  1. I didn't know the cali tort and the ORA tort were the same, but I got both from Ryan at advanced a while ago. He has a nice colony of cali tort that he fragged for me, and I got a sweet ORA tort that is multiple branching. Nice frags at Advanced.

    HELP WITH SPS PROBLEM

Thanks guys. Fingers still crossed, no new damage so far, hoping to get lucky. Any ideas on how long those guys might stay dormant before emerging and feasting?

    HELP WITH SPS PROBLEM

To my knowledge no monti munchers in either of my tanks prior to my portland trip, have many montis and have never had evidence of the nudis, wouldn't sell/trade anything I suspected to have nasties. However, traded some corals in Portland at the Saltwater Fantaseas, and ive got em now. Anythings possible, could have had them before but if so they weren't doing anything destructive. A maricultured encrusting montipora showed evidence of something going on, removed it from my tank and dipped it, lots of the buggers floated away. Further inspection revealed a bazillion eggs on the rock the coral was mounted to. Threw most of it away and am waiting with bated breath to see if by some miracle they are gone. Haven't seen any since, no damage to any other montis in the tank, fingers crossed. Don't have to many montis in my frag tank, most are in show tank. Definately no nudis in show tank. Hope it wasn't me, don't think it was, but can't be sure. Frag tank on lockdown. Good luck with eradication!!
  4. I use it immediately, as soon as I can warm it up. Have only let it go 24 hrs once or twice.

    Overflows

I have basically the CPR overflow, same style, different brand and have been happy with it. aquatraders.com has some cheap cpr knockoffs, not sure how good they are but I'd try one for the price. I have a hole in the top of mine like the CPR's, which is attached with airline tube to a powerhead. It starts on its own after power shutoff etc.. If you empty it totally you still have to do some mouth sucking action to get it going. The only thing I don't like about is the difficulty to clean it. Have to take off tank, attempt to jam stuff in there, hard to clean. That said I have never had to clean it, just wish I could occasionally without the dismantling. It's been running for 2.5 years or so with no big problems. I use the u-tube overlow on my second tank, easy to clean just pop of tube yada yada. Have a hole in u-tube attached to powerhead venturi in same fashion. Not sure what I'd do if I started over, drill holes probably. But i would like to try one of those aquatraders knock offs to. Happy reefing!
  6. Watergarden.com is good, shows all steps, wetwebmedia.com is good too lots of info. Basic constuction is fairly simple. from there we looked at lots of pictures of different stream/pond combinations, decided what we liked and didn't like and went to work. hope this helps.
  7. I helped build a nice creek/pond recently. We used the rubber liner and it worked excellent. There are two main types of liner, a cheaper 10 or 15 year (can't remember exactly) and a heavier more expensive twenty year. I'd use the cheap one. Not sure if it would be more or less than a large rubbermaid, I'd guess it would be less depending on size of pond. You can line the hole with newspaper or old carpet scraps if the ground is rocky and your worried about punctures. We didn't use anything, dirt was clean and mostly rock free. Put in tarp, fill with rocks to desired effect. No tarp showing through, plumbing hidden by rocks, looks good. Fairly simple and fun. With the tarp you have more freedom with the pond shape, you can dig in ledges to put rocks on around the edges, make a deep portion if you want fish, add a plant bog along a side for natural filtration, etc. etc. Possiblities endless. We found all of our info on the web. Have fun!!

  14. Have frags for all so far. Just so all know the false superman frags are small, around 1/2 inch, tough to break off, let me know if that changes anyones mind. the green acro with pink/tan corallites is the other possible small one. everything else should be at least an inch, most bigger, some will be 2 inches and branching. Lots of the frags are mounted and have been growing for a while, a few will be fresh breaks. Let me know if thats a problem! Thanks again for the interest! Will post tonite with firm sat. time and meet place, sounds like saltwater fantaseas is close to the airport. looking forward! thanks again. PM me if I've missed something. Josh
  15. All sounds good. I will be in Portland on Saturday to pick up Mom at the airport @11:30 and can be somewhere from 10 to 11:10 (taboo to meet at upscales?). Will confirm time and meeting place tomorrow. If thats a bad time for people it sounds like Scott and I should be able to get together friday and he'll bring em up, thanks Scott!. Have multiple frags of all corals pictured, at least 2 of each and probably 3-5 of most. Some won't be mounted. I will do a count tomorrow and post some actual numbers. I'll say first come first serve, whoever posts first gets it and on down till gone. Thanks for the interest! Mom thanks you to! She'll be saving some rental car money and have two quality hours with her favorite son. (laugh)
