  1. Yes, that was my shrimp post on CL. Let me know if you want any shrimp... Post some pics of wife's tank, I'd love to see it!
  2. OK, so who else here does/has freshwater tanks??? How about posting some pics along with description of set-up???
  3. Did not mean to hijack thread Doran. Nice Crypt and Val BTW..
  4. I also keep a FW planted tank, as this is what kept me "hands wet" until making my way back to the reef tanks. I keep Crystal black, Crystal red, and Crystal white shrimp - In fact, I breed them and supply a few LFS. I also have FW Stiphodon gobies that are algae eaters only. Tank shot Male goby Crystal red shrimp I NEVER thought I would like FW, but I enjoy it tremendously now
  5. Almost an hour, yes. This one will be missed greatly.
  6. That one is attached nicely to my LR and is going to stay put
  7. This is the largest of the 3 maxima's I have. I think it's a very fair price for the size/color. Someone's got to have room for it.
  8. Update: DANIK IS THE NEW OWNER I Need to make room, so this ones gotta go... Perfect condition/health... $150 (Pending Danik, then steelhead77), not looking for trades. The shell is 6" long across top (clam closed), clam mantle extended is about 7" across (clam open).
  9. The "new posts" tab gives an error /thanks for restoring
  10. When I used to set-up systems in homes/offices, in most cases I was not able to have an extra container for freshwater storage for evap top-off. I used a Liquid Level Controller (LLC) from Spectra Pure. This allows you to plumb your RO unit right under your tank/stand and turns on/off your RO which feeds directly into your sump. I personally dislike storing water as it takes up space, it's heavy, and it absorbs impurities from the air (especially RO/DI water as it's hungry to re-ionize). This LLC system is electronic and by default, it's shut off when there is no power. It works by a sensor (same vacuum sensor used in your laundry washing machine) installed in your sump at the desired water level. Once the water level drops below the sensor, it opens the valve installed in front of the RO unit allowing the water to feed through and refill sump. The down side of this system is that you'll have to plumb (2) 1/4" polypro lines, to and from your RO unit ((1) for supply, (1) for waste water). This is very easy to do, it just requires some planning/foresight. I used the 1/4" self piercing saddle values for HD/Lowes, and works on copper or soft pipe... I found this system to work flawlessly, and I installed probably around 2-3 dozen of them. It also has a mechanical float valve for safety, JIC. I find mechanical float values will fail - it's just a matter of time until they do... Like stick open... Which will flood your sump and cause it to overflow at the least opportune time (while you sleep or while you are on vacation) Or, stick closed and burn up your pump(s)/heater, etc. Here's the link and I hope this helps: http://www.spectrapure.com/St_alc_p1.htm
  11. Pretty disgusting clams they have... Wish I had the funds for a few.
  12. I am pretty sure they do have zooxanthellae- you might wanna double check this. Gonipora for sure. The red's do very well captively, as long as you have some nutrient(s) in your system.
  13. Gabe - One of my favorite stories here: I had a customer that had an infestation of aptasia and valonia with a sprinkling of hair algae. This person put their LR through the dishwasher (on hot) to kill off everything- which it did very well. The coraline algae came back with 6 weeks, and the tank looked great there after. To be perfectly clear, I DO NOT RECOMMEND this course of action on your LR.... Just sharing
  14. Again Trent, mimic were it's coming from. Also, the 2part is plenty sufficient for now, but keep a close eye on values previously discussed- you'll be fine!
  15. Your water values are perfect according to what you have posted. One of the best ways to place SPS, is to mimic where they are coming from. If you are acquiring SPS from under 400w halides, then your placement should be high up in the tank as to mimic this. One of the best SPS to start with are montipora sp. Your lighting is perfect for placement from low in the tank, to high up. I would look for M digitata, or M capricornis and place accordingly to mimic lighting frags/colonies are coming from. Make sure the coral receives good water flow as well, and monitor/maintain you Ca, Alk and Mg regularly, and Montipora will grow pretty quickly. BTW: 8-10 hours/day of Halide is plenty...
  16. Video for illustration purposes... as these are amazing little aquariums! (1) Brand New 24gal Aquapod with built-in filtration and return (1) Aquapod 150watt HQI 14k Halide stand-off canopy w/ LED moonlight (1) Oceanic Aquarium Stand Inclusive, asking $400 This is Brand New, never set up- just put stand together- still have the boxes ***I will also throw in some LR and sand to get things rolling on this Aquapod.
