently was a poor choice. If anyone has leads and I don't mean things on craigslist I mean like you know a spot for sure, I am looking for a pet friendly single person apartment preferably in NE PDX as am going to school at PCC Cascade. I did move already once this month but the current situation is rapidly getting weird, so am putting out the bat signal in case something better shows up. Will not take another sorta suitable act of desperation type living situation, am going to take the time if I have it to locate a real pet friendly fairly livable and not sky high rent type living situation. So if you hear of such please let me know. Hoping this is not an emergency forum level of bat signal but it may be. Thanks, Kate
  17. My new tank has a hole drilled in the upper back corners, now I need a couple of these (but hopefully not at 55 bucks each), anyone got some laying around or a tip on a local source? http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/sumps-tanks-refugiums/aquarium-overflow-1200-gph-overflow-box.html Someone should make them mount with magnets so if a fish gets in there or the strainer gets clogged you can easily access the drain. Going to try and glue magnets to mine when I get them.
  18. You know I am in! Slingshot rocks. For those not familiar it's about 20 feet off Foster near where Powell and Foster meet. Across from the gun store, just down from the taxidermist who has antler lamps on sale... always. Sad to report they no longer have air hockey or foosball, now it's just 3 pool tables in the side room. And a bunch of pinball machines.
  19. Taylor/pnkrcklives rocks. He and his girlfriend along with my freshwater friend Rachel Lusby hucked my 55 and dresser to my new place today in all the heat and with all the PITA heavy lifting that entails. Thanks again, I owe you frags galore. If anyone needs freshwater especially plant tank maintenance I can refer you to Rachel, that's what she does. Tried to pay her in frags but she don't do salt. Weirdo. Will fix that at some point (: Kate
  20. I did not hear back from you for a couple days and a couple other people contacted me that they are offering tanks locally, so will have to get back to you. Probably getting a 75 from a guy near me tonight though to be honest. Good luck, hopefully things work out for all of us.
  21. I too am a ponderer and type 70wpm, people often tire of my long posts. One of my favorite books is Plankton Culture Manual. I like geeking on the science behind this hobby. So am on your side too. We can always learn more. Also interested in hearing about iron dosing. Did that for a while, ran out and forgot about it. One of my friends was among the first people to keep flowerpot corals alive, he swore it was the iron dosing that did it.
  22. or we could also try not freaking out over a little algae, as long as it's a little. Beats dinoflagellates by a long shot (: When I have non fish people over they think cyano and valonia are cool. I don't think they are at all cool mind you but I am willing to question my need to totally control that which probably cannot be controlled, and maybe ought to be considered part of the whole system in a normal tank. I'd love to have one of the superclean massively grown SPS tanks I see on forums featured as tank of the month but I accept that I am not willing to spend the time, money and expanded carbon footprint it takes to achieve those results. Diminish my expectations a little and I can relax a lot, and achieve realistic goals. Also read a study that SPS grow faster with phosphate. Scientists were intending to show how fertilizer runoff stunts reefs. Oops. Downside is phosphate enhanced growth produces lighter, less dense and more fragile skeletons. Mushy SPS. So I guess they proved their point in another way... the ocean is too rough for weak skeletons
  23. So the plan is I need to get a tank into this place ASAP, have received PM's from people. Will take Dave's tank as I like that calcium reactor idea, or another guy's tank if I don't hear from dave, but this has to happen soon. I left my reefs at my ex's place, go there daily to test, feed and dose but still have major issues because I try to get out of the house as fast as I can. So the frag tank is a white cloud of precipitate and the SPS tank has an alk of 4.75. I did not hear from Dave/Barelycuda on a price. I am going to assume wednesday is the day to move the 55 and pnkrcklives gets the copperband, and if I can purchase a tank in the interim will get that here for the 120 contents. There will be frags galore for anyone who helps but they may need some nursing before you take them or if they fail will replace them. I can't continue with the current situation, my coral and fish will die. And in case you were wondering, yes I am stressed. Oh to make this extra fun it's the weekend of my little sisters' wedding and school starts real soon. No, I am not stressed. Not at all. Maybe I should move this thread to the emergency forum? (: Definitely not going to Macna...
  24. I think you are getting a copperband! He's an awesome fish, total spazz like a tang. Shakes his head at you when you are late with the food, which you'd think a fish could not do. I had him fat before.
