  1. Nyles, I love your whole setup, it is really well planned and looks great. What are your tank dimensions?
  2. Right now I'm leaning towards the 22" height because it seems like a good compromise. I haven't had a tank taller than 20" so I can see reaching how to the bottom of a 24" tank would be a pain but it would be nice to have the extra volume.
  3. As far as the tanks dimensions, the numbers thing doesn't really matter to me. I really only care about it looking good and is being functional. The tank will be SPS dominated with few LPS. Ideally, i will get a few select corals and let them grow out into colonies. I'm thinking about going BB for water quality but def prefer the look of a sand bed. I will prlly end up with a SSB so I can keep my leapord wrasse.
  4. Hey everyone! I'm in the process of planning for a tank upgrade and would really appreciate some input on my next tank. I currently have an oceanic 30gal cube and am planning on setting up a 30x30x_ rimless cube build by Joel. I recently graduated from WSU and started my first real job so I will finally be able to actually afford an upgrade(clap). As of last month I live and work in the Seattle area but I guess I still consider PNWMAS my home. My first decision is on the height of the tank. I can't decide to go with 20", 22", or 24". I'm planning on lighting in with a single 400w 20K halide in a Lumanarc pendant so light penetration shouldn't be an issue. Here are some sketches of the configurations. So help me out and let me know what you think and why 30x30x24 (Actual volume 82 gal) 30x30x22 (Actual volume 75 gal) 30x30x20 (Actual volume 67 gal)
  5. Yea I am thinking about running Radiums on a tank i'm planning and have been debating between the 250 and 400 watters. Only reason I knew is I've been doing some research on the two recently. That's a great idea with the coralvue ballest, I'll have to look into that
  6. That only applies to 400w Radiums since they are actually designed to run on European spec ballast that are only 360w. The 250w versions are true HQI bulbs so they should last just as long as any other bulb
  7. Would you be willing to sell the ballast seperately?
  8. I've never heard of anyone keeping a jawfish in a BB tank. How is he doing so far?
  9. Are you planning on getting your fish before the move or after? Not sure if you are aware but Pets Are People Too and Palouse Pets in Moscow both sell saltwater and will also special order fish for you. There may be more but too but I've been to Aquatic Dreams and Aquarium Solutions in Spokane. Can't remember the name but there is also a shop in Lewiston
  10. If you got a small Kole or Tomini I don't think it would absolutely outgrow your tank in the next two years. They only get 6-7in fully grow. One thing you may want to consider in your fish choices is to get fish that will eat flake or pellets so you can use an autofeeder over breaks.
  11. Thats a good looking anemome and its probably a good choice to sell it before moving. I just graduated from WSU myself. Are you going to be a freshman? Where are you living?
  12. I saw the skimmer when i was in the shop today and that thing is a beast! The build quality seemed to be great as well. I also noticed the the glass in the entry way, looked liked 36x36x24 maybe? Should be an awesome tank
  13. I don't know if anyone sells these locally or what there prices are but I think going with the 150W is a good choice. Buld choices at 70w are extremely limited and most are pretty expensive. If its too bright or hot you can always use a hanging kit and raise the fixture up.
  14. There may be others, but I know Upscales sells a couple different kinds
  15. Stone Brewing of San Diego makes. I'm not a big fan of it but Stone def has some interesting beer.
  16. You should go for the leopard. I've got a meleagris leopard wrasse in with my flasher and they get along great. They are both really passive fish.
  17. Nice Flasher! Is that a Filament Flasher? I've got one that look a lot like it. They are great fish but I don't think they do much for pest control. Mine never picks at the rock or coral.
  18. Have you tried calling any of the LFS?
  19. Ha ha. I'll take you word on the DTs, hopefully I will never have to experiance that. But a least the DTs is a little cheaper.
  20. Thanks for the input guys, thats what I had always heard. The bottle has a best use by date of May 9th but its got a pretty unpleasant odor. The only think i can think of is it may have gone bad. Today i watched my wrasse take a few pieces but then actually spit them out. Kinda sucks.
  21. This is a great deal. Urchins sell for like 160 new with a maxijet
  22. Did your bottle smell at all fishy? Mine has a pretty strong oder.
