  1. What are you all using for a timer on your lights? I know people say the Coralife ones are junk so what is good? If you have a link to one that would even be better. Thanks!
  2. The tank may be young but all of the LR came from a cycled tank and most of the water to start came out of a running system to. Water has checked out good so am not to worried. When I first started it the LR had mushrooms and some zoas on them to start. Also came home today to find one of my clowns finaly figured out where the anemone was (clap) And last would like to thank Oldbrownies here in the site. All of my rock and alot of my critters came from him(rock2) Hopefully will be doing a bigger system here in the futer so stay tuned for another build:D
  3. Well here is an update on the tank. It has cycled very well and hardly have any real problems yet(whistle) Have set it up with some livestock that my son wanted. Have a cleaner shrimp and a few peppermint in there for the aptasia control. One rose anemone. As for fish he wanted a firefish so we picked one up and then got a couple of true percs (he wanted the black and white ones but right now they are not available at any local stores) and a six line. And last the corals (those are my favorite:D) have a few frags of zoas abot 6 I think, 1 small hammer frag, 1 sps frag, and a few things that I do not know what they are just looked cool at the LFS (laugh) Oh can not forget the big basll of Zenia that is pretty cool looking. Now that it is all together and looking pretty good am going to tear it all apart and put in a sumpDOH! I was not planning it but do not like the micro bubbles from the Remora. Here are a few pics sorry they are crappy but you get the point.
  4. Am in need of a sump for my sons 29. Only have a small space in the stand so need anything that is no deeper than 9 1/2" can be about 20 to 22 wide and about 15 tall. Please let me know if you have anything that would work. Thanks!
  5. Yes that little of sand in that big of tank would look funny. My 29 I just started for my son has 45lbs in it and it is almost 3 inchs thick in most places. Good luck and post some pics of your set up for us. And also welmoe to the site.
  6. Welcome to the sight! I am a newbie to but used to be into it years ago. And like you I started a small tank for my son now am looking for a tank for myself(laugh) Once you get bitten look out. And I have always been told the only dumb question is the one you do not ask.
  7. Nope there were all kinds of things attached to those rocks. But they were sweeet looking:D Makes me wish I had a bigger tank.
  8. Yeah talked to Austin today and he told me someone asked him about one. Just buy a new one they are available.
  9. Well here it is one 29 in my sons room. Started as a freshwater tank then decided to do SW since I am going to be the one taking care of it. Built the stand and top for the pendant to sit on. Am running a Remora C and a HOT filter for some flow. Still need to add a few power heads for some more flow. Light is a 175 MH with some pcs (great deal from Austin thanks!) works great might need to lower it a little but not sure. Not sure how much rock is in there but once again great deal on those to (thanks oldbrownies!) They have a few aptasia on them so am going hunting on sunday for them. Also some shrooms and one zoa polyp not sure what kind. Will keep you posted on the progress. Here is a pic with just the pcs on.
  10. I just sprayed mine with some rustoleum satin black. Taped a plastic bag over the top to keep overspray from going into the tank. Has worked so far.
  11. When I had my 55 going years ago I never Quar. anything. Everything just went in and never did lose anything that way.
  12. PMd you I might be able to help(whistle) I do fab work and own my own shop so if anyone wants any welding done or stands for bigger tanks let me know. I als odeal with powder coaters as well.
  13. Well am going to go with MH for sure. I just like the way they look. Just not sure on what light yet. Have a few ideas if I end up with a pendant and have found one 250 watt MH that is 30" wide. Just trying to decide(whistle) Thanks for the replys!
  14. Was in there today and can say they are nice. If my tank was readyDOH! I would have probably picked one up.
  15. Trying to find a good look and not sure if I like the pendant. Like I said I am picky(whistle) I did pick up some lights but decided they were to much for the tank. And am not sure if the MH will heat up the tank pretty quickly or not. Still looking at all my options.
  16. Ok would like a few people to chime in here on what they would do. The tank is going to be mainly used for soft corals and only a few fish might end up throwing in some hard corals but not sure. I like the look of the MH but the problem is finding an all in one that fits a 30" tank. Not sure if I want to build a lid I like the open look at the top. And last a pendant would work but do not really like them just hanging there plus need something to hang them from. I am kind of picky can you tell(laugh) So please let me know what kind of lighting you would run and if you know where to go let me know that also. Thanks!
  17. I figure if it is to much can always sell them or use them for a bigger tank(laugh) I got them for a decent price so figured I should just get them. Now just need to get a skimmer and get this thing going.
  18. Thanks for all the replys and info. The son is 7 and hopefully can teach him a few things with this. Mostly I wanted another SW set up so figured if I am going to take care of it might as well do it my way:) So after hearing this I figure I will ry it sumpless and get a good skimmer. I have a line on a Remora pro that is used so might have to get it. And am picking up some lights tom. night after work. Going with one MH and couple VHOs. And as for the money yeah I know it can be expensive but it is nice and relaxing just sitting and watching:D And will try and post pics as I go. Thanks again!
  19. Hello this is my first post here and am not really new to reef tanks but have not had one in about 6 yrs. And let me tell you yhings have changed from then. Ok question that I have I am putting a 29 gallon glass tank together for my sons room. He wanted something and figured since I would have to tale care of it go with the SW. Do I need a sump or will a good base of sand with a bunch of Lr and a good HOT skimmer do the trick? I know the sumps are good but do not really want to try and drill the glass. Any info helps also if you know what kind of lighting would work let me know . Thanks!
