@Bicyclebill If you want to bring me a tissue sample, I can look at it under my microscope to see if there's any ciliates like those associated with brown jelly syndrome.  Here's a video of those ciliates under my microscope from when my tank suffered from BJS.  All of those brown spheres inside their bodies are the zoothanthellae they stole from the corals.

Were you able to successfully treat BJS?

  2. Made more progress over last 2 weeks after graduating from University of YouTube and got some tips from FB groups. Sink is fully functional and plumbing leak tested. Ran out of dry wall mud to finish patching up the wall. Next steps: paint, water seal, replace carpet with hardwood, then I can move the sump in and connect to my fish tank.

Are you planning any Counter Top space around the sink to set things, while you're washing/etc?    In my frag room, I didn't add any counter space and find I'm constantly bringing in a stool to set things on while working in the tanks.   I've now got a pair of Flip Up Shelf brackets, in stainless, to install for a "counter-on-demand."   Space is a premium in my equipment room.

I love that idea.  Thanks for the tip.

  4. Worked on sink drain plumbing. Waiting for amazon to deliver washing machine outlet box to finish the drain system then connect to sewer line. Plan is to place the skimmer waste line into the washing machine outlet box drain. Then use a solenoid to "flush out" the drain line daily or just use RO waste water to flush out the drain line.

Why do our local PNWMAS people run them?  For clear water, nutrient export?  I find keeping the nutrients up without a sock difficult, so just curious.

I'm planning to add them to my new system.  After tearing down my old system with just skimmer in the sump, there was so much detritus sentiment (not so miracle mud) in the sump.  With sump being so low on the ground, it so difficult to siphon out and wet vac fills up too fast to be useful.

Did you catch this post?  I think that's a compatible driver zooming in on your other pics of drivers...

Yup, thank you. I've ordered it and will see when it gets here

Just saw this post... From your pic, your AC power adapter is constant current so it varies it's output voltage to provide constant 1.27A.  The link from Amazon is a constant voltage power adapter, so it have a constant DC output voltage of 48V but various the current up to 1.25A.  So unless your LED just happened to need 48V at 1.27A, it will not work.

Either find/buy a constant current power adaptor with the specs required, or you can MacGyver it with the 48V constant voltage power adaptor from Amazon then add/design a DC to DV constant current converter.

Please be careful taking apart AC power adapters.  Even DC at 48V can be dangerous.

I agree with previous comment that it's probably not worth fixing.

  7. I'm thinking of selling my custom 235gal (72"x30"x24"H) rimless 3 sided starfire glass tank.  I paid $3800 new and was built by Mike from Oceans by Design.  Asking for $1800 for tank and wooden stand.  I have custom CNC polycarbonate top (cost $400) that I will include as well.

    Tank specs:

    • 235gal (72"x30"x24"H)
    • Rimless 3/4" (19mm) thick glass
    • Euro braced bottom
    • 3 sided Starfire clear glass
    • Black back and black silicon
    • Center overflow with 2 1.5" drain and 2 1" return
    • ~500lbs

I will empty and clean it.

Here's an old pic before tear down:

  8. I've been netting out stars for my harlequin shrimps when I first got them almost a year ago. Now that they're bigger, so much easier when they're in the display tank. Glad my fishes do not bother them.

My guess would be Scott @spectra He has done really fine metal work on heavy duty stands for many of the reefers on here.

Yes, Scott did a great job on the stand.

  10. Filled with 400gal, raised the skimmer, moved more rocks from old tank... until I get a sump, daily top off 3-4gals is becoming a chore, so I got 2 polycarbonate sheets to cover the top.  Put 3 ReeFi Uno prototypes as temporary lighting.

I also transfered my 2 harlequin shrimps from frag tank.  I wasn't sure how my 3" yellow Corie wrasse would react to them.  Only my Regal angel showed some interest for first 2 mins.
