I have a small hole drilled in my u-tube with airline going to the venturi on a small powerhead so that it can start itself after power failure etc. to start it manually i think you could use a airline, stick it in your u-tube and suck or blow water into the u-tube to fill it (something along those lines, never done it myself). I rarely mix my h20 for the recommended 24 hrs, usually just until I get the salt mixed in and temp close to tank temp, couple hours max. Have had no problems. good luck!

I use a glad disposable tupperware deal, fill it with rubble and place sliced up xenia in it, place it in a low flow spot in the tank and within a few days they are attached. With my tree coral i used a needle and thread, poked it through base of frag and tied it around the rock.

yep, many opinions, not much thats definite in the saltwater world. man i wish i hadn't added that caluarpa, pain in my butt (laugh) what do you do

I've done a freshwater dip on all of the fish in my tanks except for the gobies. I've read that its to much for the gobies, and they are disease resistant to start. Haven't lost a fish to it, the first few times I did it were short, in the minute range or so because the fish dont like it and I freaked out. The last fish i dipped was getting close to five minutes, probably not quite. Some fish are visibly affected and fall on their side gasping in a few minutes, which is when I get them out. Some fish seemed like they could last forever and arent visibly affected. I use DI/DO water adjusted to same PH as tank, and enough drops of methylene blue to turn the water blue. I've read that if you dont do anything else to your new fish, freshwater dip them. Better QT for four weeks and freshwater dip. Bob Fenners book The Conscientous (sp?) Marine Aquarist.

theyve got the spout(siphon) and a slit, ones intake ones outflow. 1/2 deal sounds normal. being able to see the insides is what is called gaping i think. when they are happy you can't see inside the slit. mine have been gaping from time to time when unhappy, but have been fine in long run. probably just getting used to new home.

I can't remember the link, but I bet if you searched you could find it. There was somebody who had bubble tip anemones and was doing some experiments. He would feed them everyday for a week or two, then he would do a large water change, and something like 80% of his anemones would split. Seemed reproducible. stress will definitaly bring on splitting.

stick it in a spot you like and start feeding it. I feed mine krill and they seem to stay in place unless I don't feed them enough.

Thanks Miles, sounds good. I'll be buggin you.

Nice, good looking rock. Where did you get the oyster shells, salt, and silica sand? One day I'm gonna have to come pick your brain. I need to make a pile of rock this winter.

I had some luck killing aptasia with a very thick kalk paste, toothpaste consistency. took a lump of it on my finger and smeared it on top of the buggers hole, actually ended up plugging the hole with paste and it took care of him. I'd try to kill them off before I sold it, but I'd tell the buyer.

Thanks Ben. Glad to hear everything is doing well!

I bet he will make it. I'd leave him in the display. My rose bta just emerged from hiding and is recovering well from a powerhead incident. He spent probably close to two months back behind my rockwork healing before he ventured out again, he was ripped in half and had no tentacles to speak of. They seem to move when hungry, well fed they tend to stay put. good luck!

I used three 24 inch vho's on a 20L and could keep pretty much anything in any part of the tank. Had acros sitting in the sand all the way to the edges and had no problems, except overfilling!
