  1. I recommend 2 ReeFi Unos for your tank dimensions.  You can probably get away with 1 ReeFi Uno but since your tank is much longer than wide, a lot of light will spill out the front and back if 1 Uno is mounted high enough to cover the length of the tank.

Awesome build, looks great.  Are you going to run a custom program on your lights or one of your pre programmed ones?

I'm running custom for all but the 2 center ones.  I use polycarbonate sheet to cover the top of my tank to prevent evaporation to the tank room.  Unfortunately, I just discovered that polycarbonate blocks at least 2/3 or more of the UV light, so I crank up the UV for all but the 2 center Unos which are over glass center brace.

  3. Here are some updates....

Finally finished plumbing to the sump and filled up the tank 2 weeks ago:

Added auto filter floss.  It's kinda rewarding seeing the dirty part rolled up.  I wonder what the fabric is made of.  Hope it's not polyester... I would hate to be generating more plastic waste.20210409_102508.JPG

After a day or so, fishes go used to higher water level and come to the surface to beg for food as usual:

Finished printing some light rack mounting parts.  I used 2040 aluminum but they don't ship in 10ft lengths, so I ended have to use extenders to secure 2 pieces of 5ft length.

I ended up putting 10 ReeFi Unos over 10ft x 42in x 36in H tank.  Light coverage seems pretty even, but I might add a few more later on just cause I have a bunch of Unos. haha

  4. Added a few new hammers, still recovering from my dips:

    RBTA getting some morning sun:

    Some new torch additions:

FTS sporting 5 ReeFi Unos, probably will end up with 10 or 12 Unos.  Maybe I'll go all out and put 15 or 18 Unos assuming my circuit breaker can handle them.20210404_164024.jpg

I repeated the treatment 3 times, 2-3 days apart. I havent experimented further with this dosing schedule... perhaps additional doses over a longer period would be useful, I can't say.

In principle any use of antibiotics introduces a risk of selecting for antibiotic resistance. It seems this risk is greatest with chronic exposure, or the prophylactic use of antibiotics. I consider treating a lethal (to the corals) infection to be a situation where the risk is justified, but I guess I'd hesitate to ever say there is no risk of this happening. All I can do is minimize it. I certainly would not recommend using any in-tank antibiotics in a preventative way, for that reason.

Thank you for the tip.  One of my wall hammer didn't expand for a week and possibly early sign of BJD.  Dosed cipro and on fifth day started to expand again!

  6. I think there should be 70 fishes. A few new additions didn't make it. Filled the pipes with water to test for leaks. One of the pipe might be leaking... Will need to go back in the crawlspace to see what's going on.

  7. Everyone that had ordered ReeFi Uno should have gotten their Uno or got tracking info by now.

If you're been curious about ReeFi Uno and like to see it in action, Sea Horse Aquarium in North Portland and All Things Aquariums in Wilsonville, and they have a few ReeFi Uno and ReeFi Tank Mount Kits available as well.

For those up north near Seattle, check out Barrier Reef and Seattle Corals.

Ciprofloxacin at 0.125 mg per L.

I find a specific Arcobacter sp. in every specimen of BJD I can get my hands on. This antibiotic knocks it out, and has in my hands been safe for in-tank treatments.

I've treated two tanks with it, saved half a dozen colonies of Euphyllia.

There are certainly ciliates visible in the samples of BJD but I consider them secondary. In my opinion they are eating the coral tissue that's already dying from the bacterial infection.

What's the in tank Ciprofloxacin dosing regiment?  0.125mg/L once per how many days, and how many times?  Is there a concern for creating drug resistant BJD?

I have not experimented with others.

Do you still need to cut off the diseased area?  Will antibiotics stop the spread?

I recently got some wall hammers.  One of the hammer have one spot that would not open.  After a week, that area have started to die back and I can see the skeleton.  Seems like the infected area is spreading.  I ended up cutting off that section yesterday.  I didn't have any iodine at the time so I ended up using vodka and squirted at the area I just cut.  So far it's looking good.  Would be nice to dose some antibiotics and not have to cut off the infected area cause it's hard to reach down 36"H tank.

  10. 7+hrs later, pretty much done.. Will be ready for leak test tmr. I wanted to be able to drain the pipes in case I need to service them. I'll need to put a pump so it'll drain the pipes into the laundry outlet.

  11. Walls painted and water sealed.  Replaced carpet with hardwood.  I made the mistake of starting the hardwood at the far end.  Initially, I thought with the crawlspace lid hatch, I should start at the other end.  This made the last board ripping very difficult since I can't hide any excess under the base board.
