  1. yep, should be fine. garf.org has some good info on mushroom fragging. when I do it I slice of the cap and pie it up. every piece should grow a new one!
  2. I'm stoked. Sounds like a sweet opportunity to look at and buy some unique corals and pick a few brains. Hopefully there is solid turnout so it happens again. I hope they take visa. Happy Reefin!!
  3. Sounds Beautiful!! I'll be saving my pennies. or foregoing 4-6 lattes between now and then. Make that 12 lattes, forgot my gas money. I CAN DO IT!!!! peace
  4. I do the turkey baster blast to blow out the few dead spots in my sump. i try to do it every few weeks and at least get the stuff into my tank where the cleaners can eat it. Good luck!

  6. I'm in eugene, I have a nice pink stylo. not sure when I'll be up your way.
  7. 13 ish hours all lights, 4x110W VHO's on a 55gal. refugium lite 24hrs. 3+ inches of sugar fine mixed with whatever I couldn't pull out when I switched from the coral rubble to thesugar fine. anthony calfo did a DSB study in his book of coral propagation that sounded good to me.

My pics are craptastic however so don't hold your breath. pink stylophora-multiple frags $5 to $15 blue staghorn acro-$10 green pocillopora-$15 montipora capricornis-red $10 " -purple w/ blue polyps $10 montipora digitata-red $10 " -pinkish w/ brown polyps $5 up " -ORA german blue polyp $10 pink birdsnest-$10 green birdsnest-$5 to $15 and a few others. You can see the parent colonies in my tanks. I'm in Eugene, River Rd. area. Buy a few get a deal, free xenia frag? Gotta make some room. Thanks. Josh
  12. definately evil stuff. I believe they say the main diet of the LN is caulerpa. another nudi in the same genus, Elyssia ornata, is supposed to mainly eat bryopsis. I think this is why the say the LN, Elyssia crispata wil eat the stuff to. I've had a few LN's die in my tank and nothing bad happened.
  13. Sweet setup. I like the window to the refugium (?) in the bottom. Looks good!
  14. I've had some headaches with this stuff, man, don't let it spread, kill it while you have a chance. I'd try the superglue smother. A kalkwasser paste will also kill it off. I've had luck with the kalkwasser paste, haven't tried the superglue smother but I think its probably the best. Chunks of kalkwasser paste floating around kind of stinks, burns corals if it sits on them. Nothing else I've tried works. Boiling water hurts it for awhile but it charges back. Lettuce leaf nudibranchs don't phase it (IME), and neither due sea hares. I was inches from getting a foxface but a little scared of them. Then my bryopis dissappeared! It was one of two things, a phosphate remover I put in (phos-x I think, not sure), or putting a chunk of it in my sump. I think it was the phosphate remover, I believe it was supposed to absorb silicates and other stuff as well. There are still tiny bits of bryopsis but nothing compared to the ever growing patch I pulled out weekly and still lost ground to. Good Luck!!
  15. Sorry to hear about your troubles, wish I had some helpful info. Hopefully some of the zoo's make it, I'll cross my fingers too.
  16. I use the coralife auto shut off (17.59 at drfostersmith) and had the same problem. This unit is after the filtration. I had neglected to replace my existing 90 degree elbow fitting on the outlet of my unit with the check valve sent with my filter. The parts looked identical so I didn't switch it. My fitting wasn't a check valve so it didn't work. Water should get shut off at the check valve, not right at the float.
  17. Holy cow, thanks Ronjunior. I've got some homework to do. Appreciate the info. josh
  18. Hey, Tuesday's good, same time? Your daughters welcome. thanks! josh
  19. thanks again susanne. I use the seachem supplements. Buffer(ph to 8.3), reef builder (alkalinity), and calcium. I dont have a strict regimen, but should. I'm probably closest to the garf methedology, minus the kalkwasser. I try to use kalkwasser for my makeup but go in spurts. religously for a few weeks, then not for a few. I don't test much anymore but can tell when stuff isn't growing or what not that I need to add more of this or that. Lately i've just been working on keeping my calcium at 400+ and haven't worried much about alkalinity. Coralline algae seems to thrive in my tank at 8 dkh and up. Below that and starts to die off. Naturally It seems to stay at about 4dkh and some coralline will grow but not all colors. The stony corals like the high calcium levels. I just put carbon in the tank after no carbon for about a year, not sure why i did it, mostly to see if I could notice any changes in stuff. still up in the air there. yes, me too on the VHO's, two pure white and two pure blue, 48" 110watt uri bulbs. Most all frags were started small. I can definitaly tell when I'm lagging on calcium, stuff slows growing noticeably. Probably started adding sps's after tank was two to three months old and knock on wood have only lost a couple corals, all due to me messing up something. I'm not much of a feeder, will sometimes go a few days without feeding. Can definitaly tell when i feed to much by hair algae cropping up. Im a fan of the deep sand bed and do nothing to maintain it myself, no stirring or what not. When my tank was going through the hair algae stage at the beginning I added a tigertail cucumber, and I think he does amazing sand sifting detritus eating work. Ill work on some pictures. I think one of my photo probs is shrinking it to get it on the site. Any suggestions? Picture starts at 1 MB plus, have to shrink it down a bunch, and then don't know how to make it large on the site. happy reefin! josh
  20. Thanks Susanne. I'm looking for the blushing icon but can't find it. hope stuff does well in your tank! josh

  24. someone looking for help and getting lectured, nice. Wonder if they will ever be back? I think we all make mistakes, its inherent to the hobby. Trying to help someone and being critical about thier methods aren't the same thing. Step off the high horse. All questions are good questions, right? peace
