  1. [language filter], I thought I was a nerd... Joking Grassi! Great answers here. Use the law of averages to get a better understanding of your tanks PAR. He said, "mecurius vapor" LOL!
  2. I do not believe anyone questions the insanely awesome fabrication James at Envision Acrylics does here - the question posed has been answered by myself and a few others here. It's not a question of acrylic - it's a question of custom glass. Cost effectiveness was not in question, and opinions were not asked... perhaps a different thread or poll should be started to talk about opinions on glass vs. acrylic tanks.
  3. Kim- If you lower your lights down to about 1.5" off, you will double just about double your PAR with those t-5's... I am not suggesting you do so right away, but if you lower an inch a week, your corals will acclimatize to the higher light. Or, just leave it they way it is as it's working for you. (just thinking that your paying for the electricity & lamps, you may as well get the "full" benefit )
  4. Hey all- Yes, those custom glass euro braced tanks were form SeaStar in Canada. I was not aware they went under- no surprise with the economy they way it is, and sorry to hear as he made killer tanks :( I stumbled across this guy's page (from California), he looks like he knows what he's doing: http://www.fishtankfactory.com/page04.html I followed a few threads on his costs, delivery and quality and all sounded very good. Hope this helps-
  5. I would like to see a picture of this 100watter on a tank. Nice looking fixture too...
  6. Lowering price to $300.... ALL BRAND NEW - NEVER USED. I want it gone
  7. Love your tank! Beautiful mix of mature corals - very nice...
  8. ...Had one two weeks ago. Sold to it R3
  9. Good looking fish! Man, there are more FW people on here than I expected. Great posts/pics everyone!
  10. Isn't this 'ricordea yuma'?? I am confused... This is stunning. I could only imagine what it must look like under LED blues...(drooler)
  11. I like the height of that tank. It would be cool to see some stemmed plants grow from gravel to the surface. Is the water discolored because of the drift wood, or is that the light?
  12. That's a cool tank and I have thought about doing one as a FW planted tank too. What mh bulb are you using?
  13. Glad to hear it. Clam will be missed... How about posting a pic???
  14. It just may be! BTW, That's an amazing deal on the Marineland 110 you have posted. It's very tempting...(plotting)
  15. NH4 = Ammonia, yes. Same as Saltwater for maintaining at 0. LOL, POS... I like that! And, me either. The key is good light, correct water chemistry, a good substrate for the plants(ADA, Seachem) and CO2. It's like keeping a reef but less complicated and definitely more forgiving.
  16. Nicely done! Here's a 12"x12"x12" for inspiration:
  17. TRENT: What are the blue fish in the bottom picture? Those are striking and look relatively small too...
  18. Does this strike a nerve? I always hear the fish are not as "colorful" as saltwater fish, to which I agree for the most part. There are some exceptions, this is one of them:
  19. This a not a great pic of that plant, Nymhae micranthea. It's commonly called a "4 color lotus" and they are considered somewhat of a rarity in the FW plant community. It's one of my fav's too... I have 6-7 bulbs of these in my tank
  20. Blasphemy here on the reef community, I KNOW.... But you gotta admit, these are the next-best-thing to reef tanks, and they cost a LOT less to do/maintain. I love that I can just use tap water... SO, how about "Freshwater Reef Tanks"? Have a look for yourself: BTW, so sorry - now you've got an new itch to have a FW Planted tank.... Like you needed another hobby
  21. This is are older pics of my 16g bowfront: I have since transferred most of this set-up to a 30gal cube with a very similar config: 30gal cube with 96w power quad pc 50/50 lamp, magnum 350 pro w/ bio wheels returns + CO2 system (going to use on Ca reactor shortly)... NO CAMERA
  22. 12x12x12, Nice! Clear silicone, or black? I like the igwami in smalll cubes, like this: The dwarf Baby tears, xmas moss with stone work killer! Post a pic!
