  1. If its still available Steve I can swing by after work today, I work right up the street from you now
  2. On Pnother forum I frequent they do something similar, they call it a "karma giveaway" or something. Works great for new people to get gear and for others to do some cleaning out. And you get that warm fuzzy kind of karma : )
  3. Cool idea! I think I'll have to "share the love" with some of my corals also.
  4. I am planning on tiling in the area where the tank will be sitting, I'm wanting to use large tiles probably larger than 6"x6". Do you think this will distribute the weight evenly enough? PM coming
  5. The way that the stand is setup, it only has access from the sides and the back, so I'd like to keep wheels on it so I can move it if need be to get to the pumps and such. I can access just about everythign from the sides, and I don't anticipate moving it often but I'd like to keep them on just in case. On the plus side, the crawl space to get under the house is in the closet right next to where the tank will be, and its rather roomy underneath there so checking the bracing should be easy enough.
  6. Question for you guys: Do you think that I will need to reinforce the flooring underneath this tank? The tank itself with no water weighs in at 650 lbs. Tank volume is 110 gallons x 9lbs to the gallon = 990 lbs. Rock weighing in maybe another 100lbs? Total weight at least 1740 lbs. The thing that worries me is that this system is on 4 caster wheels, so the weight is distributed to those 4 points on the floor instead of evenly around the edge of a normal stand. The house is fairly new, built in 2001. What do you guys think?
  7. Happy birthday little dude : ) Sawyer says hi!
  8. Maybe we should get a list going of good items to put into the food and just have people start signing up to bring it? Like when they pass around the list for a potluck at the office.
  9. I'd be interested, I'll probably be needing to make more food or be buying more sacrificial bi-valves once I get the temperate/coldwater tank up anyways.
  10. I checked out Uwajimaya on wednesday and they had a lot of bi-valves, crab, and lobster. One neat thing I learned from them is that they will soon be carrying live Pacific Spot Prawns. Anyone ever see any live stuff other than clams, crab, or lobster? I'm trying to track down a supply of temperate critters (besides the coast) for when I get my new system going. Oh yeah, here's a pic of the spot prawns I found:
  11. Trying to find some places to pickup live seafood other than crab or clams. Anyone know any places that keep live octopus or shrimp or fish?
  12. I am leaning more and more towards non photosynthetic creatures. The room the tank will be in has large east facing windows with no outside obstructions so it would get lots of morning sun if I let it. I have been thinking of using some underwater LED lights like THIS and mounting them to the back inside corners near the overflow. I could spot light things inside the tank with them without having any thing resting on top of the tank. On a side note, one of my old friends from Eugene sent me some links to articles he did about temperate aquariums. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2009/5/short http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2009/3/aquarium http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2009/4/howto This is kind of the look I'm leaning more and more towards but with more critters
  13. Where can I find some black reef safe paint for painting white plastic that will be inside of the tank?
  14. Any recommendations on lighting for a coldwater setup? All going to be critters from tide pool areas off the oregon coast.....maybe washington if I get up there.
  15. Found THIS MANUAL for the system. 16. Well not much to post yet but a couple of pics I took, but I couldn't pass this one up, I think I've talked about buying one of these since I was 19. I bought a 110 gallon Marineland Commercial grade system, the guy is holding onto it for me until I get moved into my new place next month. He had it full of water and running when I got there, came out of an Alberstons. The chiller is totally functional, louder I think that I would want, but working. I think I've talked about buying one of these since I was 19. Anyways, any suggestions on where to start for a cold water marine system? Is there anyone in the area that knows someone who is using one of these systems currently? I would love to pick their brains and get some opinions. I will post more pics with a decent camera once I get it home. But for now, here is some from my phone.
  17. I got my HQI sockets out of some cheap fixtures from ACE hardware.
  18. "Aquatic Engineer" sounded better on my resume than "Fish Jockey" (laugh) It was a joke from when I worked at a Pet Store in Eugene, we used to try and come up with more important sounding titles for ourselves. Things like "Saltwater Waste Management Specialist" (when we cleaned the skimmers(laugh) )
  19. I got some for you, I'm in Beaverton. Shoot me a PM
  20. He's chilling in the corner still, but I think he showed my little 6 line whats up(laugh)
  21. Thanks for the hookup Eric, you should see my 6 line wrasse trying to claim his turf against a clown twice his size(laugh) ( my 6 line is maybe 2 1/2 inches)
  22. You gonna be up for a bit tonight? After Lost I could swing by, still gotta pick up some zoas from u
  23. What kind of price range would an acrylic tank of the same dimensions set me back?
